Hampton Baseball Sees Season End In District 1-2A Tournament

The Hampton baseball team kept battling on Wednesday but was unable to rally to extend the season.

The Bulldogs dropped a hard-fought 10-0 decision to West Greene in the opening round of the District 1-2A tournament at West Greene.

With the loss, Hampton’s season comes to an end, while West Greene advanced to take on Chuckey-Doak on Thursday.

Chase Davenport opened the game with a one-out single for the Bulldogs in the top of the first. However, Hampton was unable to move the runner.

West Greene took a 2-0 lead in the home side of the frame, and pushed it to 3-0 in the second.

Hampton saw Landon Buchanan get on base in the fifth with a one-out single, while Geno Carrico drew a walk to give the Bulldogs runners the corner. HHS saw the next at-bat go into a ground out as Hampton came away empty.

West Greene extended the lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs and secured the win with five in the bottom of the sixth.

Buchanan and Davenport each had a hit for Hampton. Jayden Kuhn went four innings on the mound and allowed just three earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

Braden McCamey went 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead West Greene, while Conner Campbell and Maddox Garber had two hits and an RBI apiece.
