Meet the 615 Preps All-Area small class boys basketball teams

We’re putting a bow on the boys’ basketball season with the first-ever 615 Preps all-area boys basketball teams.

We released the large class teams earlier. Now it’s time to look at the small class teams. The 615 Preps small class coverage area includes teams in Division II-A as well as Classes 2A and 1A.

Including the player of the year and coach of the year selections, here are this year’s first, second, and third team 615 Preps all-area boys small class teams.

Player of the Year

Kavien Jones, BGA, Sr.

The DII-A Mr Basketball winner and Tennessee State signee, Jones averaged close to a double-double at 21 points and nine rebounds to go along with 2.5 blocks.

Coach of the Year

Jeremiah Crutcher, Whites Creek

Whites Creek’s run back to the Class 2A state tournament is a run that no one associated with the program will be forgetting anytime soon.

With one of the youngest teams in 2A, Crutcher led the Cobras to 26 wins including their first state tournament win since 2017.

First Team

Point Guard

Trae Rideau, Clarksville Academy, Jr.

Why chosen: Rideau established himself as a name to watch going forward averaging 21 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.6 steals.

Shooting Guard

Blake Dean, Ezell-Harding, Sr.

Why chosen: Dean once again finished as an all-district selection averaging a team-high 21 points. He finished his career with 1,400 career point.

Small Forward

Jayden Jones, Goodpasture, Jr.

Why chosen: Jones came up short of winning DII-A Mr. Basketball and a return trip back to Cookeville, but he still had a season to remember. Shooting 60% from the floor, he led the Cougars averaging 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Power Forward

Judson Bjornstad, PCA, Sr.

Why chosen: In his lone season at PCA, Bjornstad was a phenom nearly leading the Lions to their first state title. He averaged 16.1 points and 6.9 rebounds on the year.

Center

Avery Coles, White House Heritage, So.

Why chosen: A 6-foot-10 center, Coles improved upon a standout freshman season by averaging a double-double at 17.2 points & 10.2 rebounds while shooting 65% from the field.

Sixth Man

Colton Copas, Red Boiling Springs, Sr.

Why chosen: Copas was named the District 6-1A MVP after averaging 23 points and 11 rebounds per game.

Second Team

PG: Colby Jones, Friendship Christian, Sr.

SG: Cam Phillips, Clarksville Academy, Sr.

SF: Demarion Locke, Cannon County, Sr.

PF: Cooper Abner, Westmoreland, Sr.

C: Preston Wade, Providence Christian, Jr.

6th: Malachi Benton, Whites Creek, So.

Third Team

PG: A.J. Petway, LEAD Academy, Jr.

SG: Arnett Hayes, BGA, Jr.

SF: Camden Cole, Eagleville, So.

PF: Ford DeShazo, Grace Christian, So.

C: PJ Nyapal, East Nashville, Sr.

6th: J Foster, Gordonsville, So.
