Columbia Central girls basketball coach Megan Moore has resigned after three years with the program to spend more time with her two children.

“My kids love it. They bleed purple and yellow and gold and they love (the) Lady Lions," Moore said. "So they were on board for me staying; they love the games; they love the travel. They love the lifestyle, but I just know to be able to give them more of mom is what they need right now.”

Moore said she will maintain her roles as assistant athletic director and physical education teacher at Columbia Central. She will also be a part of the interview committee for the next Columbia Central girls basketball coach.

Moore took over at Columbia ahead of the 2021-22 season and led the Lady Lions to the TSSAA region tournament every season she was at the helm, improving in record each season. Columbia Central finished this past season 23-9, losing to Nolensville in the Region 5-4A quarterfinals.

Columbia head coach Megan Moore talks with her team during a timeout in the second quarter during their District 12-4A tournament semifinal game against Independence Friday, Feb. 17, 2023 at Nolensville High School in Nolensville, Tennessee.

In her three years as coach, Moore spearheaded a reshaping of the program and believes it has a bright future ahead with the culture that has been implemented.

“Coming in it was a shift, as far as expectations, as far as work ethic, as far as team bonding even and coming together. And culture was definitely the biggest part,” Moore said. “Then there was also the fundamental aspects, but to all of (the players’) credit, it was something that they were wanting and ready for.

“So just being able to come in and have a vision of what I know a program should look like and them being absolutely receptive to it and wanting to implement that same vision but having a specific direction and plan. It's kudos to them to be able to be where we're at.”
