  2. We are in Greeneville, Tn. I think we are about 2.5 hrs away. Shoot me an email at sheltonrj@gcschools.net. We have a tournament every Jan. We run it just like a high school tournament. We usually have an average of 16 teams give or take a couple depending on the weather. We also have a separate jv division running at the same time in the same gym.

  3. Both very intense matches Frye and Cline had a great one that could have gone either way and begley vs broyles was tough from the get go. I'm not sure if I would have called that a fall. They honestly just kind of fell into the position.

What was scores from the teams and individual classes?
  4. Last year, I had the most ever at GMS that traveled and wrestled after season with AAU. I had about 16. Several of them at GHS now. I have several more that want to this year. I know that some also attended some clinics with Caleb at Science Hill. It is better at GMS right now with kids wanting to travel.

  5. We are trying to build this tournament into a stronger tournament this year. We usually have 12-14 teams. We currently have 12 with 3-4 undecided. I know this is a high school thread, but I do not have contacts for all of your feeder programs. If you or your feeder program are interested in details, please contact me at sheltonrj@gcschools.net. The tournament will be held on the 26th of January. We will run a varsity bracket and a jv bracket at the same time. We will have 4-5 mats runnnig at once. We will medal 1-4 for both varsity and JV. We run it just like the high school tournament so it is a great experience for young wrestlers to see how a high school tournament runs. It will be held at Hal Henard Elementary in Greeneville Tn. The same location as the high school tournament. We will use NE TN weight classes which I think match TMSAA. I can send the info if interested.

  6. CD over WG tonight 52-50 in OT I think. Sounds like WG has something to say about this season. All teams in Greene appear close. Greeneville over SG by 8 at SG in a very tight game. I think CDHS and GVille are both 2-0 in the league. Good luck teams.

  7. 1:Grainger: 0 seniors on last years District runner-up and regional semis team.

2-5: 3 Greene County teams and Greeneville--hard to pick between these so earlier in the season.

Greeneville has great PG and Shipley can score. Not much depth, but most teams don't have any either.

C-D has probably best PG in conference and couple other solid players in Riddle and Aubrey.

WG returns 4 solid players but lack depth.

SG has a great guard in Cutshaw, but lost most of their offensive production other than her.

    6: Claiborne

    7: Cumberland Gap

    Player of the Year possibilities:

Frye--CD: unbelievable competitor and can carry her team to victories.

Christopher--Greeneville: same as Frye, just needs to look to score more this year.

Johnson--Grainger: post girl who scores anywhere on the floor; has good players around her so cant just key on her.

Cutshaw--SG: great athlete and scorer, not many scorers around her this year so teams may really lock her down.

    C. Murphy--WG: quite possibly the best all-around player in conference; can score inside and out; at 6'1" she blocks and adjusts so many shots on the defensive end.

Glad it's time to talk bball. I agree with you most on the top four. They are all pretty close. I don't talk much here since my daughter plays. Greeneville vs. South Greene on Tuesday for a big game for both teams.

  8. Wow, what a season. I am hoping this is my last post as I begin to switch into basketball and wrestling gear. I should switch gears since I actually have children in devil uniforms in those venues.

I just have a few things to say. State Championships are rarely won with the efforts of one individual person. I celebrated last season and thought that making it back would be hard pressed. I would love to see last year's team play this year's team because those teams are so different. I have reflected on the last three years and feel as though this run is something we may never see again. We have 22 starters (not seniors) that contributed and that gold ball will be in OUR and their trophy case as long as most of us are alive. I have coached many sports at many levels and have never had a team of one. So, don't congratulate one, congratulate them all. Don't put one above others, put all above one. Gold Ball goes to the GHS Devils. I may upset someone in saying this but here was my picks for awards. Offensive MVP = O line who opened up holes, and receivers who blocked, and anyone else who had a part. Defensive MVP = the D-line for stopping opponents O-line and pushing the runner a certain direction, putting pressure on the QB, or intercepting a pass. These things take hard work from good kids and great coaching to push them. I can't say enough about this team who continued to push each and every week. Many times they proved me wrong as they went above and beyond what was expected. I am a former Devil, but I never played football. This award is theirs to enjoy on the short term and all Devil fans and alumni to enjoy FOREVER! No one can ever take it away! GO DEVILS-----ALL IN!

  9. Spradlin and Carmichael are gone and the current Greeneville players are used to playing teams from the BRAC as well as a depleted Alcoa team that was hammered with injuries when GHS beat them. Maplewood has battled the likes of:

    Liberty Tech (4A second round)

    Pearl-Cohn (3A quarterfinalist)

    White House (4A quarterfinalist)

    Brentwood Academy (D-II quarterfinalist)

    CPA (3A semifinalist)

    Covington (4A semifinalist)

    Riverdale (6A semifinalist)

Who is more "battle tested" at this point in time? Maplewood! This is why they are going to beat Greeneville tomorrow afternoon.

I love the comparisons, but 3 of those are the playoffs. Greeneville had 3 playoff rounds as well. All teams at that point are a little better. Of the other 4 great teams, MW is 1-3 with the win coming at 21-20 score.

I am not saying that they don't deserve to be there because they do. It is very difficult to comapare East Tn with West Tn teams. I'm not breaking down Greeneville's schedule versus MW. This should be a good game.

  10. what do they have to do with this game?

..lol man ...i let a fire for you!!! ...oh yes i did ... you just keep it coming. ..if that boosts your confidence ..you work it!!!

Maplewood 31 - Greenville 17 ...mine just went up a point to..i feel it!!

I was just curious about the number of graduates from last year's team. How that effects this year's team and so forth. I am still puzzled by the number of folks expecting a rout (although I would love it). It changes nothing in regards to hard work and team play and dedication. I still am going with my updated prediction 24-24 although I have missed most scores this year. Devils win if they can control the ball and avoid turnovers and careless mistakes. This should be a very good Championship game.

Oh and I am one of those kids that transferred from county in 7th grade although the biggest reason then was that my parents thought I would get a better education and city schools offered wrestling. I have taught in the city and the county. Good things are happening in both systems and the re-alignment by TSSAA has helped both systems in my opinion. If a kid works hard, it doesn't matter where they go, good things will come from it.

  11. Back to football. I made my pick back on page 8 (31-21 GHS in a tight game.) Props to both teams. Who graduated more people. I know Greeneville graduated a couple of O-Line guys, Carmichael, Spradlin, and Story. I think our secondary is a bit weaker which was shown last week. The D-Line is a year stronger and we have replaced the secondary with great speed. The offense has not appeared to miss much from the great players hence the line is doing it's job. MW has a great D, so therefore the closeness in my prediction.

But, who did MW graduate last year? If they graduated a bunch of people, how can the game be better than 17-7. Maybe I should lower my scores a bit and go with 24-14, but I still think Greenveille is just as good if not better and the fact that MW runs most of the time hurts them. Vanlier is a great back but small in stature. I just don't think unless we see Greeneville with 3 or more turnovers and very poor play that MW can blow this game open to a win. They are a huge underdog. I wish them the best, but I think GVille wins again.

    Anyone know who they graduated?

  12. Come on guys, it's early in the week and we need to clean it up on here. This is a great site to discuss football and ruined by a few that don't understand that. I know that everyone wants to WILL or POST their team to a Victory and a Gold Ball on Sat. But, the fact is that we haven't practiced the last 6-8 months to get here. They have. I have not seen Maplewood play and missed that game last year. (Maplewood will also.)I do know that these boys from Greeneville are and will be ready as they have every week this year. They have a great staff that will prepare them for whatever Maplewood brings. As for the game, it's a State Title game. It's gonna be tough. It should be. I got bored watching last years game. Both teams are different. I think it is a defensive game and I think Greeneville has a slight edge. (Look at the Mr. Football awards!) On offense, it's close again. I know Maplewood has a decent RB, but Greeneville will throw 3-4 different guys with many different abilities at you. I give Greeneville a slight edge here. I think Greeneville's kicker is an added weapon for us. I have to say it should be a great game. My pick this week is Greeneville 31 to Maplewood 21. If either team has turnovers, then it WILL affect the outcome. I hear the sportsmanship in the game last year was great, so let's have some on here as well. GO DEVILS-------ALL IN!

  13. Not what I asked. Your poor DB play cost you a championship last time around. I was just wondering if I can expect more of the same.

Yes! they are horrible and are overlooking you guys. They have forgotton 09' and will not be prepared at all. My guess is your QB can throw all day long. He may even break a HS record for yards and TD's! Just my opinion!
