MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Cara Wilson took command, and David Crockett's softball team took a victory to begin the second day of their spring break tournament.
Wilson pitched five innings, striking out six while allowing three hits and leading Crockett to a 10-0 win over Elmwood, Ohio, Tuesday.
And at the plate, Wilson batted 2-for-3 with a double.
Chelsea Williams (triple), Madelyn Dulaney (2 runs) and Julie Maupin all had two hits for the Lady Pioneers.
De Pere (Wis.) 8, David Crockett 3
Madelyn Dulaney hit 3-for-4 and finished just a triple shy of the cycle, batting in three runs with a solo blast in the fifth inning. But it wasn’t enough for the Lady Pioneers, who got doubles from Julie Maupin (2-for-4) and Laney Britton.
Olivia Baugnet homered for De Pere, while Addison Krutz tripled and Julianne Bradford hit two doubles.
Elizabethton 6, Beaufort (S.C.) 0
BEAUFORT, S.C. — Lela Byrd struck out 17 batters while pitching a one-hit shutout for the Lady Cyclones, helping her cause by hitting 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Mollie Johnson went 2-for-3 and scored twice.
BASEBALL
Daniel Boone 8, Tinley Park (Ill.) 1
GULF SHORES, Ala. — Jackson Utsman jumpstarted Daniel Boone’s six-run third inning with a leadoff double, and he finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Tim McGonigle and Slader Tinker both had two hits for the Trailblazers, with Graham Jones and Tinker batting in two runs each.
Jaiden Henry went the distance on the mound, striking out seven in the two-hit win.
Dobyns-Bennett 16, Philip Simmons (S.C.) 2
CHARLESTON, S.C. — Mason Barnett got the win on the mound and capped D-B’s fourth-inning eruption with a three-run homer.
Barnett pitched the full four innings, striking out two and allowing four hits. But neither of the earned runs came before D-B had built a 16-0 lead.
Maddox Martin (2-for-2), Baker Correll and Will Ritz all doubled, with Jackson Bishop and Jaylen Thomas driving in two runs apiece.

MOUTH OF WILSON, Va. — Ian Meade’s hat trick led the Knights to their first win of the season. J.J. Poff added two goals, and Cage Merkel scored one of his own.
Meade, Merkel, Cole Radawi and Chris Carroll each assisted one goal.
