Keith Runyon is stepping away from South Gibson boys basketball.

Runyon is retiring as the Hornets' head coach at the end of the school year, the school announced Thursday on social media.

Runyon was hired in 2021 after three seasons with Lexington. In three years with the Hornets, Runyon totaled a 46-17 record. Runyon's Hornet squads made the regional tournament each season and advanced to the sectional game in 2023, a 66-48 loss to Nashville M.L. King.

The Hornets went 12-18 this season, ending with a 69-34 loss to Haywood in a Region 7-3A quarterfinal game.

"SGC would like to thank Coach Runyon and his wife, Lori, for all that they have done over the past 3 years to pour into our students," South Gibson AD Mark Dunn wrote in a statement. "I know that Coach will follow wherever he is led in this next chapter in his life."

South Gibson will search for its next coach immediately.
