Happy Valley was unable to overcome a quick South Greene start on Thursday.

The Warriors battled back but came up short in a 14-6 decision to South Greene in the District 1-2A tournament at South Greene on Thursday evening.

With the loss, Happy Valley moves into Friday’s elimination game against Chuckey-Doak. That game is scheduled for a 7:30p first pitch at West Greene on Friday night.

HV had to battle back from an early deficit.

After a scoreless first inning, the Rebels plated eight runs in the bottom of the second, one in the third, and three more in the fourth to take a 12-0 lead.

HV, however, didn’t go quietly.

Cayden Shepherd reached base on an error before Carson Sells drew a two-out walk as the Warriors put runners on first and second. Tucker Shoun hit a triple to left field to plate the two runs and then scored off a Lane Parker single. The next at-bat saw Drew Blevins hit a two-run home run to close the gap to 12-5.

HV was able to get two more runners on base but was unable to keep the rally going.

The Warriors looked to cut into the lead in the sixth by loading the bases but South Greene was able to retire the side with no harm.

The Rebels added two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

HV continued to battle to the final at-bat.

Grady Goulds, Cade Kendall, and Ty Johnson each hit a single to open the seventh to load the bases. Shepherd hit into a fielder’s choice to plate Goulds. The Warriors, however, were unable to keep the rally going.

Kendall went 2-for-4 at the plate. Blevins and Shoun had two RBI and a hit apiece, while Parker and Shepherd each added an RBI.

Johnson struck out six batters in just over four innings of work as he allowed five earned runs on six hits.
