CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- Walker Valley exacted a measure of revenge against Clinton on a breezy day at Larry Haney Field as the Lady Mustangs got back at the Lady Dragons for last year's loss with a 4-0 win Monday.

With a strong win blowing in from center field at Larry Haney Field Walker Valley's Ryann Presswood was in control out of the circle for the Lady Mustangs (11-1). Presswood locked into a pitcher's duel with Clinton's Bree Mckamey for four innings before Walker Valley broke loose in the bottom of the fifth inning.

“I was really proud of our team. I thought we fought the entire game, played some great defense, got some timely hits and “Boogs” pitched another great ballgame,” said Lady Mustangs head coach Lauren Limburg.

The Walker Valley junior righty went the distance against the McKamey and Lady Dragons (2-4) as both hurlers fanned five batters apiece while giving up a pair of walks each. Presswood and McKamey each faced 24 batters on the afternoon.

Walker Valley broke the 0-0 deadlock in the fifth when Madison Thomas led off with a bunt single. Brylie Davis followed with a walk. Autumn Lanclos laid down a second bunt and raced to second on a throwing error that scored Thomas and left runners on second and third. Two outs later, Amy Benson singled to shallow right field scoring Davis and Lanclos giving the Lady Mustangs a 3-0 lead.

It took just a single swing of the bat for Woodall in the bottom of the sixth as the senior centerfielder took advantage of the hushed breeze crushin a towering blast over the right-center field to cap the scoring.

Presswood and the Lady Mustangs sat the Lady Dragons down in order in the top of the seventh to put alid on the 4-0 victory.

“This group is real special. They play together, they play for each other and they really love each other. They are fun to watch, they truly enjoy each other's company and they love playing together. I'm just proud to be a part of it,” said Limburg.

“we need to continue to work. There are little things. I wish we had adjusted a little sooner to their pitching, but we're doing some really good things out there and I'm just proud of them. But, we just need to continue work and continue to get better every day. Every day is an opportunity to get better.”

Weather permitting, the Lady Mustangs step back into district softball Tuesday with a trip to Athens to meet the Lady Cherokees.

“Tomorrow is a district game, it's a big game,” Limburg said. “We want to set ourselves up well for postseason play. So, we just need to come out and do our thing. Hopefully, we will, but, we'll see.”
