Livingston Academy’s Lady Wildcats came off of a week with two losses and struck hard on Monday, April 1, soundly defeating Jackson County High School 16 to 1 with multiple hits and a handful of stolen bases.
“The girls did fantastic. They came prepared to play, and stayed true to our hitting plan. Very proud of them,” Head Coach Kacy Bennett said.
Bailey Hutchison drove in four runs on two hits in the bottom of the first, doubled in the second, scoring two runs, and hit a fly in the third, scoring one.
Sabrina Garrett added another single, raising the score another two runs. Kendall Simpson also singled, scoring one run along with Tatum Pendergrass, who singled, scoring two runs.
The team scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kaylee Pryor doubled, scoring one, and Megan Estell singled, scoring one run.
Pendergrass started on the mound. She allowed two hits and one run over four innings, with five strikeouts and one walk.
“I feel as if we played better, but we still need improvement on working together,” senior Megan Estell said. “I still see we need improvement on the way we approach the plate, and we all need to have a better attitude with confidence.”
The Lady Cats totalled 11 hits in the game, Jozie Allen led with three hits in four at bats, Simpson collected two hits, Jaycee Collins had three walks. Simpson, Collins, and Pryor each stole multiple bases, totalling eight throughout the game.
Senior Sabrina Garrett said, “It felt good to get a win because I know we are capable of having a winning season. I feel like we have more ability to play better than we have shown in the past few games. We could take this win and build on it together as a whole, knowing there is always room for improvement.”
The next game against DeKalb County High School was postponed from Tuesday, April 2, to Monday, April 29, due to strong storms that came barrelling through the mid-state that day.
Thursday’s home game against White County was postponed to Monday, April 15.
