The Franklin County Rebels beat the Marshall County Tigers 6-2 on the road Friday for their sixth win of the season.
The Rebels did most of their scoring for the day in the early innings and limited the Tigers’ offensive opportunities throughout to secure the district victory.
A few errors from Marshall County to start the top of the second put Brayden Henley and Graysen McNeese on base with the former scoring on an RBI groundout from Caden Brown and the latter crossing home plate on a wild pitch to make it a 2-0 game early.
The Rebels added three more runs in the top of the third as Henley hit into an RBI fielder’s choice, McNeese recorded an RBI groundout and Gus Gardner hit an RBI single to grow the deficit to 5-0.
The last run of the day for Franklin County came in the top of the sixth with Sam Vincent hitting a two-out RBI single to push the lead up to 6-0 late.
The Tigers would record both of their runs for the day in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out error allowing one run to score and extending the inning for a subsequent RBI single to put the score at 6-2.
However, the Tigers wouldn’t produce a baserunner in the bottom of the seventh as the Rebels were able to wrap up the four-run victory.
Josiah Cullins started on the mound for the Rebels and pitched 6 2-3 innings with 11 strikeouts, three hits, three walks and two unearned runs allowed.
Vincent pitched to one batter in relief and induced a groundout for the final out of the game.
With the win, the Rebels improved to 6-9 on the season and 2-1 in district play.
They will next play Saturday at home against Coffee County Central High School. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
