BLOUNTVILLE — Brogan McGhee is finally playing the forward position he’s wanted for some time, and Dobyns-Bennett’s soccer team benefited Wednesday night.
McGhee scored four goals, helping the Tribe cruise to a district win at West Ridge 8-0.
He needed all of 28 seconds to score his first goal on a Gavin Farmer assist in the box. He later scored twice in less than a minute, the first on a rebound before finishing a quick counterattack from Bryson Broadwater for a quick 4-0 lead.
“I got moved to attacking this year because the midfield is stacked,” McGhee said. “I feel like mostly it was my teammates. All four of my goals were just good passes coming through from my teammates.”
His fourth goal came on a Cruz assist in the second half.
Freshman Abijah Powers scored on a Cooper McLain assist to make it 6-0 at the half, and Powers added a second goal in the 75th minute off another rebound.
Farmer followed up his assist with a goal in the second minute, and Wyatt Arrowood scored in the 24th. Broadwater dished out two assists for the Indians, who didn’t allow any shots on goal.
Cole McDavid made eight saves for the Wolves.
Wise Central 6, John S. Battle 1
NORTON — Wes Cantrell and Davis Miller scored two goals apiece and led Wise Central to a Mountain 7 win. Isaac Wallin, who handed out five assists, and Aaron Lawson each found the back of the net once.
Noah Trent made eight saves in goal to get the win.

Wise Central 1, John S. Battle 0
NORTON — Katie Bishop scored the game’s lone goal on an Emma Day assist, keeping the Lady Warriors in the Mountain 7 title chase at 3-1-1.
Harley Jett made four saves in the clean-sheet win.
BASEBALL
Science Hill 14, Abingdon 1
JOHNSON CITY — Nate Stoots went 2-for-3, driving in six runs including a grand slam to cap Science Hill’s 10-run second inning. Josh Marmo doubled and went 2-for-2, with Landon Smelser and Tucker Lewis adding two hits apiece.
Hagan Gibson started and struck out four in the first 3 2/3 innings to get the win.
A two-out wild pitch allowed Jett Humphreys to erase the shutout in the fifth.
Daniel Boone 16, West Ridge 6
BLOUNTVILLE — Brayden Blankenship hit a grand slam to help Daniel Boone finish off its district rival Wednesday night. Graham Jones and Jackson Utsman both doubled.
Alex Ireson hit a two-run double for the Wolves.
Tennessee High 3, Unicoi County 1
BRISTOL, Tenn. — Cainan Meyers struck out 14 batters and scattered four hits, going the distance to get the win.
Bryson Hutton went 2-for-3, accounting for half of Tennessee High’s hits.
Tanner Berry singled and drove in Unicoi County’s lone run. Kolby Jones struck out eight in 4 1/3 innings of relief.
Eastside 23, Thomas Walker 0
COEBURN — Keldan Hamilton struck out six over the first 3 1/3 innings, combining with Landon Nixon for a one-hit shutout.
Clay Ward doubled twice and drove in four runs, and Will Johnson went 3-for-4 from his leadoff spot. Tanner Perry (3 RBIs, 3 runs), Christopher Steele and Nixon had two hits apiece.
John I. Burton 10, Twin Springs 3
NICKELSVILLE — Ben Cochrane hit 2-for-3, driving in four runs and scoring twice himself for the Raiders. Brandon Edwards and Dru Peters both had two hits, and Colin Hart doubled with three RBIs.
Edwards went the distance and struck out five in the four-hit win.
Brennon Weddle and Kalub Mullins both doubled for the Titans.
SOFTBALL
West Ridge 20, Sullivan East 0
BLUFF CITY — Natalie Moore batted 4-for-5 and left the yard twice to lead the Lady Wolves. Kami Clark (2-for-5, 3 runs) and Lily Frazier (3-for-4, 4 RBIs, 3 runs) both doubled twice. Victoria Browder went 3-for-4, with Savannah Pogue and Cassidy Good both adding two hits.
Miranda Henley struck out three over the first three innings to get the win, and Browder fanned four in relief.
Brooklyne Loudy doubled for one of East’s two hits.
John S. Battle 5, Wise Central 2
NORTON — Katie Barrett went 2-for-3 and hit a two-run bomb to break the scoreless tie in the second inning for Battle. Hannah Lockhart went 2-for-4, and Taylor Childress doubled in two runs.
Childress struck out two and scattered six hits to get the win.
Chloe Wells went 2-for-3 with a home run for Central.
