After falling in a quick hole, the 13th-ranked Cleveland High girls softball squad rebounded for a big fifth inning to pull out the victory over Chattanooga Christian School Wednesday, at Brenda Lawson Field.
After the Lady Chargers (5-8) put a pair of two-out runs on the scoreboard in the game's opening at bat for a lead they wouldn't relinquish until four frames later, the Lady Raiders (13-8) came up with a 4-spot in the fifth inning to capture a 5-3 win.

After an opening ground out, Emily Matthews and Addi Lewis drew back-to-back walks to set the stage for CCS's opening scores.
A fielder's choice moved both runners up a base, before Alli Matthews delivered a big two-run single to put the visitors up 2-0.
Cleveland was able to cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning when a Lady Charger error allowed Landri Nelson to reach safely before consecutive free passes to Furman signee Lily O'Bryan and Allison Farnsworth jammed the sacks.
Roane State signee Ashley Allen plated the run with a ground out, that was turned into a double play.
CCS tacked on a run in the third frame when Erin Matthews stroked a double and her courtesy runner A. Hughes, came around to score on two-bagger by Alli Matthews.
The game-winning rally for the hosts came in the bottom of the fifth when Lilly Mason ripped a double and came around to score on a single by Alexis Folts to get the party started.
The rest of the scoring came on back-to-back, two-out "jacks" by Farnsworth and Allen. The first also plated Nelson, who had reached on another CCS miscue.
Farnsworth got on base all three times with a single to go with her walk and "dinger."
O'Bryan went the distance in the circle, firing 77 strikes in 116 pitches, notching a half dozen Ks, walking two and scattering eight hits.
Halfacre went 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored for the Lady Chargers.
