Monday Round-up: Cloudland, Elizabethton And Unaka Softball Pick Up Wins

Softball
Cloudland 3, North Greene 1
The Lady ‘Landers picked up a big district win on Monday afternoon.

Cloudland took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Sahara McKinney scored, but NG was able to even things up in the home side of the frame.

Cloudland regained the lead in the top of the fourth as Layken Blair hit a single to push J Harper across the plate. After Savannah McCoury scored off an NG error in the top of the seventh, the Lady Huskies were able to get the tying run on base, but Cloudland was able to hold on for the win.

McCoury was 2-for-3 at the plate, while Bethany Sluder, Reagan Turbyfill, and Blair each had a hit.

In the circle, Turbyfill struck out five batters and allowed one earned run on two hits.

Elizabethton 10, Happy Valley 0
The Lady Cyclones picked up a 10-0 county win on Monday during the Folds of Honor game.

EHS jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Molie Johnson and Lela Byrd crossed home plate. The Lady Cyclones added two more in the bottom of the second as a Johnson single drove Lilly McDuffie and Gracie Whaley across the plate.

EHS took full control in the bottom of the third with five runs.
Johnson went 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI, while Byrd and McDuffie each had two hits and two RBI. Jozey Reece added two hits for the EHS cause.

In the circle, Johnson struck out eight batters and didn’t allow a hit in five innings of work.

Trinity Bowers struck out two batters for HV, while Makayla Miller reached base.

Unaka 18, West Greene 4
The Lady Rangers jumped out early and never looked back on Monday.
Unaka plated seven runs to open the game and never looked back for the road win.

Taylor Grindstaff went 4-for-4 with two RBI, while Mollie Buckles had three hits and four RBI. Haley Taylor finished with three hits and an RBI, while Gracie Stout added three RBI and two hits.

Alisha Harrell, Jill Faust, and Katlyn Dugger each had two hits.

In the circle, Stout picked up the win as she allowed just two earned runs on eight hits in five innings of work.

South Greene 10, Hampton 0
The Lady Bulldogs were unable to keep pace with South Greene on Monday.

SG jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and methodically pulled away for the win.

Lacie Smith and Maleah Scalf each reached base, while Briley Davis struck out three batters and allowed just five earned runs on six hits.

Baseball
Sullivan East 10, Elizabethton 3
The Cyclones were unable to complete a rally on the road Monday night.

Sullivan East held a 6-0 lead heading to the sixth inning. In the top of the sixth, Rhett Slagle hit a home run over the centerfield fence that also scored Bryson Rowland and Steven Meadows. EHS kept fighting but was unable to get any closer.

Slagle had three RBI and two hits, while Justin Whitehead, JD Hooks, and Meadows each had a hit for EHS.

On the mound, Slagle struck out three batters and allowed just one earned run on three hits in four innings of work.

West Greene 8, Happy Valley 2
West Greene 10, Happy Valley 3
The Warriors dropped a doubleheader at West Greene on Monday.
In game one, HV jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Drew Blevins hit a home run over the right field fence that also scored Lane Parker, but the Warriors were unable to answer runs from West Greene in later innings.

Blevins finished with two hits and two RBIs, while CAde Kendall added two hits. On the mound, Tucker Shoun struck out eight batters and allowed just one earned run on six hits.

In game two, the Warriors were unable to battle back from a quick West Greene start as the Buffaloes took a 7-1 lead after two innings of play.

Colton Johnson, Kendall, Parker, and Shoun each had a hit for the Warriors with Parker and Johnson adding a RBI apiece.

Chuckey-Doak 16, Hampton 4
Hampton battled back from an early deficit but was unable to answer a big late-inning from the Black Knights.

After the Black Knights jumped out to a 5-0 lead after an inning and a half of play, Elisha Henson scored off a L Buchanan grounder to get HHS on the board. The Bulldogs closed the gap to one run in the bottom of the third with three runs as Chase Davenport, Gabriel Lyons, and Chance Point all touched home plate.

Chuckey-Doak, however, responded with six runs in the top of the fourth to take control.

Davenport went 2-for-3 with a RBI, while Buchanan and Henson each had a hit and an RBI. Noah Nichols and Jayden Kuhn added a hit apiece.

North Greene 20, Cloudland 2
The ‘Landers were unable to keep pace with the NG bats despite a hard-fought effort.

Jacob Stinnett and Brayden Whitaker scored runs for CHS, but the ‘Landers were unable to answer a pair of big innings from North Greene.

Whitaker struck out four batters on the mound, while Thomas Job and Stinnett also recorded two strikeouts
