  1. Siegel beat Antioch playing entirely zone last night. I recall them running a man defense in no more than 2 or 3 possessions.

Antioch's coaching just simply befuddled me. They seemed to be content with walking the ball up the floor and then had no clue how to attack Siegel's 2-3 zone. They simply stood around. On the few occasions they pushed the ball (not allowing Siegel's zone to get set), they were able to get good shots. Maybe they are just not a running team.

I have also been reading all about their 'suffocating 2-3 zone'. Well, at some point you have to realize you are behind and get out of your zone and go man. They never did. They allowed Siegel to pass the ball around and run out the clock. Siegel did an outstanding job at the end of the game.

As one of Coach Harris' biggest critics during the Oden-Ramsey years, I now have to believe he has to be considered the top coach in 7AAA. How can anyone argue? He has 3 state tourney appearances in 4 years. If I am not mistaken, the only other coach to reach the state in that time is Randy King (with 1 appearance). Doing it with Oden, Ramsey, Roper and Jones is one thing, but doing it with no superstars (I agree that Cutter is overrated) is strictly another.

Antioch was a running team for the last couple of years. If they would have pressed and trapped and made this game up-tempo they win easy. I have seen this team several times this year and I really have not seen any better talent on one basketball team since the Ernest Shelton years at White Station. Nollner is just so predictable, he has some success because he has been at whites creek with the best talent year in and out. Antioch had a cake walk all year since the area was way down this year. Nollner left alot of talent on the bench, playing his usual 7 players just like he did with the Cobras. He could have easily played 10 players and wore any team down. Antioch should of been State Champs this year. congrats to Seigal, hope they win it all.

  2. No you didn't Starfan /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I usually agree with you, but the fact that you would compare Antioch to White County is negligent. I've seen White County three times, Siegel five times, and Antioch seven times this year, and I can tell you, athletically (and yes there is more to the game than athleticism)..............White County has one guy who could start on Antioch's team. ONE!

    UNO!

    1!

And that's just real talk. And the notion of this Antioch team, whose two losses are to out of state teams that were both ranked in the national Top 25 at one point this season would finish third in 7-AAA is just dead wrong.

I'm a 7-AAA guy these days and I could tell you that Antioch might have lost one road game in that district, tops.

I think people are buying into this typical Metro Nashville rag tag athlete thought process, and it just doesn't hold water. Jim Nollner is a Vet, this ain't Dolla Store Crowder coaching this team. He'll have his boys ready to go from the jump.

Siegel is going to have to play their best game and Antioch is going to have to chip in by playing poorly for the Stars to win. Cutter and Gooch and Hammonds are going to have to score about 55 points between them. I just think Siegel has to play too fast paced to win this game. They want to run, but Antioch thrives in that game.

Nice post, However, The only difference between Nollner and store Crowder is that Crowder has State championship gold balls. Boy they could have used Crowders style of play tonight and probably would have beat The Stars like a drum like they did last year preseason.

  3. Ridgeway wins by 7pts....

    Thanks for another great prediction Icy. Your first one was a good one /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  4. I just think its funny that how all these years that the memphis teams have won it in triple a that everybody always congrats the winners and doesnt say anything about them winning and doesnt make excuses.this is the first time a team from the east has won it since science hill( unless you count white county as an east tn team) and you memphis and west tn boys just need to except it. quit your whining and your belly aching hech, east tn wins it in football every year and when a west tn team does win one nobody complains about it. was maryville winning the state tournament a fluke?? no. they are very well coached and are winners anyway because of their success in football. it will be along time before they have a chance at winning a state again but they did they have a gold ball. just shut up and except it. memphis will always be more talented and have better athletes than east tn and will always be able to reload every year unlike most east tn teams. a memphis team will probably win it next year and start another streak, but until next march, maryville are the state champs. let em enjoy it.

  5. I may be wrong, but i think the reason cutlip is wanting to leave the hill is because all of the pressure he has to deal with year in and year out. Pitts is one of the best coaches to ever coach high school basketball in tenn and the success he had at the hill has spoiled topper fans forever. To me, cutlip cant coach nowhere near as well as duncan of greeneville or even morgan of D-B. That hire had to be very political. Turner probably hired him so he would play his son and some of the kids that wouldnt get to play if bryan crowder coached there. crowder and some of the other coaches who applied would've played the best no matter which kids belonged to who. I do know that crowder's coaching can be off beat at times but he is a winner. the guy has turned two down programs completely around in the last six years whether hes had talent or not. I believe if crowder or even somebody like bill duncan had that job they would have had science hill in the state all three years, because they're winners, no matter how they do it. I do believe that if offered, duncan would take this job, but crowder wouldn't just on principle on how they shafted him last time when he applied. randy ferrel had a big part in crowder not getting the job because of his dislike of the crowder brothers(heard that from a source) But anyway the way i see it, is if science hill doesn't stop being so political in who they choose who their coach is going to be, they will never have success there like they have had in the past. And what somebody has already said in this post, i too heard that bryan crowder was going to leave antioch. That would be a crazy thing to do since he is returning most of his

29-8 team from this year, but there has to be a good reason for it.

  6. okay some of you guys are talkin reckless on here Antioch better than Whites Creek you cant be serious I saw Antioch play the other night against Franklin and Antioch almost got beat they play very selfish everybody wants to score, Michael McAdoo posts hard but the guards dont even look his way, without McAdoo Antioch would struggle but come on now im not trying to bag on Antioch but they shouldnt be that high in the polls now maybe a number 6 or 7 spot but not top 5 oh not at all i promise you mark my words MCGAVOCK will beat ANTIOCH and they will be the number 2 team in District 12AAA

    Top 10 MIDSTATE teams:

    1. Whites Creek- still has the talent to get back to the final four in the state

    2. Brentwood Academy- still has Brian Wright, Brandon Brown, Garrett, and Kottas the only team i see that can beat Whites Creek

    3.

Hey cobra,I seen both Antioch and Mcgavock play this year and if you ask me Antioch plays better as a team than them. kilcrease is the most selfish player in the conf. Woods is a player though but not any better than antiochs guard upton. plus mcgavock doesnt have much size and antioch does with mcadoo and number 31, dont know his name. im not downing mcgavock they're good, but not as good as antioch. but like you and hoops said, nobody can beat the cobras..... not even brentwood academy!!
  7. warners ankle was hurt so he didnt play, and antioch is missing their 4 football players.................nation supp99 what do you mean 60 points is a bit much though? the score was 93-33 i was there, and if you dont belive me look in todays tennesseean paper the score is in there

  8. no its true, i was there. smyrna didnt haved warner, but antioch didnt have mike mcadoo either, but i dont think it would've mattered. smyrna looked awful and antioch played really well, simple as that
