QUOTE(sccr11 @ Mar 30 2007 - 12:07 PM) 826426567Just because you are a club player does not make you a quality player. We could debate all day long why Brothers lost the last two state championship games, and many would argue that they were the better team all around, but were only beat by a team that was better that particular day, and if the teams were to play ten times, brothers might win 7 of the ten games.
I would like to know the weaknesses and strengths of the team this year.
Experience is definitely a strength. Starters logged big minutes over the last two years. Not as deep as in the past, but can still hurt you with the first two or so off the bench. Keeper is huge.
The back to back runnerups are talked about, but not three years ago. Upset by somebody in an early round. And remember--last they they went o shootout in the first round last year.
May not be the coach. I don't know. Players don't need to likethe coaches, but they aught to respect them. Maybe that is not happening there?

QUOTE(hsbaseballfan03 @ Mar 30 2007 - 11:37 AM) 826426540I don't know alot about Coach Lima, but back to back state runner up is horrible. I realize its not back to back state champions but like i said its not a bad finish. What little I know about Coach Lima he seems like a pretty good guy and i never got the impression he was cocky at all.
There are a lot of people, players and parents that say the last three teams CBHS had were the best in the state. Maybe memphis people are wrong. Do other teams have so many club players try out that some club players can't even make the freshman, JV or varsoty teams?

The West is down this year---way down (at least in the Memphis area. MUS lost to CBHS 0-5 last night, but MUS is horrible. ECS has no seniors. St. Benedict is its usual self. The west is so week that Harding only lost to CBHS 0-3 and St. George's might qualify for state. Brirecrest lost Bartels but still tied CBHS.
The CBHS players look they do not want to be there. Are any Jackson teams in D2 or are they in another classification?

CBHS has replaced the natural grass in the stadium with artificial turf--the long blade type with rubber particle fill.
Anyone have experience with this surface?
Wondering how it affects ball movement and if the heat becomes a factor.

Some of the MFC 90s startrers are the guys who quit CBHS, and they are playing with Bute for the spring. Garrett played with them along with some 92s, and they did well in the last two tournaments over the last two weekends.

QUOTE(cbusoccer13 @ Mar 28 2007 - 10:19 AM) 826424794I am not sure when CBHS and Houston stopped playing. I am not sure why they wouldn't play each other. We played each year that I was in school at Houston but CBHS never came close.
Our team was very good our junior and even better our senior year. The club issue is something else. We were a bunch of kids from West TN that played against a bunch of kids from East TN. They hammered us in the state club finals and there is nothing else you can say. We were fortunate enough to play together in high school and keep our chemistry. The following year as U19's we all played together in Regionals and advanced out of our bracket (but nothing more). We have all gotten together over the years at soccer events and outings put on across the state and we talk about the past. It is always good for a laugh!
We always talk about our Houston team like the Dolphins in the NFL. Every year we hear that there was no undefeated team, we are like "Another year!" It is fun to hold a record for 6 years.
Do you remember the breakdown of club players on those Houston teams?
And did Irby win a national title with the girls too?

They tied their first game vs Brirecrest, which does not speak well for CBHS. I heard some good players quit. They stuggle to score against good teams, so I don't think they are anything liek they used to be.

Houston and CBHS becuse Houston will not play them. The JV teams were supposed to play in the finals of the memphis JV tournament a few years ago and Houston didn't even show up for the game. The players want to play. Good teams should want to play good teams.

QUOTE(cbusoccer13 @ Mar 27 2007 - 03:19 PM) 826424173I played for the 2 time National Champs in 1999 and 2000 with Houston High School. Yes, we were ranked number 1 and there was no game that made us the champion but we were the only undefeated team in 2000 and we were the last AAA team to go undefeated in the state of TN. We proved that we deserved all the distinction winning the state semifinals 6-2 over an undefeated Bearden team and winning the finals 5-0. 1999: We did have 1 loss but we went to a tournament over Spring Break where we played teams from GA and SC which ended up in the top 10 in the ending national poll. We won 53 straight games and if you want to argue that it was not enough to be determined the national champions, you are out of your minds. There will never be a national championship tournament because of high school budgets and expenditures so you have to take what you can get.
What year did Houston stop playing CBHS? They should play--the CBHS coach is horrible. CBHS had 50 club players last year and couldn't win state.

I heard MFC 90s entered the 18U bracket and lost in tiebreaker. But somebody else said they lost in the 17u bracket
They are in the NCAA final Four tournament--what is uop with that team?

This is a place for discussion, right? You say he is a great coach, and maybe he is.
Because you say so? Are you speculating?
I didn't start anything. These things have been siad for several years.
No one is stopping you from shooting me down if i am wrong.
