CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Zachariah Taylor broke the Kenwood High school record for both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes during the Cobra Classic on Saturday, March 30, at Kirkwood High School.

“I find it funny honestly,” Taylor said. “Only a few years ago I was just trying to keep up with my upperclassmen. Now, I’m one of the fastest kids in Kenwood High history.”

On Saturday, Taylor first broke the program’s 100-meter dash record, finishing with a time of 10.60. According to Kenwood Athletics, the record hadn’t been broken since 2006 when Nick Muldrow completed the event with a time of 10.76.

Then, Taylor’s record-breaking day continued. As the meet progressed, he when he went on to break the record for the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 21.51.

The 200-meter record was previously held by Isiah Lucas, with a time of 21.74. That record has stood since 2016. Taylor’s coach, Domisha Mcarthur, said she could not be prouder of Taylor’s accomplishment.

“I just told him to remember that regardless of the challenges that life may throw at you, you must use those things to drive you to achieve and accomplish every goal you want in life,” Mcarthur said. “With that, you are students first so excelling and being driven in the classroom will always transfer to everything else in life. As long as you put your best foot forward, Coach Wally and I will push you to be the greatest young men you are meant to be, and that’s exactly what he’s done.”
