About CoachT.com

CoachT is Jim Thompson, a graduate of Lawrence County High School where he excelled on the basketball court and the football field. In the summers he played Babe Ruth baseball, pitching in the State tournament in three different years.

He played football at Austin Peay State University for four years and basketball for one. After graduation, he moved to Charleston S.C. where he coached football and JV basketball for 2 years at St. Andrews Parish. He then coached at Middle Tennessee State for one year as a graduate assistant before returning to Charleston as a married man and coaching one year at Middleton (now West Ashley) High in 1977-78.

Jim then returned to Lawrence County High School where he coached basketball for eight years (6 as an assistant and two as head coach), football for 8 years, baseball for two years and golf for eighteen years.

On Oct. 15th,1997 the CoachT web site began as a way to cover the Lawrence County Lady Cats basketball team for the local fans. When time permitted, Coach Thompson also served as a broadcaster for WDXE. Fortunately, the Lady Cats won the Class AAA State Championship that season and the site was expanded to cover all of District 8-AAA. After signing on with Rivals.com, CoachT became a comprehensive, state-wide site. That relationship lasted a little over a year before Rivals declared bankruptcy. When they reemerged, CoachT had decided to maintain their independence.

CoachT covers every sport at every high school in Tennessee, including schedules, records, standings, and rankings. Information on every school and directions to their campus are included. A scoreboard where the results of every game are available is very popular. All TSSAA championships are covered extensively. Fans are able to post pictures and discuss upcoming contests.

From its inception to the present, CoachT.com has had visitors from well over 100 countries, averaging 80/90 countries per year with 761,000 registered members and links to 760,000 articles. 207,000 pictures have been posted, after content validation. These are then available for download, free of charge. On a typical Friday night during football season, CoachT will average 300,000 visitors.

In February of 2024, Lawrence County High presented Jim with the Outstanding Achievement Award.

CoachT now covers eight additional states as well as Tennessee college and professional teams but his primary focus is still to highlight Tennessee high school sports.

Jim and his wife, Elaine, have been married for 47 years and have three children and 6 wonderful grandchildren.
