The Campbell County High School boys basketball team defeated Cumberland Gap 66-46 at home on June 12.

“I thought we were full of energy, running the floor and pushing the break,” assistant coach Brandon Clawson said. “Everything we’ve wanted them to do they were doing against Cumberland Gap. It helps that Will hit probably 5 or 6 threes in that ball game.”

Will Croley took over the game early for Campbell County as he dominated on offense by slicing through the Cumberland Gap defense for easy scoring opportunities.

Campbell County played extremely fast on the defensive end of the court and sped Cumberland Gap up which resulted in turnovers and transition scoring opportunities.

Sam and Jack Sexton showed off great hustle during the first quarter and the brothers outworked Cumberland Gap on the glass.

Koalton Cupp also had a strong quarter in the paint as he was able to outmaneuver bigger defenders.

Campbell County led 22-15 at the end of the first quarter.

Campbell County continued its strong game offensively as Jake Hatmaker and Hunter Dotson took over in the second quarter.

The duo was able to create for themselves off the dribble while also keeping a great vision of the court to find open teammates.

Braydon Graham provided great energy off the bench as he used his physicality and quickness to outwork taller defenders.

The team speed of Campbell County was the difference in the game in the first half as Campbell County led 39-24 at halftime.

Campbell County didn’t have any fall off in its intensity in the second half as it was able to continue to apply unrelenting pressure on Cumberland Gap.

Croley was amazing offensively in the third quarter as he was scoring from anywhere and everywhere on the court.

Caden Heatherly was able to showcase excellent dribbling skills as he broke down the Cumberland Gap defense with ease.

Heatherly also made a few three pointers in the third quarter.

Campbell County led 53-35 at the end of the third quarter.

Campbell County worked deeper into its bench in the fourth quarter, but the results stayed the same as it rolled to victory.
