Thursday Round-up: ‘Landers Win Thriller, Cyclones Take Walk Off Win

Cloudland 8, Cedar View Christian 6
The ‘Landers won a thriller on Thursday night.

After Cloudland jumped out to a 4-0 lead through two complete innings, Cedar View battled back to close within one run with three runs in the bottom of the third.

CHS added a run back in the fourth, but the Seahawks closed the gap once more with a single run in the bottom of the sixth.

In a thrilling seventh inning, Cloudland plated three runs to increase the lead and then held off a Seahawks rally that saw them plate two runs and get the tying run on base.

Jacob Stinnett was 3-for-3 to lead the way for CHS, while Walker Gouge, Tristan Lowery, Bryson Peppers, and Thomas Job each had a hit.

Job picked up the win on the mound as he struck out 17 batters and allowed just four earned runs on four hits.

Elizabethton 1, David Crockett 0
The Cyclones won in walkoff fashion on Thursday night.

With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Jeriah Griffin put the ball in play and a Crockett error allowed Brayden Buckles to score the lone run of the game and lift Elizabethton to the win.

Steven Meadows went 2-for-4, while Justin Whitehead and Griffin each had a hit.

On the mound, Rhett Slagler struck out nine batters in seven innings of work and allowed no runs on three hits with just one walk.

Happy Valley 16, Unaka 4
The Warriors picked up a county win Thursday.

HV methodically pulled away with two runs in the first and three more in the second. HV added six runs in the bottom of the third.

Unaka, however, kept battling as they plated four runs in the top of the fourth but were unable to keep the rally going.

Lane Parker had five RBI for the Warriors as he went -for-4 with both hits being doubles. Grady Goulds was 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Tucker Shoun and Ty Johnson each had two hits. Cade Kendall added two RBI.

Micah Gray had two RBI with a double for the Rangers, while Jaycob Nidiffer, Robert Humphrey, Logan Lewis, Connor Vines, and Rylan Crabtree each added a hit. Prince added an RBI.

Hampton 24, Tri-Cities Christian 4
The Bulldogs took care of business in the third inning.

After entering the home side of the third with a 7-3 lead, the Bulldogs erupted for 17 runs to leave no doubt. Chance Point went 3-for-3 with four RBI, while Noah Nichols was 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Jayden Kuhn added four RBI and two hits. Geno Carrico had three RBI and two hits, while Elisha Henson finished with two hits and an RBI.

Softball
Cloudland 15, Hampton 1
The Lady ‘Landers pulled away for a county win in Roan Mountain.

CHS took a 3-0 lead in the first and never looked back.

Izabella Christman had five RBI on two hits, while Ryan Turbyfill went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Saharra McKinney and Layken Blair each recorded two hits, while Eowyn McCoury, Jayla Harper, Bethany Sluder, and Peyton Preswood each had a hit.

In the pitching circle, Reagan Turbyfill allowed just one earned run on four hits with seven strikeouts.

Hannah Smith, Mallory Lamb, Briley Davis, and Lillian Andrews each had a hit for the Lady Bulldogs. Lacey Smith had an RBI.

Happy Valley 9, University High 7
The Lady Warriors were able to hold a late UH charge to take the win.

HV scored four runs in the bottom of the second and four more in the bottom of the fourth to take an 8-0 lead. After each team scored a run in the fifth, the Lady Bucs plated five in the top of the sixth and one more in the seventh before HV was able to secure the win.

Miley Miller went 3-for-4 with four RBI for the Lady Warriors, while Juley Nieminski was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Makayla Miller added two RBI and a hit.

Trinity Bowers allowed just three earned runs to pick up the win in the pitching circle.

Elizabethton 15, Johnson County 0
The Lady Cyclones rolled to a win on Thursday.

EHS took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added three runs in the second and five in the third to take full control.

Lela Byrd went 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Mollie Johnson and Jozey Reece added two hits and two RBI. Mikinna Blackwell had three RBI and two hits. Emma O’Quinn added two RBI.

In the pitching circle, Byrd struck out eight batters and allowed no runs on three hits.
