  1. IMHO Fulton could score some points on Maryville, but not for long. GQ would see the weakness shore it up and then the onslaught would begin. SC should be a very tough test for most teams by playoff time. I mean heck they're tough now with 7 starters out. Batman I remember those BIG lineman you are talking about, when DB played at SC a couple years ago, looked like someone spiked the Gatorade with miracle grow.

I have spoken to several people in the Knoxville area that have said that this Fulton team is the best that they have ever seen. They have blown out 3 6A schools (Powell, Bearden, & Farragut). This week Farragut scored the first points off their D late in the 4th quarter against the 2nd or 3rd team. Apparently, there are 6-7 D1 athletes on that team. One long time Maryville fan told me that the only chance that they would have against Fulton is coaching because Fulton is scary big and scary fast. The question would be if Maryville could score as many points against that tenacious defense that Fulton would put up against them.

  2. I saw Farragut play last week. I was impressed with their skill players, especially their QB and TE/RB. I have no clue what Oak Ridge looks like this year. I know playing last week will be an advantage for Farragut. I'll be curious to see how this one plays out.

  3. I agree totally Pudding , and I also would like for us to not even mention " the call " anymore on this thread , we have the other thread for any discussion on that . I really hate this not just for Maryville Kids , but also for the Whitehaven kids . Those Whitehaven Kids had absolutely nothing to do with that call , and I don't want them to feel like their win is tainted at all . Mark Dodson is one Awesome Running Back , one of the best ever in Tennessee probably . I for one will not even mention the call again on this thread , let's let the Whitehaven kids enjoy this , and maybe something good will come out of this after all . I've never before in over 30 years of playing and watching Football , heard as much talk about the Refs as I have this Year , Maybe this play will cause the TSSAA to look into more training for their Refs and more accountability . I think all of us can agree that would not be a bad thing , now would it ?!

Congrats Whitehaven on your Gold Ball , enjoy it and it would be an Honor to meet you guys again next year , let's both try our best to meet back here again next year Good Luck !!!!

Pep, it may not matter to you, but I have gained a lot of respect for the way you have responded this week.

  4. ...the constant conversation going on between Whitehaven players and the ump when they (the Tigers) were on defense (which is a definate no-no)

Stars, I can understand the frustration if the referee was talking to the WH players. I expect them to be friendly and cordial, but there is a line. I felt that way at the DB/Maryville game. At the beginning of halftime, GQ was on the field being very chummy and laughing with the refs. After a few questionable spots, this did not sit well with me.

  5. Well I hate it for these kids who obviously deserve better....And for many of these "ritchie cunningham's" (unlike the SEC talent on Whitehaven's team) on our TEAM, who are seniors, there are no more football tomorrows...

It is unfortunate that the game ended the way that it did on the missed call. Clearly, it was a missed call. Even if the call was made correctly, WH still might have one the game. I think these kids will be just fine. They have 2-3 rings already. Some of the best lessons learned in life doesn't come from victories or success, but from adversity and acknowledging that life isn't always fair. They will be better men because of it. It doesn't take away from the hurt or pain now, but they can take comfort in their ring from last year.

  6. I recognize that Maryville has been the most successful program in the state for the past 15 years. I am simply responding to Grey saying that Knoxville teams suck. There are 3 Knoxville teams that put the game so far out of reach THIS YEAR that their games could not be decided by a bad call.

  7. well PEP those knoxville folks have to experience their defeats of MARYVILLE vicariously because they all suck and they will continue to suck right along with packer himself. Do not see any of them beating us lol not for many many moons...

There are three Knoxville schools celebrating their state championships this weekend while you are complaining about missed calls.

  8. Before SH can carry the mantle of big dog on the block, they will actually need to beat DB. This years seniors weren't even born the last time SH beat DB. Yes, DB is losing two of the best athletes they have had in a while, but Science Hill is losing their fair share as well. Someone very close to the SH program told me that he expected them to be down next year.

  9. Thanks LGVOL,WTL AND EVERYONE ELSE! , for the compliments and the prayers. UPDATE just left MOC , MRI results were very good , ACL is intact but has a bad bone bruise from the hyper extension. PRAISE GOD! He is on a game schedule only until further notice pending treatment. Once again Haden is very thankful for all the prayers and well wishes. Most of all thank you JESUS!

    That's incredible news!

  10. Airport Motor Mile Kickoff Classic. You play Maryville one year and Alcoa the next. Next year the double header should be at Maryville High School. The bad part is you are away 2 years in a row. The good part, I believe they pay some expenses. The last two years were Cleveland and Webb.

I think that could be a good thing if Maryville and Alcoa would travel to Kingsport the two years after the Airport Classic. It wouldn't be worth giving up home games without one in return.

  11. Well, yall still got some solid players coming back. Was impressed with your stars last night. Wish yall the best up yonder there in NE TN!

Thanks.I was very proud of the effort, but just came up short. I guess the last 42 teams that have played Maryville would say the same thing. I think last night could be a real positive for these young men returning next year for them to work even harder in the off season. Maybe we will get a chance to see the Wildcats next year. I'm hoping that game can be added back to the schedule if possible. I wish Oak Ridge the best of luck as well, unless they are playing the Tribe. haha.

  12. What does DB have coming back next year? Kids like #6 and #8 don't come around often.

Obviously, there are some huge shoes to fill with #6, #8, and #88 graduating with a handful of other senior starters. This has been a great group of seniors. 4 of the 5 O-line will be back. Zach Casey the fullback will be back. Nick Sensaubaugh #74 will be back. He is a monster on the d-line and played some O-line the last few games. Sure, there are some big time players leaving, but I don't think the cupboard is bare. We'll have to wait to see how it plays out.

  13. Hope DB can pick up a couple heavyweights. Maryville would be my first choice. Then Oak Ridge, Bearden, Knox West, or Alcoa. Win or lose, tougher competition would be a plus for the program.

I hope DB can renew the Oak Ridge rivalry. I loved those games. I would like to see the Maryville game as well. Can you imagine hom many people would be at J. Fred for that?

  14. DB might have some growing pains over the in the next couple of years.I hope there is enough talent from the different classes to limit that.

There have been a few times where I thought this, but then DB was better than I expected. GC usually gets the young guys to step up when they need to. They may not be at the same offensive caliber, but I'm excited about #35 running the ball next year. I like the way he plays football.

  15. Where's the love, you're correct on both parts. The '93 game was Sam Haynie (South's HC now) and Jeremy Osborne's class. Osborne went on to Furman, Haynie to ETSU. And the '05 game was Bo Burton (who I kept up with as long as I could while he played baseball at ETSU) at QB for D-B and Curt Phillips (then a sophomore, who had the only TD for us that night) at QB for South.

And yes, it was a missed XP. That still haunts our class to this day. And we don't let our kicker forget it (in a good natured way). But he's a good sport about it.

That night sucked. But it's produced a ton of laughs since.

I am friends with Jeremy. He is a great guy. I bet you do give Kevin a hard time. I felt really bad for Jake who fumbled once or twice. He was a heckuva football player who just had a bad night. I'm glad to finally see Curt get his shot at Wisconsin.

  16. I'm not stirring a pot. Those tweets were a year ago. Before I was paid to be objective (and before I covered Blount County football for a living). And I don't hate Graham Clark. What I did hate, though, was he and D-B beating the crap out of South every year. But that has nothing to do with him. What number is the win streak at for D-B over South now? You guys probably don't keep up with that number because it's a non-factor for y'all. But we kept up with it like it was religion (it was at 13, I think, when we lost 7-6 in '05). Like I said before, those were jabs at the kids I grew up with and played with/against. Stirring the pot then? Sure, but that was between friends. Stirring the pot now? No way. Don't care what happens Friday night, as long as it happens before deadline. Apologies if you took offense.

Thanks. By no means, did I take offense. I was just curious. I can understand. I can't stand Steve Spurrier, but I don't have a great reason other than he has pretty much owned UT for the better part of 20 years. From what I understand, the last South victory was in 1993. I was at the '05 game. That night I thought South was going to win. Two fumbles in the red zone and a missed extra point did you guys in. If memory serves me correctly, that was the debut of Bo Burton into the Indians offense as QB.
