Not sure if you are a SP fan, it doesn’t matter either way as I assume you do not know these kids, their parents, or coaches on a personal basis, but it is concerning that someone is willing to make such remarks about people they don’t know. I read the articles, they were written months ago, there’s nothing in them that supports any accusations of wrong doing. I do have one question, why is this so upsetting to SP fans?

Chill out man - Tomorrow night will be electric! This is a crazy message board- folks talking and rattling cages  - if there is nothing to it just move on  it’s a freaking message board lol

Good  luck to both teams! Both fan bases have watched a scoreboard be lopsided all season - be good to see a good close game for all. Hoping we all get there safe and leave safe

    Article from a East Tennessee Newspaper;

Summer Workouts by Maryville QB with Greenback Coach and former players

Moving to a new school just before senior year can be tough. Moving and trying to replace one legend while being coached by another could be disastrous.

Greenback is a tight-knit community, as well, but social media helped Braden Carnes break the ice there.

“I looked on (Carnes’) Twitter when I found out he was coming,” Greenback receiver Holden Willis said. “One of the top things on his Twitter was a 60-yard bomb he threw at a camp, right on the money. I was like ‘Dang. Well if he’s coming, we’ll take him.’”

Now with good friends and excellent mentors, Carnes seems to have made a smooth transition in his move from Maryville.

The on-field help of Willis and other teammates, along with mentoring from two of the greatest quarterbacks in school history, has helped Carnes be well on his way to breaking several records.

More importantly, Carnes is leading Greenback into the second round of the TSSAA Class 1A state playoffs with hopes for a return to Cookeville for its fifth championship game appearance. The Cherokees play host to region foe Coalfield at 7 p.m. Friday.

Greenback runs a complicated and unique offense. Carnes was assisted with new schemes over the summer by one of the best operators of that offense, last year’s quarterback Bryce Hanley.

Now playing baseball at Carson-Newman, Hanley was the 2018 Class 1A Mr. Football and led Greenback to deep playoff runs including a state title in 2017.

“It’s hard to come in and try to take over a team, especially when the last quarterback was Mr. Football,” Carnes said. “But (Hanley) helped me a lot over the summer and this fall. He’s really helped me learn the offense a lot quicker.”

Coming from outside meant not having a deep knowledge of Greenback football tradition, but Hanley and coach Greg Ryan got Carnes up to speed quickly.

Ryan was also a Greenback quarterback, finishing his Cherokee career in 1992 with eight state passing records. Ryan went on to star at East Tennessee State University, where he still holds virtually every team passing mark.

The tutoring by all the greats would mean nothing if Carnes didn’t have the right teammates.

And he is surrounded by weapons.

Carnes has already set school records for total yardage in the air (3,131) and for touchdown passes in a season (45). Seven receivers have hauled in scoring strikes, but the chief Cherokee is Willis.

The two seniors worked over the summer to gain familiarity. Willis, already the all-time Greenback reception leader, is moving quickly up the standings in state records for touchdown catches.

Willis had one touchdown grab in last week’s 51-6 undressing of Unaka. That reception, his 24th this season, moved him into third place overall in state records. Two more receptions put him into a tie with leader Nathan Johnson, who set the record at Independence in 2015.

His 40 career touchdown receptions have Willis currently with the sixth-best record in Tennessee history.

The records are more impressive considering Greenback had six lopsided victories with the clock running continuously in the second half and Carnes, Willis and other starters on the sidelines.

And Greenback is by no means a pass-crazy offense. While the 3,131 passing yards account for most production, Greenback has added 1,184 yards on the ground. In the win over Unaka, leading rusher Wyatt Ruterson ran for 126 yards with three scores and an 18 yard-per-carry average.

Carnes and Willis are excited to pursue the records but have a bigger goal in mind.

“There’s a lot more than breaking the record,” Willis said. “Touchdowns help on the field more than they do in the stat book. I’d rather have one touchdown and win the game than have 10 and lose it.”

Greenback continues its quest for a third state championship against a Region 2-1A foe it defeated 45-20 in the regular season.

Record alert: Carnes threw for five touchdowns in that game.

Whatever man. There was zero wrong doing in Mr. Carnes transfer. Old Butt Pirate Knows it, Roy likes the D knows it and you know it. It's all by the rules, you got a problem with the rules petition to change them. I am done with this crap. I can't believe that the biggest game of the year is here and all you choades can talk about is this crap.

So if your coach broke the rules would you admit it? Nope

I assume your all one big happy family - Call him and ask did he work with him in the summer? Lol This is Hilarious- kids had spots earned and your coach went out and got folks to take their spot lol . So much confidence in his team he Admitted in the articles GB had nothing that Oliver Springs was going to be the team to beat- ha Oliver Springs lol that’s like saying Sale Creek on this side. That’s saying man my team sucks - Smh why would those kids parents allow that crap . A coach putting in the paper my team  sucks lol

Just throwing this out there...No ADULT should be engaging in a argument with a HIGH SCHOOL KID over a football game. I don’t care if you’re from SP or GB, that kind of behavior is totally unacceptable!
If that was my son/daughter you’d be seeing me face to face! Grow up and at least act like the ADULT you’re supposed to be!

You got that right ! Spot on !

  8. Below post was Taken from Greenback Meigs Board-
All we have to do is look back to 2015 and Columbia Academy when they came to our house. They had an outstanding D-1 WR who tore everyone up until they get came to GB,we shut him down and went to the Championship a week after they throttled South Pitt.We have to get a run game going and it all starts abd ends up front!Against Loudon we couldnt do much of either and we got whipped.

You dont have to apologize to me.Heckk i have done the same thing. But these kids, coaches and fans from Two of the MOST TRADITION riched teams in 1A football deserve this week of football. Our stands are small and honestly its embarrassing that a team like ours cant get the funding to make our Semi final visitors somewhat comfortable.Lets face it its more than adequate for 13 weeks but it needs to be upgraded for teams like SP,i want the place PACKED!This has the potential to be one if not the  HOTTEST venues in Tenn this week! Its going to be crazy!

Oh and the Twitter, facebook fiascos is why i dont have either.Coacht is my social media.Sad i know but thats about all i can handle.:roflol:

Good Post! I don’t get on like I used too , just every now and then. I think truthfully fans feels disrespected not because the seating but more so the trucks issue where because their is no seating and then they are occupying that space. And then being told to move. It makes for an environment that is very explosive off the field taking away from what’s happening on the field. Me I just stood right in the midst rooting for my team in 2017 and got a few looks but heck is what it is. Transfers or not every team sees them now and then may the best team win! Just hope we can all keep the mouthing to a minimum and the action between the whistles. Play hard and play smart Pirates! Good luck everyone!

  10. While patronizing a local business in Whitwell  this weekend, Here is a quote I heard "We will expose them Friday night for the overrated team they are- they were just plain lucky round 1 and they know it. They are worried and should be because their season ends Friday night - we will pounce on the P in the middle of the field then silence the cannon and their stands just watch"

  11. Nope, won most competitions I had against Sp as a matter fact, but that's besides the point. Lol I'm just not "down" with having felons on a high school field. Idk if you are aware but when you break laws your rights are taken away. This situation seems as bad as the Brock Turner case so far.

your ignorance supersedes you- you have rights until your found guilty ! Ever heard the phrase let the world think your stupid but don't open your mouth and prove it to them? Apply it moving toward it will help
  12. Most people go with the "wait till next year line". Lol, now your going with the "enjoy the next 4 line". 🤔.....I'm sure the talent won't be that one sided for the next couple years anyway. However, if that' ends up being the case alot can change in 5 years. Hopefully after that we can get back our former players and coaches if not then there is plenty of talent from South Pittsburg to split up and let some go North but remember once a Pirate always a Pirate. My question is will you guys run off your coach if he struggles some? I hope that's not the case but in years past after a couple bad years the HC gets always canned then a Principal seems to follow. I really hope not the case as the MC coach there now is one of the most genuine guys I've ever shook hands with. Hard not to pull for him a little. Atleast when your not playing the Pirates anyways. 😎

say what you want no coach will be able to keep head coaching job at Jasper and lose 4 straight years to SP - nope it ain't happening
