The Huntland High School Lady Hornets lost to the Eagleville Lady Eagles 8-3 at home Tuesday for their fourth loss of the season.
The Lady Hornets kept the score close early against a formidable district foe, but the Lady Eagles pulled away in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game out of reach.
The Lady Eagles scored two runs in the top of the second and one in the third to put the score at 3-0 early.
The Lady Hornets got on the board in the bottom of the third as Bella Smith came through with a two-out RBI double to score Emily Stewart from second base.
Camerin Davis contributed an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to bring Blair Finchum around to score and make it a 3-2 game.
However, the Lady Eagles scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to bring the deficit back up to three runs, and he Lady Eagles tacked on another three runs in the top of the sixth to expand their lead to 8-2 late.
A solo home run from Jocy May in the bottom of the sixth made it an 8-3 game, but the Lady Hornets weren’t able to score again as they lost by five.
Smith pitched a complete game for the Lady Hornets with three strikeouts, seven hits, five walks, seven earned runs and one unearned run allowed.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 4-4 on the season and 2-1 in district play.
They will next play Thursday at New Hope High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
