The Tullahoma High School softball team played a doubleheader against Marshall County Friday night for the Class 3A District 8 Championship.
In the first game the Lady Wildcats lost 7-6, but they won the second game 11-10 with a Kaitlynn Gattis walk-off single.
In the first game, the Lady ‘Cats had a 6-0 lead through three innings, but could not scratch across another run. They scored the first run in the bottom of the second on a single from Kylee Holt with the bases loaded. Sara Tate and Aleigha Raby singled, then Elizabeth Simpson sacrifice bunted to move the runners to second and third. Margaret Lynch walked to load the bases for Holt. In the third inning, Tullahoma scored five runs. Madison Goad and Gattis singled to start the inning, the left fielder made an error on Gattis’ single that allowed Goad to score from first. Tate doubled to bring in Gattis. Raby singled and then Simpson sacrificed again, putting the runners at second and third with two outs. Miaha Johnson pinch hit and lined a double scoring both runners. Holt singled to score Lynch, who was running for Johnson. The Lady ‘Cats had just five base runners in the last four innings.
Amaya Sharp pitched the entire game throwing 102 pitches. She caught a short break as AC Holloway started the second game. Holloway through one inning and did not record an out in the second. She threw 51 pitches. Sharp came in and pitched the last six innings, throwing another 111 pitches. She struck out three batters.
The Lady Wildcats racked up 15 hits and scored a run in every inning. Holt opened the game with a triple. Addye Norman was hit by a pitch and then Goad hit a single to score a run before the team recorded an out. Brinley Gillam singled scoring two more runs. In the second Holt reached on an error, stole second and then scored on a single from Norman. Goad was walked intentionally walked to setup a double play because Norman advanced to third on a throwing error. The walk worked as Marshall County picked up a double play on the next pitch. Gillam walked to start the third and Tate singled. Raby lined a ball to the first baseman for a double play. Simpson singled and an error by the shortstop allowed Gillam to score. Lynch and Holt singled, but Tullahoma left the bases loaded on a fly out.
The fourth inning started with a Goad walk. Gattis lined a single into left field and Goad advanced to third. Gillam scored Goad on a groundout to second base. The Lady Wildcats took their first lead in the fifth. Simpson singled and Lynch bunted her to second. Holt reached on an error advancing Simpson to third. Norman grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored Simpson to make it 7-6. Then Goad Doubled to score Norman. Gattis reached on an error that scored Goad. Tate singled to lead off the sixth and Raby bunted her to second. Simpson singled putting runners at the corners with one out and Johnson brought in Tate on a sac fly to center field. In the seventh Marshall County scored three runs to tie the game up at 10. After picking up an out, they intentionally walked Goad. She stole second and then Gattis singled to score her and win the game.
