Brentwood Academy hires Dan Wilkerson as girls basketball coach

Former Brentwood Academy assistant girls basketball coach Dan Wilkerson was named the program's head coach Monday.

The former Middle Tennessee Christian and Nashville Christian coach will take over for Rhonda Brown who resigned Feb. 20 after guiding the Lady Eagles for the last 23 seasons.

Wilkerson was an assistant on Brown's staff, helping the program win four TSSAA Division II-AA state titles with seven consecutive trips to the state championship game during his tenure.

Wilkerson takes over the varsity program after spending time as an assistant coach for Brentwood Academy's middle school girls team.

"Dan has the ability to set a foundation for our program while also being committed to establishing life-long relationships with his players." Brentwood Academy athletic director Jason Mathews said. "He knows how to win through a solid, strategic, and data-driven coaching style. He’s a defensive-minded coach who has proven to lead teams to championship."

Wilkerson helped build MTCS into a Class A power before he resigned after six seasons in 2012. He guided Middle Tennessee Christian to five 20-win seasons and his teams appeared in four sectional games. Wilkerson also served as an assistant coach for Brentwood Academy's boys program, and was the head coach for Nashville Christian girls.

Wilkerson's former Nashville Christian assistant, Kelsey Ogden, will take on that role at Brentwood Academy, as she transitions from the school's assistant athletics director to admissions counselor. Ogden is a former Davidson Academy girls coach.

Brentwood Academy finished 10-15 and 6-8 in DII-AA Middle Region play this past season and was eliminated by Lipscomb Academy in the first round of the region tournament.

Under Brown, BA’s three straight Division II-AA championships from 2014-16 ranks second in TSSAA history for consecutive titles. The school’s five state championships overall ranks fifth. Brown, a former Vanderbilt and WNBA standout, won 475 games and led the Lady Eagles to five state titles.
