Thank you coaches, wrestlers and fans who came out to Harpeth High School yesterday. We had 58 schools and clubs represented. I saw to outstanding wrestling from our boys and girls. It was also great to see some old friends and share some great stories. Thanks to the 6 TSSAA officials who were able to come and call the matches for us.

Hope to see everyone again real soon.

Thank you for having us coach. It was a very well ran tournament with quality wrestling. Hopefully this event will happen every year in the post season.

FYI, there is an option to ignore users like CaptainGuru. Click on your account name, and then click "ignored users".  You can then add this dummy to your ignored user list and never have to read a thing it posts.

The first user in the history of my forum adventures across many different platforms I've felt the need to ignore.

    Done! Thank you!;-)

Track has it listed as an inj def and no a dq despite the ref saying he’s done for arguing with him. Since it’s an inj def he’ll be allowed to wrestle

I was told the wrestler used a minute and twenty eight seconds of his injury time on his first one. He only had two seconds left for the second injury time. If he wasn't ready to go he had to default.

I was just trying to see if there was a significant change to the rule book then the previous book. I’m guessing we would be using the current rule book for this coming school season. I hope this answers your question. Thank you for asking.

Yes sir. It did. Thank you.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages..Bump11 proudly brings to you…his 2023 T$$AA state championship tournament previews and predictions!

I will do my very best to go a little in depth at every weight class and give you my personal predictions, as well as some potential bracket busters (guys who are not currently ranked, even if they had been ranked previously) and matches to watch. It will take me a couple of days to get them all up but i will try to do a couple here and there as i have time

Disclaimer: These are solely my opinion on the brackets. And while i will stay unbiased, being in middle TN, i only get to watch guys around here for the most part, outside of the top guys elsewhere. If i miss someone that could be a dark horse from the west or east, it is simply because i do not have as much knowledge on the lesser known commodities outside of Middle TN. With that being said, please bear with me if i miss anyone! And as always, if you don’t like it, feel free to give your own personal predictions!

Hey Bump just curious who you are.  I've seen your posts on here for many years. I do enjoy the predictions myselph :)

Unnecessary roughness is the appropriate call for an illegal slam.... This tourney was voluntary so no money for the refs.... You could bring the wrestler back to the mat like a baby.... But if his head hits the mat excessively, it's illegal, and the offensive wrestler didn't do his job..... Offensive wrestlers Coach yanked him up immediately after the slam and scolded him intensely..... Yeah it was unnecessary roughness.

I miss you bro. Crazy this thread coming back around 10 years later and me seeing you here defending one of our own. BRADley D. Selph

Adrian Norfleet lost a couple of times his sophomore year but still won the state.  A side note was that Adrian finished 3rd (lost by 1 point to the champion) in the USA Wrestling Junior Nationals (there was not a Cadet and Junior Division, everyone was together) after his sophomore year.  It is my understanding that he never made a return trip to the USA Wrestling Junior Nationals.  He was trained by the great Tony Rowland, so Tony would have all of the details.

He was so fast! His speed was unmatched at the time.

I’m not gonna make excuses for kids missing weight, one of the 14 was one of mine. I’m also not gonna claim that all 14 missed weight because I don’t know if that is the case.

What I will say is 30 minutes between doors opening and the beginning of weigh in doesn’t leave a kid much time to run off the extra if he’s heavy. Seems like years past you could see kids running before weigh ins. This year there wasnt much time or room to run and the weigh ins seemed rushed.

Maybe an hour between would be better suited for the ones without access to a scale.
Otherwise I believe the TSSAA did a good job considering what they were up against.
I was not present for the other sessions so I don’t know if they experienced the same thing. Anyone have input

I'm not sure if its input but I will say, that its against NFHS rules to " run off" or preform any weight cutting activities on site. That should be done safely and at home. Not where wrestling is scheduled to take place. If seen by an official your son would be ineligible to wrestle that event.

Tre spent 6 less minutes on the mat so his wins were more dominant.  Quick pins are better than less quick pins. It isn't Tre's fault that Cockman, fourth at 145 last year, was defeated early and thereby depriving him of the opportunity to beat a prior medalist.   Willett, a returning medalist, missed weight.  Cody and Tre wrestled twin brothers in the finals with obviously similar abilities and Tre looked better by pinning Logan in 1 minute and 8 seconds (over two minutes faster than Cody pinned Landon).   Tre was simply more impressive in his victories than Cody was and my guess would be this is why he won.  There is something to blowing your opponents out of the water quickly and Tre did a better job of that in many people's eyes.   Having re-watched the matches Tre made it look easier, significantly so, than Cody did.  I don't think their opponents skill difference was enough to justify six extra minutes of mat time.

Additionally 152 was a bees nest with many, many good kids. Hurst,  Laxton, Ables, Brenot, Clemmons, etc.  Fisak dropped to 45 even with Chittum there.  If 160 was as easy as you claim why didn't any of them go to 160?  The reason was Tre Morrisette.

This Fowler is not a twin.

Willett did not miss weight. He blew out part of his lung the day b4 state and couldn't keep his oxygen levels up.

    Please get your facts straight.

And Cody would probably pin Tre in the 160 final, even with the bad knee. Might tech pin him. :roflol:

This is where I still have issue with Cody not getting the OW.  If you take Cody out of the Tournament, I think we would all agree that 45 was the 2nd toughest weight class behind 32.  Braxton ended up not placing in this bracket so that shows you how tough this weight was. If you add in Cody, then 45 was the toughest overall weight class at state.

Cody was the only state champ that had to defeat 3 returning medalist to win his title.  Again, he was the only State champ in the tournament to beat 3 returning medalist.  And, he was the only person to pin his way through the tournament.

I can see the argument that Bradford should have gotten it.  He did have to beat two returning state medalist in the 2nd toughest weight.  But, Bradford had two close decisions.

Tre I still don’t see. Tre didn’t beat a single returning state medalist and he didn’t pin his way through his bracket at a weight that objectively wouldn’t even be considered one of the top 8 toughest weights this year.

I still fail to see how what Cody accomplished wasn’t the most impressive performance at the tournament.  He PINNED everyone, he was the only Champ to beat 3 returning state medalist, and he did it in the toughest weight class at state this year.

His only negative was that he is so much better than everyone else at his weight he made it look to easy which ended up taking away from how impressive what he accomplished was.

Plus looked like he was wrestling on an injured knee.  I can see a good argument now for him getting it.:thumb:

It was an amazing year! We had wrestlers get multiple titles this year. We had...

Hunter Borders Wilson got his 3rd

Trey Bates Beech got his 3rd

Trae Mcdaniel Cleveland got his 3rd

Trey Morrisette  dobbyns got his 2nd

Mason Smith Beech got his 2nd

Ashton Davis Cleveland got his 2nd

I am sure there were a few more multiple winner.

Trae Mcdaniel Cleveland in my opinion should have won OW.  My wrestler Trey Bates beat Mcdaniel as a freshman at state finals... To my knowledge Mcdaniel has not lost a match to Tn. kid since then, including beating Bates in their jr. seasons.

Please don’t get on here and say i don’t think Morrisette should have got it. He is deserving yes, he is a Great wrestler and even better person. Any of the wrestlers on the list could have won it and no complaints...

The 106 match should definitely been best match. Also, a shout out to Fowler for winning against someone who has beat them previously.

Thoughts.. i always say the kid who loses first match and comes all the way back to get third is a tough dude. Think about that, He/she has extra matches and catches a semi finalist to advance... that is a tough spot to be in.

Tennessee wrestling is getting better, however, we still need to get out of state and see some national events. Lord knows there are plenty of opportunities for a wrestler. If you watch closely, you will see the names listed above and the medalist from Tn. wrestling and competing in national events.  If you want to compete at the state tournament, you got challenge yourself outside the state.

    Freestyle and greco is coming!

Shoot there are even folk style events to keep you sharp and improving.

Mat time, Quality mat time is the answer!!!

BINGO. someone finally said it..the key word here is IMPRESSED. Coaches vote on who went out and IMPRESSED them the most. Cody Chittum is a star, nobody is denying that..but the fact of the matter is Cody is EXPECTED to win. There’s nothing impressive about him “having a perfect score” because the playing field wasn’t fair. because it was EXPECTED of him. he was supposed to do that...the kid leaves tennessee to get better competition, comes back for ONE year and steals a state title (i’m using the word steak because the second he enrolled at cleveland he robbed any other 145 of any chance at winning a ship) and you wanna also give him MOW over kids who work their tails off to not only win a state title but represent tennessee? yes Tre’s performance was absolutely more impressive to an cody’s. Heck, i could argue that all 13 other state champs’ performances were more impressive. because they weren’t a guarantee win. they had to go through their brackets, some like murderers row (132, 152 to name a few) to win their title. everyone and their mom knew cody was gonna win, knew he was gonna pin his way through, and knew he’d get a perfect score. we all knew that...because he’s in another dimension. was he the best wrestler there, abso-freakin-lutely.  but the most outstanding tournament, the most impressive...no way. no freakin way. he did what he was supposed to do. there’s nothing impressive about the #1 kid in the country coming back for a year and winning a state title in the state of tennessee. I personally would’ve gone with Bradford. Coming through a gauntlet at 132 after what happened at state duals...that’s 100x more impressive and “Outstanding” than what Cody did. It’s not even close. Does Cody deserve to be called the best wrestler in TN, no doubt. but not to e most impressive at the state tournament. not the most “outstanding”

PERFECTLY said. I dont have hand clapping emojis to insert after your amazingly intuitive comment. But if I did they'd be here.....:thumb:
