Sophomore Aidan Woods pitched a complete-game two-hitter as Abingdon earned an 11-1 five-inning Mountain 7 District baseball victory over the Ridgeview Wolfpack on Thursday evening.
Braylen DeBusk had two hits and three RBIs for AHS, while Elijah Parks and Daniel Fellhauer supplied two RBIs apiece.
Freshman Hayden Reed’s RBI double was also vital to the win.
Abingdon railed 1-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, but scored once in the fourth to tie and then scored 10 times in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game via the mercy rule.
Austin Rose drove in Terran Owens for Ridgeview’s only run.

A no-hitter and a high-scoring offense highlighted Lee High’s triumph over Thomas Walker.
First, Clay Robbins pitched a no-hitter with three walks and eight strikeouts.
Secondly, 13 different players had at least one RBI for the Generals.
A nine-run first inning, five-run second inning and 15-run fourth inning occurred in the onslaught.
Konner Early (2-for-3, four RBIs), Jacob Leonard (3-for-3, three runs, three RBIs), Cayden Tickner (three RBIs), Virgil Hobbs (three runs, two RBIs), Nate Shelburne (2-for-3, three runs, two RBIs) and Aiden Bates (2-for-2, four runs, three walks, three RBIs) led the way. Despite the 29-run showing, no home runs were hit.
Three Thomas Walker pitchers combined to give up 13 hits and issue 11 walks. The Pioneers also committed three errors.

Noah Tweed and Brady Statzer combined to pitch a three-hitter with nine strikeouts as the Holston Cavaliers earned a Hogoheegee District victory.
Eli Tweed, Collin Widener and Desmond Mickens each had two hits for the Cavs. A five-run fourth inning sealed the deal for the dudes from Damascus.
Eli Williams had two of Northwood’s three hits, scored a run and also tallied an RBI.

Patrick Henry 7, Honaker 2
Trajan Cannon’s arm resembled a cannon on Thursday as he struck out 11 in pitching six strong innings for the Patrick Henry Rebels in their Hogoheegee District victory over visiting Honaker.
Cannon allowed two runs on two hits, while walking five. He also tallied two RBIs at the plate.
Cannon is 4-1 with a 1.07 ERA this season with 56 strikeouts and 14 walks in 32 2/3 innings.
“Trajan is a great kid that loves to compete on the mound,” said PH coach Eric Rutherford. “I've seen him progress through Little League, travel ball and now high school. He puts in work in the offseason and works to get better. His ability to command his fastball and work ahead in the count has been a big reason for his success. Being a southpaw doesn't hurt either.”
Kolby Hicks pitched a scoreless seventh inning to preserve the win.
Aidan Monahan and Waylon Daniels had two hits each for PH.
Eli McGlothlin and Kam Beavers had Honaker’s hits. Beavers and Matthew Nunley drove in the runs for the Tigers.
Grundy 1-5, Jenkins (Ky.) 2-2
Talan Hall and Jonah Looney each had two hits as Grundy earned a 5-2 win over the Jenkins Cavaliers from Kentucky in the second game of a doubleheader.
Hall also pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts.
Grundy managed just two hits in suffering a 2-1 loss in the opener.
John Battle 12, Wise County Central 2
Senior Noah Sills got the scoring started with his bat and closed the door with his arm as the John Battle Trojans topped Wise County Central for a Mountain 7 District victory.
Battle (15-4) trailed 2-0 before Sills delivered a three-run double with one out in the bottom of the third inning that plated Landon Odum, Noah Hill and Elijah Childress to give the Trojans the lead for good as they reeled off a dozen unanswered runs.
“Noah Sills has worked really hard on his swing this year,” said John Battle coach Jimmy Gobble. “That was a big hit for us and him.”
Sills also relieved starter Landon Odum on the mound and allowed just one hit over the course of three innings to notch the save. He walked one and struck out two.
The senior signed with Patrick & Henry Community College in Martinsville, Virginia, on Wednesday.
Freshman Palmer Gobble had two hits for Battle, while Caden Sturgill (three RBIs) and Porter Gobble (Two RBIs) also played well.
Grey Kennedy had two hits for Central. Jaron Wyatt and Isaiah Bentley scored the runs for the Warriors.

Gate City 14, Union 4
Eli McMurray, Brayden Cox, Luke Bledsoe and Zachary DePriest each had two hits as Gate City earned a pivotal Mountain 7 District victory over the Union Bears.
Gate City finished with 11 hits and took advantage of five union errors. A six-run sixth inning ended the game early.
The Blue Devils are now in third place in the Mountain 7 District, trailing Abingdon and John Battle in the standings.
Gate City can pull into a tie for second with wins over Ridgeview, Abingdon and Lee High in its final three games or if John Battle loses to Lee High on Monday.
Cox, Bledsoe, DePriest and Layton Barnett added two RBIs apiece for GC, while Allen Lane pitched four scoreless innings of relief with six strikeouts.
Keith Chandler, Sam Whitman and Kam Bishop each had two hits for Union, while Collyn Neff tallied two RBIs. The Bears failed to hold an early 4-1 lead.

Brody Witt was Marion’s main masher as he went 2-for-4 with five RBIs in a Southwest District triumph in Bluefield.
Ethan Campbell, Brady Roberts and Mason Pugh all added two hits apiece.
Graham received two this apiece from Cam McCroskey and Nathan Phillips.

Dobyns-Bennett 9, West Ridge 5
Taylor Blankenship went 3-for-3 with three RBIs as Dobyns-Bennett whipped West Ridge and eliminated the Wolves from the TSSAA District 1-4A Tournament.
Brayden Barr homered for West Ridge and finished with two hits.
Kas Click also had two hits, while Morgan Ward tallied two RBIs in the loss.
The Wolves pulled within 6-5 in the top of the sixth inning, but D-B scored thrice in the bottom of the inning for added insurance.
West Ridge went 0-2 in the district tourney as the program’s third season came to an end.
Richlands 11, Tazewell 6
Gage Hylton, C.J. Earls, Levi White and Ben Hale – the first four batters in the lineup – each had two hits for the Richlands Blue Tornado in a Southwest District victory over archrival Tazewell.
Reece Ratliff added two RBIs for the Blues, who built a 7-1 lead and held on.
White pitched 6 2/3 strong innings with nine strikeouts to get the win on the mound.
The longtime foes combined for 17 runs, 19 hits, six errors, 10 walks and 19 strikeouts.
Tazewell received two hits apiece from Walker Patterson and Chase Brown.
SOFTBALL
Wise County Central 11, Union 1
Sofie Carter and the Wise County Central Warriors earned some revenge with a win over rival Union on Thursday.
However, the biggest beneficiary of that result was the John Battle Trojans.
Central’s win assured Battle the Mountain 7 District regular-season title and gave the Trojans an automatic bid to the Region 2D tournament.
Just one day after suffering a 5-1 setback to Union, Central turned the tables as Carter homered as part of her 2-for-3, three-run performance.
Kaelyn Dales, Lauren Jackson and Sophie Fleming also had two hits apiece for the Warriors. Fleming had three RBIs, while Adele Dingus, Chloe Wells and Jackson supplied two RBIs apiece.
Dales pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts.
Kaylee Rutherford went 2-for-3 and accounted for Union’s only run with a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning.
Holston 12, Northwood 2
Two was the lucky number for Holston’s Lucy Reid on Thursday.
She went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and two RBIs as the Cavaliers crushed Northwood for a Hogoheegee District win.
Holston won three of its four games this week.
Lucia Wright (2-for-3, two runs) also had a big day, while Rily Cobler pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and also drove in two runs.
Kinsey Bradley’s three RBIs and MJ Musser’s two RBIs were also key.
Sydney Carter had an RBI for Northwood, while Maddie Lowe and Ella Doane scored the runs for the Panthers.

Kailyn Breeding blasted two home runs as the Richlands as the Blue Tornado trounced Tazewell for a Southwest District victory.
Breeding finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
“Outstanding,” said Richlands coach James “Moose” Cochran. “She was locked in from the start. She really takes the Tazewell rivalry personal and wants to do well against them. It shows with three home runs in two games.”
Kira Vance also went yard as part of her 3-for-4 showing.
Ady Moore added two hits and winning pitcher Arin Rife drove in two runs.
Rife pitched four hitless innings with nine strikeouts before Averi Fuller took over in the circle.
Whitney Bowman, Aaelyn Snapp and Riley Lowe had Tazewell’s hits.

Mariah Branscomb went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Lauren Baker pitched a five-hitter as Abingdon rocked Ridgeview for a Mountain 7 District victory.
Kinley Brooks and Maggie Crabtree added two hits apiece for the Falcons.
Baker struck out six in the circle.
Caiti Hill and Kenzie Ramey each had two hits for Ridgeview. Hill scored the Wolfpack’s lone run on an RBI from Ramey in the fourth inning.

Freshman Suzanna Barker had three hits and fellow ninth-grader Sadie Amos had two hits and two RBIs as Marion mashed Graham for a Southwest District road win.
Taylor Preston pitched a five-hitter for the Scarlet Hurricanes.
Ja Lanier hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning for Graham.

A five-goal masterpiece from Isaac Wallin led the way for Wise County Central as the Warriors roared to a win over John Battle.
Gabe Ringley also scored, while Davis Miller was a master facilitator with three assists.

Abingdon dominated in every sense of the word in a Mountain 7 District triumph.
Tazewell 6, Richlands 1
Richlands might have lost its soccer match to Southwest District nemesis Tazewell on Thursday, but Cooper Hurst of the Blue Tornado had an eventful day.
Hurst scored a goal for the soccer squad after he had already helped the Blue Tornado tennis team earn an 8-0 triumph over Tazewell.
Hurst won his singles match 8-0 and teamed with Jack Clem for a 6-0, 6-0 doubles win prior to finding the back of the net on the soccer field.
GIRLS SOCCER
Graham 4, Marion 2
Sophie Scarberry scored two goals and Ella Dales dished out two assists to lift the Graham G-Girls past Marion for a Southwest District victory. Dales and Emmy Spaulding had the other goals in the win.
Raegan Burchett and Ava Smith scored Marion’s goals. Burchett also added an assist.
Wise County Central 4, John Battle 0
Bella Newberry, Sophia Stallard, Alexandra Onate and Abbie Jordan scored goals as Wise County Central blanked John Battle for a Mountain 7 District victory.
Riley Stallard and Emma Day had assists for the Warriors, while goalkeeper Harley Jett made three saves.
Abingdon 12, Ridgeview 0
Behind four goals from Ella Seymore and Eliza Burcher, Abingdon had no trouble rolling past Ridgeview for a Mountain 7 District triumph.
Elizabeth Nichols added three goals of her own, while Megan Kidd also found the back of the net.
Virginia High 4, Lebanon 1
Mia Jarvis scored the tiebreaking goal five minutes into the second half as Virginia High dominated the final 40 minutes in a Southwest District road win.
Shay Cannon, normally a defender, headed in a cross off a corner kick from Mary Katherine Wilson to get the Bearcats (10-3, 6-1) on the board with 12 minutes remaining in the first half.
Wilson scored twice in the second half to seal the deal as Paris Martin assisted her on both goals.
VHS plays at Richlands today.
Gate City 10, Union 0
Emma Reed scored four goals and an assisted on another as Gate City relied on a balanced attack in overwhelming Union.
Abrey Smith, Ayden Seaver, Brooke Stokes, Madison Tipton, Reagan Crawford and Erin Hensley also found the back of the net.
Georgia Griffis added three assists, while Erin Hensley and Avery Elam combined for the shutout in goal.
