CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – On Tuesday, April 16, the Rossview High Hawks hosted the Clarksville High Wildcats for a district, rivalry showdown. The game was made up of great pitching, timely hitting and an electric atmosphere, which ended with a Rossview High walk off victory.

To begin the game, left-handed starting pitchers Brodie Prairie (RHS) and Porter Murff (CHS) were dueling on the mound. Both kept their teams scoreless through two innings of work, until the Wildcats broke through in the top of the third when they scored four runs. Clarksville High head coach Brian Hetland knew how important it was to seize momentum early in the game.

However, Rossview High battled back and went on to tie the game after scoring four runs between the fourth and fifth innings.

The game would remain tied for a short stint, until Clarksville High would once again fight for the upper hand after an RBI single from catcher and Vanderbilt commit Korbin Reynolds. CHS led the remainder of the game, until the final inning began.

With one last gasp of air, the Hawks began to rally from behind, which was kickstarted with Prairie hitting a 1-out double. Rossview High’s Caden Slaughter was then able to drive in the baserunner to tie the game at 5-5.

Just as the teams were on the verge of going to extra innings, with two-outs and two runners on, Hawks catcher Ashton Kemp found a hole in the infield and knocked in the game winning run for a 6-5 victory.

“Anytime you can beat that team, it’s huge for this community,” Holman told Clarksville Now after the game. “We responded well, got on a run and that’s baseball. They’ve got a good team and so do we, we’re going to see them again soon.”
