I've given this statement some thought and I don't agree with it. I attached the link to each school's schedule to their names above respectively. If anything, they are even, but I don't believe that. Yeah, Cordova scored 41 on Lausanne, but how good is Lausanne's D? Then you throw in the fact that Bartlett held them to one TD. Cordova struggled to score against Central. They beat Germantown by 1 point 21-20. South Planola held them to 13.

According to the Shelby Metro Sportsblog website, through 5 games, WH is averaging 25.4 ppg while Cordova is averaging 19 ppg.

I give the edge offensively to WH.

I agree, they are about even, but we can argue about how good is Hamilton's D. IJS. I think it is going to be a good hard fought game. Much different from the games in recent past. Mentality is changing. Looking forward to tonight.

What do you attribute to the inconsistency?

Culture. Going through a culture change. So discipline and details are a big thing with this team. When they do it right, it looks good (First half of Germantown; Lausanne) . When they do their own thing, it is bad (South Panola; Bartlett). Focus has been really good this week, so we will see when they jump in the fire.

Ok, let's look at some data. According to the Shelby Metro Sportsblog website WH is ave 25.4 ppg while CHS is ave 19. WH's 'D' is giving up on ave 6.0 ppg while CHS is giving up on ave 21.4.

I'm going with an Over/Under of 31, WH by 24.

Well if you look at the data, and you take out the anomaly (Hamilton for Whitehaven and South Panola for Cordova). The data is a little different. WH ave 19.3 ppg and CHS 22.3. WH's D gives up 6.75 ppg while CHS gives up 17 ppg. Don't let the data make you think this is going to be a cake walk. 24 points, I don't think so. CHS by 14.

  4. A wounded dog is very dangerous. The sub par performance Friday has made a difference in focus. I told you coach has been trying to change the mindset of Cordova. Mediocrity has been acceptable there for a while. Having a winning record in the regular season has been good enough, but Cordova has never beaten Whitehaven (maybe 15 years ago). Coach had to suspend 4 players last week for not following team rules. 2 were starters on D, another was the punter, and the long snapper. We hate to lose, but sometimes losses like the one at Bartlett help drive your point home so much faster. Culture change takes a little time. Takes more than just X’s And O’s to be a winning program. When Saulsberry started at Whitehaven, I don’t believe they were winning 7,8, or 9 games a year. Coach had to do the same thing at East. Said all of that to say this, I believe Friday will be the defining turning point in our program. There will be a much better product on the field this Friday. This will be a very good game between 2 of the top teams in this city.

Kwc - here are my thoughts . Speed kills! I think Córdova wins by 2-3 touchdowns easy nothing against my alma matter but Córdova d is legit and has proved me wrong this whole season ! Pack of wolves -‘y’all have the two studs at wr still our secondary won’t Be able to keep up with it . Y’all have played the better schedule of course ! Either way Gluck to both teams !

Hey, you guys have some good young talent. I see a new energy that the new coach has inspired. We cannot take this game lightly. Central would have been a much different game if it were not for the defensive scores. The future is bright for Bartlett, just don’t want to be the team that sparks that light too fast. Good luck to you guys.

  6. All region games are very important. This is the first one for our region and our most important to date. Bartlett looks as though they have some athletes. I believe they are still young and still trying to figure it out. We can't relax because they can score quickly with some of those speedsters they have. A good solid defensive performance is needed. Looking for the offense to keep improving. The QB was 10 for 13 with two TDs this past Friday. Once we get consistent in the passing game with our receivers, we will be a dangerous bunch.

  7. Really, the breakdown was not on offense, it was the D. We were not disciplined at all in the South Panola game. It was a great eye opener to the players that they have to do things the right way to be successful against good teams. We are trying to change the culture at Cordova from just being satisfied with winning games you are supposed to win to a championship mentality. We all know there is a distinctive difference. So I look for the defense to play a lot better this week. The offense is figuring it out. They are getting better each week. Good test tomorrow. Will see what improvements have been made and where we are lacking. 10 practices for 5 games. That is coaches motto this year.

Alright @PackOfWolves, how do you feel about the one?

Well I feel good about it. We got complacent in last weeks game, coupled with a little home cooking. The kids have to learn to put their foot on their neck. Coach was disappointed we didn’t score 42. Left a lot of plays out there. Too many penalties and mistakes (muffed punt, bust a coverage on last play of half, etc). Anyway, South Panola looks to be the most physical team we have faced. Not a difficult offense. Have to be solid from start to finish. Offensively, have to open it up. Have playmakers to get the ball to. Coach feels he got too conservative last week as well. Only threw the ball 7 times. Need more balance. This will tell a lot about where the team is.

I got this one right. Could be a long year for Germantown.

They have a lot of talent! We should have never let them back in the game. Easily could have been 28-0 at half but with some mistakes at the end, gave up a hail mary TD. 21-7 at half. We got complacent. Got to get that killer instinct. They have talent. 6A will be real interesting down the stretch.

How accurate is this depiction @PackOfWolves?

It is pretty accurate. We had a dangerous team last year, but didn't have enough leadership and mental toughness to do anything with it. So the focus has been on mental toughness, buying into the process, leadership, accountability, etc. This is why the schedule is what it is. You can't run from these teams if you want to be champions. Plus you have to figure out what it takes to win. Cordova is a young school (20 years), and we have not established a championship tradition or culture yet. Yes, we have won a few games in the past, but how many of significance? This is what coach is trying to instill. Toughness, confidence, pride, etc. A different mentality. Mediocrity will not be accepted. It is a measuring stick each week. Evaluate, correct, get better. We feel like we are much better than most people think. No, we are not the most talented team in 6A, but the key word is TEAM. We will see what happens.

What's up @PackOfWolves. It's good to finally get some Cordova flavor in this joint.

True, you guys have a lot of big games on the schedule. None bigger then this one.

We're you at last week's game at Crump? If so, give us your assessment of that game and your team. I think a lot of folk don't know exactly what to think. What's going on? Enlighten us.

Well, we feel since we don’t have any BIG names, that people are just writing us off. We didn’t play well vs Central. We had 4 turnovers and 15 penalties. Not typical for a Wimberly coached team, but we pulled out the win. Coach feels like in we eliminate the mistakes, along with some other small but crucial things, that game is not close. Germantown, a lot of unknowns, so it is hard to say. We just want to get better each and every week, so when the playoffs hit, we will be ready for anybody. We just have to earn our respect, which is fine with us.

No sir, I'm talking funny scoreboard operations, favorable spots, missed and Phantom calls

It is what it is when you play certain teams. You have to play through it and overcome it. Unfortunately, part of the game. You know it going in, so don't use it as an excuse. This is a big early season game and will give the winner momentum. We have big games throughout the schedule, so we literally must take it one game at a time.

So fellas ... are we talking a bunch of points scored or low scoring game? I think a low scoring game favors Central. A high scoring game favors Cordova.

kwc, I believe you are correct with your assessment. A low scoring game does favor Central. When Cordova scores 21 points or more, it will favor Cordova. I have a sneaky suspicion that special teams will come in to play in this game. Playoffs

Thanks... I have only seen Central play and those points you guys have given up to Pearl-Cohn the last few years always scares me. But I'm sure that is a matchup thing.  Central cannot throw the ball much at all, but I really like their size. Just a matter of time before they put it together.

Hey, you see what happened to us last year. So, I don't think we will take them lightly. As for our defense, it depends on which team decides to show up. Some games we looked very good against the run, but other games, TERRIBLE! I think this is one of the better match-ups in the first round. Good entertaining game.

I like Central in this game. Bad draw for Cordova. I think it will be a low scoring affair with Central coming out on top 19-13.

You are right! We have shown to be weak, at times, defensively where they are strong offensively. They run to the ball well on defense but will give up the big play, especially in the passing game because they commit so many bodies to the run. It is going to be interesting to see if they can keep up with our offense which has improved drastically since we played Houston. If we play good run defense, this could be a very good day for us. I know they will have to score more than 19 points to beat us.
