The Henry County High School Lady Patriots softball team took another step toward a District 14-4A tournament title on Thursday night, beating Dickson County, 2-0, in Paris, behind a no-hitter from starting pitcher Celia Lamkin.

Lamkin pitched the shutout against the Lady Cougars. She had 12 strikeouts in the game and allowed no hits and no runs while walking three in seven innings.

HCHS scored in the first inning when Noe Wilkerson led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Irelynn Beecham. Wilkerson took third on a wild pitch, then scored when Lamkin grounded out to the third baseman.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Patriots added an insurance tally when Layne Latimer led off with a double to center. Maddie Moroni took over as a courtesy runner for Latimer and moved to third on a passed ball on a third strike to Lady Pat batter Andie Barrett. Reed Jackson then got the run in on a single to center.

Latimer and Jackson each had two hits for the Big Red.

Henry County is 23-4-1 after the win over Dickson County. The Lady Pats will have a chance to win the district tournament on Friday night, playing at 6 p.m. against the survivor of the 4 p.m. contest. The game is at HCHS.
