Lady ‘Landers Force If-Necessary Game With Win Over NG In District 1-A Tournament

Cloudland wasn’t going to be denied on Friday night.

The Lady ‘Landers answered a North Greene rally to take a 6-5 victory in eight innings in the District 1-A Championship game. With the win, Cloudland forces an if-necessary game at 1p on Saturday with the winner claiming the title.

The Lady ‘Landers jumped out in the in the third.

Saharra McKinney and Savannah McCoury hit singles to open the third, and Eowyn McCoury reached on an error to load the bases. Ryan Turbyfill hit a single to right field that plated two runs, and Reagan Turbyfill played E. McCoury to give CHS a 3-0 lead after the third.

Cloudland added a run in the force as Peyton Preswood hit a single to open the inning, and the sophomore scored off an S. McCoury single.

In the fifth, Layken Blair hit a single that pushed R. Turbyfill across the homeplate to give CHS a 5-0 lead.

North Greene battled back in the bottom of the fifth.

Heidi Harmon and Matti Phillips each hit a one-out single to reach base, and Hannah Brooks hit a line drive to centerfield that plated the two runs.

Neither team was able to get anything going in the sixth setting the stage for a seventh-inning rally.

After a strikeout started the frame, Harmon and Phillips drew walks to get on base, and Brooks plated the two runs with a shot to center field. Loren Blevins tied things up with a double to plate Brooks.

North Greene was able to get the winning run to third base, but Cloudland held strong to force extra innings.

Rea. Turbyfull opened the top of the eighth with a triple and scored what proved to be the game-winning run with a hit from Jayla Harper.

The Lady ‘Landers retired the side in the order in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win.

Ry. Turbyfill and S. McCoury had two hits apiece with Ry. Turbyfill recorded two RBI.

Brooks was 2-for-4 with four RBI to lead North Greene.
