CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Kirkwood High Cobras and Kenwood High Knights made a trip to Fortera Stadium at Austin Peay State University for a flag football matchup that went down to the wire on Monday, April 1.

Each team battled with high energy during a defensive battle, however, at the end of regulation the game remained a tie at 0-0, which pushed the game to overtime. In the end, Kirkwood High quarterback Jordin Moore secured the victory with a rushing touchdown to win 6-0.

Early on, the game was played at a slower pace as both teams were able to methodically drive the ball down the field, but neither were able to punch the ball into the endzone.

Kirkwood High head coach Nick Percich was very complimentary of his defensive coordinator, Ellie Tre’anton, and her game plan.

“Those kids love her to death,” Perchich told Clarksville Now. “Without her those kids would be lost, but she comes in every game with a great plan. They play insanely hard for her.”

Kenwood’s defense played just as well, sometimes bending, but never breaking. Linebacker Yazmine Pearson led the Knights defensive unit with timely flag pulls and pass deflections. Kenwood High head coach Karlee Pace had nothing but positive takeaways after her team’s defensive efforts.

“The girls gave all that they could give,” Pace said. “They looked at our struggles on offense, turned it around and said, ‘okay, now we have to get a stop on defense.’ Super proud of their effort tonight.”

Once Kirkwood punched in the game-winning touchdown, Perchich had one message for his players – never give up.

“It was awesome to get that one,” Percich said. “A lot of younger teams quit in those type of games, but we have freshman and sophomores that were ready to get after it. Kids at Kirkwood don’t give up.”
