The Franklin County High School boys soccer team lost to the Chattanooga Christian Chargers 7-2 on the road Friday for the team's fourth loss of the season.
The Chargers did a majority of their scoring in the first half with Franklin County not being able to overcome the large early deficit.
The first goal of the day came in the opening minute with the Chargers turning a Franklin County giveaway into a goal.
Franklin County was able to answer back a few minutes later with Kevin Hernandez scoring off an assist from Cason Eslick to tie the score at 1-1.
The Chargers began to take control of the game about 15 minutes into the first half when they scored on a header off of a throw-in to jump ahead by a 2-1 margin.
The Chargers proceeded to score three more times in the next 10 minutes to boost their lead up to 5-1, and they added one more goal before the end of the half for good measure.
Franklin County trailed 6-1 at halftime.
The last goal of the day for the Chargers came about five minutes into the second half to put Franklin County behind by six goals.
A red card was issued against a Chattanooga Christian player midway through the second half, giving Franklin County an 11-on-10 advantage for the rest of the day.
Franklin County took the opportunity to put more pressure on the Chargers, and Hernandez was able to score on a free kick with about five minutes remaining for his second goal of the day and his 22nd of the year.
However, Franklin County wasn’t able to make up any more ground in the limited time remaining as the team lost by five.
With the loss, Franklin County moved to 5-4-1 on the season.
They boys soccer team will next play Tuesday at Giles County High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
