Monday Round-up: Shoun Propels HV To Win; ‘Lander Rally Falls Short

Cedarview Christian 8, Cloudland 7
The ‘Landers were able to get the tying run to the plate but were unable to complete a rally.

Cloudland jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Cedarview answered with six runs in the top of the second. CHS was able to get two of those runs back before the Seahawks added single runs in the fourth and top of the fifth to take an 8-4 advantage.

Cloudland, however, battled back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to get the tying run at bat, but the ‘Landers were unable to keep the run going.

Walker Gouge was 3-for-3 to lead Cloudland, while Tristan Lowery had a hit and two RBI.

Thomas Job struck out six batters on the mound while allowing just two earned runs on five hits in three innings of work.

Happy Valley 8, South Greene 4
The Warriors outhit the Rebels 11-1 to take a key district win on Monday night at South Greene.

HV broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the top of the third and added single runs in the fourth and fifth to take a 6-1 lead into the sixth. The Warriors added two more in the top of the sixth and were able to keep SG at bay to take the win.

Tucker Shoun threw a complete game one-hitter as he struck out six batters. Shoun also recorded two hits at the plate.

Ty Johnson was 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Dorrian Young and Grady Goulds each had two RBI for the Warriors.

West Greene 6, Hampton 0
The Bulldogs came up short in a Monday battle.

West Greene plated single runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead and then pushed the advantage to 6-0 with four runs in the fourth.

Hampton, however, kept battling but was unable to mount a late rally.

Elisha Henson went 2-for-3 at the plate for Hampton. Chance Point stole his 125th career base during the game which moved him to sole possession of third place in the TSSAA record books.

Softball
Unicoi County 21, Hampton 0
The Lady Bulldogs were unable to keep pace with Unicoi on Monday evening.

Lacey Smith, Mallory Lamb, Emma Hughes, and Brooklyn Adams each had a hit for Hampton.
