The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Giles County Lady Bobcats 10-0 on the road Wednesday for their 11th loss of the season.
The Rebelettes were limited to just one total hit for the day while the Lady Bobcats steadily pulled away from them in the district contest.
Franklin County head softball coach Kelly Kennedy said that her team’s offensive struggles stemmed from not taking advantage of the right pitches when given the opportunity.
“The last few games that we’ve had, the girls have shown that they can swing the bats, but some nights, you’re going to come out here and pitch selection is not going to be great,” she said. “We just did not show up offensively, so Giles got the best of us.”
The Rebelettes’ only hit in the contest came in the top of the first as Emma Owens hit a one-out single through the middle of the infield. However, the next two batters struck out to leave Owens at first base.
The Lady Bobcats then scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead on the scoreboard.
The deficit grew further in the bottom of the third as the Lady Bobcats loaded the bases before they were promptly unloaded with a grand-slam home run, and a pair of errors later in the inning allowed another run to score to make it a 7-0 game.
The Rebelettes loaded the bases in the top of the sixth as Owens and Alyssa Sherrill both reached base on errors and Kaylee Morris drew a walk.
A pop-up off the bat of Jocilyn DeSmet was then dropped by Giles County’s shortstop to seemingly allow Owens to score with two outs in the frame, but the Rebelettes were called for interference after Madi Morris, pinch-running for Kaylee Morris, briefly made contact with the shortstop while running toward third base on the play.
The interference call resulted in the final out of the inning and nullified the run for Franklin County.
The Lady Bobcats ended the contest in the next half-inning as they scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to trigger the mercy rule and seal the loss by 10 for the Rebelettes.
Kaylee Morris pitched a complete game for the Rebelettes with nine hits, three walks, six earned runs and four unearned runs allowed.
With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 4-11 on the season and 1-3 in district play.
They will next play Friday in a pair of games for the Brentwood Invitational at Crockett Park. They are scheduled to play Fairview High School at 4 p.m. and Battle Ground Academy at 5:30 p.m.
