Last week saw four games of action for Lincoln County baseball. It began on Monday, March 18 with a tight 4-3 walk off victory at home over the Tullahoma Wildcats.
Tullahoma returned a bulk of their 2023 roster as opposed to Lincoln County who graduated six starters.
The Falcons got right to work in the bottom of the first inning when Bryce “Biscuit” Persell launched a leadoff homerun to right field.
After that, it was a pitcher’s duel back and forth between reigning district MVP and Pitcher of the Year Evan Tomlin and Lincoln County’s sophomore Mick Smith. T
he Falcons added an insurance run in the sixth inning off an RBI single from Brett Dobbs to make it, 2-0.
Smith managed to carry a shutout two outs into the seventh inning but had to be subbed out. Tullahoma took advantage and teed off on senior Maddox Meeks to lead 3-2 and force a bottom of the seventh.
The ending was quite fitting for Lincoln County. Smith got an RBI base hit to left field for the tie, and Meeks the RBI single to right center for walk off win.
After beating Hazel Green the next night and suffering losses to Bradley Central and Cleveland, Lincoln County enters this week with an even 5-5 record.
