  1. Congratulations Lexington on the win over Marshall County! As a prize for winning you get to face... David Lipscomb.

Not much of a prize is it?

David Lipscomb is there same dominant self on defense this year. The offensive line is smaller and less experienced than in the past as our the runningbacks, so the run game may not be as dominant (although Officer is turning it on lately). However, Simpson at quarterback is a threat and that Rogers kid is back playing ball...

Not a good forcast for Lexington.

  2. Nice Region 5 rematch. There is friction between these teams that will make the rematch a dandy I'm sure.

The bad news for Giles Co. is that it is tough to beat a good team twice.

The bad news for Page is that the rematch is on the road and Bo Wallace is not Giles County's only weapon.

  3. Spring Hill is headed in the right direction. They showed progress and got better as the year went on. They can do a lot to help themselves in the offseason. Every player on that team needs to add weight, strength, and speed. I am sure Coach will have a plan to do it... the players need to commit to the work.

  4. Lexington is happy to be back in the playoffs and hosting a game to make it even better.

The problem is that they play a tough Marshall County team.

Marshall County went to west Tennessee last year in similar circumstances and beat the #2 seed Southside Hawks. So, Marshall County already knows what it takes in terms of preparation and focus.

The Tigers have several weapons in their spread offense. Morris has had a great year at quarterback rushing and throwing for big yardage and accounting for several touchdowns. Braden is the slashing tailback that can break it long from anywhere on the field. At receiver: Tears, Tedijewski, and Peterson are all dynamic targets. Peterson has the size and speed to make him very dangerous but has been slowed by a leg injury. The offensive line is solid.

Defensively, the Tigers are not as scary. The have a huge defensive tackle, Murphy. However, they have given up points this year. Marshall County's secondary contains those same players that play on offense... which makes them solid back there... they have been known to give up yardage to teams that run well.

I like the roadwarriors from Marshall County in this one.

  5. McNairy Central has a tradition of being a solid team year in and year out. Last year they had an outstanding team but ended up as the four seed and had to play Lipscomb in the first round.

I am a little surprised with how well they finished after losing a lot of starters from last year.

They will have their hands full with the Bobcats from Giles County.

Giles County has a powerful offense. They have several ball carriers that they go to including the Houston brothers, Smith, and the QB Wallace. Wallace is a gamer on both sides of the ball where he picked off three passes last game. The line of scrimmage for Giles County on both sides of the ball is very strong. The offensive line loves to grind right at you, while the defensive line is difficult to block.

Giles County does have weaknesses. There big play receiver is out with an injury and the defense in general and secondary in particular has been inconsistent. Their kicking game is just average.

If McNairy is able to play the kind of ball that got them here... they will be able to play with them.

I am going to go with the Bobcats!........ the homestanding Bobcats that is!

  6. I think Station Camp has a good shot to go all the way. They are a solid team and the game they had with White House proves it. White House also has a good shot to go all the way. They are solid as well. Personally, I would like to see the rematch and then see Station Camp win it this time.

Who knows who they would meet in the semifinals without Fulton representing this year. Catholic has a tendancey to choke.

In the final, It could be a team from the west. No disrespect to Lipscomb, but injuries have hurt their chances this year. They are certainly beatable.

Station Camp and White House might be the game for the Gold Football!

  7. I wish Catfish were available to give me all the Region 5 vs. Region 6 stats over the last three years!

In my mind Region 5 has come out on top, but I am not sure that the numbers say the same thing... especially if you throw out Lipscomb's dominance. Of course Lipscomb will win, but what about the other games? I think they will all be relativley close games that both teams will say they had a shot at winning.

What about Page's chances? I like their chances a lot. I would say they have a 50/50 shot of pulling off the upset. First, they are well coached. They have good schemes and techniques on offense, defense, and the kicking game. Second, the kicking game itself will be an advantage to Page. Rion is rare find at kicker & punter. Most teams don't have someone with his leg strength. He can really work field position and legitametly hit a 50yd field goal. Third, Page has enough playmakers on offense. Blake Neel and Taylor Lankord have been good for several years. This year, Wisdom, Grimes, Capps, and Machasi (?) are other weapons that make the attack more diverse and harder to stop. Finally, the defense has gotten better. The Patriots are playing physical team defense. They are not overwhelming by any means, but they aren't a liability either.

And Southside's chances? Southside should feel good about their chances. They get to play at home... with a home crowd and officiating. Page has to make the long trip... distractions and all. If they have superior athletes to Page... like they should... they might win. The games that Page lost this year were basically because they got out atheleted.

I still think a heady play from Page (maybe a surprise onside kick) will be the deciding factor in an upset win over the Hawks.

  8. I would like to know the status of Rogers. If he plays then it will be a rather easy (standard) 35-7 Mustang victory. If Rogers doesn't play it will be a tougher 35-7 victory. Yes, the score will be the same either way (McAdams doesn't run the score up). With Rogers the starters will only have to play the first four minutes of the second half; without Rogers the starters will only get to sit the last eight minutes of the game. I know it sounds a little bit arrogant or that I am not giving Chester their respect, but this is really how it will go down.

  9. an inconsistant secondary against marshall county's skill players is a bad combination. but so is marshall's weak run defense against giles' backs...... gonna be a barn burner

I agree. Going to be a good game. Don't forget that Columbia beat Giles County but lost to Marshall County. I would also say that Marshall County on offense looks similar in scheme and talent to a Columbia team that put up 42 points on the Bobcats. Something to think about.

Then again, Columbia beat Giles and lost to Marshall last year. Giles won easily last year.

Against the region opponents Giles probably won more easily than Marshall County did in most games. Marshall County has won several close games... particularly at the start of the year. This could mean that the Tigers are inconsistent or it could mean that they are comfortable in close games.

The questions will be answered tomorrow night.

  10. Congrats to the Patriots! I am not surprised of the Page victory but I am surprised that it happened by twenty. The Page defense must have played really well.

Congrats to the Cubs and staff for another strong year. Every team that plays Cheatham County respects how they play the game... hard nosed... the way football is meant to be played. The playoffs won't be the same with out you... I'm sure that will provide plenty of motivation for the offseason. As long as Finley is in charge, I bet Cheatham returns to the playoffs next year.

  11. This one will be close despite what the other experts on here think.

Both offenses' strengths match up well with the opposing defenses' weakness. As stated already, Marshall County has passed the ball well and Giles has not defended the pass well... expect Marshall County to put up some points. Also, Giles county has run the ball well while Marshall County has not defended the run very well... expect Giles County to put up some points. In short, both teams have average defenses that get bailed out by their good offenses.

I think both offenses will play well. It is going to come down to whichever defense can force the most turnovers or punts.

I like Giles at home. Should be a great game.

  12. Cheatham brings the physical play and will be able to move the ball on offense. Page has improved on defense but I still expect the Cubs to get plenty of yardage by grinding the ball right at the Patriots. That will open up a couple of play-action passes by Potts to open receivers that may or may not make the play. I look for the Cubs to put up 14-21 points.

Cheatham defensively will lay some licks. Batts will put several people on their back throughout the course of the game. Unfortunately for the Cubs, they don't tend to play well against well coached spread offenses. Page is well coached and has enough playmakers to keep Cheatham guessing. Also, Cheatham does not tend to play well against the pass... particularly the deep ball. Look for Neal to by time and find open receivers down the field. I look for the Patriots to put up 21-28 points.

Turnovers and penalties will be critical in this match up between even teams. Whoever hurts themselves the least in these areas will have the upper hand for sure.

Page has an advantage in the kicking game. Rion might find himself kicking the game winner.

Sorry Catfish, I think Page is the wrong match up for your cubs. The Patriots in a close one on their home field!

  13. If the D steps up the Hill will take this one

I agree totally. The offense has been good all year and has improved as the year has gone on. The defense has also improved but was terrible to start the year and have improved to only being bad. If they improve this week it might be enough to beat another team that is not quite playoff caliber. Come on D... let's get it going!

  14. Oh! Catfish,

Are you implying that Creekwood overlooked the Cubs last year!

If they did go to that game that was a big mistake. They certainly need to prepare for the Cubs or work on their own game more... I would start by practicing ball security!

    I did miss you this week. I thought you'd done gone into "CoachT Retirement" or something..... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Creek Wood, like Spring Hill, is not as "bad" as one would think just by looking at their record. They can move the football on offense. They can go double slot and run a similar form of the option that Paul Johnson has ran at Georgia Southern, Navy, and now Georgia Tech. They can get in the "I" as well as the "Stack I" and run right over you. They can also get in the spread and fling it around the yard. Caleb Bell & Kimo Odom are a couple of versitile players that can present problems out of the backfield. Blaine Hooper is a solid player at QB.

Creek Wood was not projected to finish above Cheatham Co. in the preseason for no reason at all. They are a quality football team. They took Marshall Co. to the wire. They were down 14-0 to Page with less than two minutes to go in the first half UNTIL a missed tackle and a couple of turnovers resulted in 21 very quick points from the Patriots. That made a 14-0 game a 35-0 blowout within the blink of an eye. Creek Wood also played Fairview to a very tight battle. They got trounced by David Lipscomb..........BUT..........that's no different from anyone else right?????

I expect this to be a very competitive game between two bordering teams......AS IT ALWAYS HAS BEEN /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Are the Creek Wood coaches going to watch Jackson South Side play Bolivar Central tomorrow night?????? I know they went last year.......... JSS is the likely #1 seed out of 6-3A and the #4 seed from 5-3A will have to go there to open the playoffs.
