1. Monasses will no doubt close the door on Temple early. Temple does not have any other players to help Sexton. They have no real presence inside and that will be the biggest difference in this game. This Temple team is nothing like the one they had a couple of years ago with Sexton, Skogen, Newson and Smith. Buckner will probably dominate Montgomery and Johnson under the basket. In order for Temple to win Johnson has to be more physical under the basket, box out, rebound and score. This is the championship game. No time to relax, play with intensity and a lot of heart. Brandon Andrews and Kemp also need to step up their game in order to win the gold ball. Free throws will also be a crucial thing in this game. Temple needs to make their foul shots if they want to get the W.

As far as for the Mr. Basketball Award. It will probably go the a West Tennessee player again. Just like Skogen got the shaft a couple of years ago -- Sexton will too.

These thoughts are just my personal opinions and in no way am I intentionally trying to belittle anyone.

My hope is that this game will be a good game and injury free. Good luck to both teams and congrats to both to making it to the championship game.

  2. Did anyone see Terrance Oglesby "Ejection" from yesterdays game, he is such a punk!!! I remember seeing that kid play, and he is more arrogant that his little hobbit coach Ken"Sweater Vest" Smith. Oglesby elbowed one of our kids in the head at one of our freshman games, and our freshman coach was going nuts, and the bradley freshmen coach did nothing, kept the kid in the game. As you can he is a terrible sportsman, an could of seriously hurt that player last

night. He bitched an complained about ever call, and you see him swearing on national TV, what an ######. Does anyone else feel the same way? The only reason he is playing for Clemson is because his dad played with the coach.

He was not even recruited locally

? Wut duz tiz have 2 du wit Tenn High skool b-ball?

  3. Slim..May had ought to get your map out!As far as West Tenn. teams..Grace has beaten Temple a couple times this season I believe and Manassas had their way with them all game..Maybe the T.S.S.A.A. should have a draw for the sub-state games also instead of just the state..That way Union City..Lake Co..Scotts Hill etc. could all probably be in the State instead of beating each other..Just like last year when watching a couple teams..Lake Co was better than any of the teams Union City and Manassas played..This year Manassas kept Lake Co from going..Lake Co played them closer on Manassas's home floor..In years past Union City and Humboldt has kept Lake Co from having a chance to win State..This year it was Manassas..Can't win it if you're not there..Maybe Lake Co should just petition the TSSAa to be put in another region so at least they'll have the opportunity to at least play in the Boro..!

What does your post have to do with the Temple vs. Summertown game?

Temple was very fortunate they did not lose this game. Summertown showed a lot of heart in the end and deserves a lot of credit for playing a tough game against Temple. If Temple plays they way they did Wednesday and today they will not beat Monasses.

  4. Temple's free throws are down right ridiculous

    13-33 (39%)

    Are you kidding me?

    Final 64-50 (Temple)

    Hummbolt and Lake Co.?

  5. I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THAT THEY HAD A BASKETBALL TEAM. Is this who we are talking about?

    Chattanooga Grace Baptist

    Nickname: Golden Eagles

Coach:Jon Mattheiss, 20th season. 20yrs and never been to the state come on now be serious.

    School record: 26-5.

    Final AP ranking:Not ranked.

    State tournament history: First appearance.

    State titles: None.

Scouting report:Brandon Herman (Jr., 6-0, 20.6 ppg, 3 apg) leads the Golden Eagles and has an offer from MTSU. Patrick Shaughnessy (Sr., 6-9, 11.5 ppg, 8 rpg) is a Charleston Southern sign

This is not Grace's first appearance at State.

They were in the final game in 2006 and lost against Union City.

They were also in State Final Game in 2004 and lost against Unaka.

  6. Although Sexton is being recruited by UT-Chattanooga, I also heard UT-Martin was also recruiting him...Tell him to come on over and play for the Skyhawks..He'd get to play with former Union City Mr Basketball winners M.J. Brown and Marquis Weddle....Love to have him over here in West Tn...!!!.. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Now -- why in the world would he want to do that?

  7. I'm not fully convinced that the west is better than the east.

On any given night, I think that a team like Maryville could beat Liberty.

We've already established that in class 1A that the west is not better than the east.

I think there is a little bit different style of basketball played throughout the state, but that's part of the game.

Either you run and gun (and don't play defense), or you play a controlled offense (with good defense).

I think that makes the difference between having a game where a team scores 100 points and others where you only score 50.

  8. QUOTE(VOLZ11 @ Mar 15 2007 - 10:46 PM) 826413553yeah in the season they blew arts&sciences out by 40...skogen couldnt miss a single shot and he was doing w/e he wanted to out there...if arts & sciences beats culleoka and they play temple in the finals...i think they'll give temple a run for their money.

that would be pretty kuhl to have two chattanooga teams in the championship

  9. QUOTE(19591959 @ Mar 15 2007 - 10:27 PM) 826413520Temple will play full court man to man defense. I don't think Temple has played a zone since the early 90's maybe late 80's. They are not deep only playing six to seven players. The sixth and seventh do not play much at all. The key will be to stay out of foul trouble.

Offensively they like to push the ball up the floor. If you don't get back they will kill you on easy transition layups. Ask Csas that is what cost them the region title. Even as quick as CSAS is they did a bad job of getting back on D. Everything runs through Skogen. He is option 1 and 2. I haven't seen them as much this year as I did last year, but they usually like a lot of Hi or Lo 4 where they try to get their guys in one on one situations.

Dee Newsome - He is lightning quick. Handles the ball well. Really good point guard and is a good shooter. Good defensive pressure on the ball.

Jeremy Sexton - He is a good shooter, but his strength is as a slasher. I think he needs to be more aggressive taking the ball to the hole. Sometimes he is too passive. May come from being a soph and having to try to get Skogen the ball.

Josh Smith - Really good post defender. Really strong hard to move on the block. Pretty good post moves, but they don't get him the ball a lot on O.

Seth Skogen - Good shooter and can take you off the dribble. If he is on Temple is really hard to beat. He can post up but has not done so as much this year. I think this year he has been more of a face up type player.

Those are the four main players. The rest are the role players.

I would add that Dee is a better player than he plays. He needs to shoot more to open up the inside.

I would agree that Jeremy needs to drive to the basket more and learn to dish off to Smith or Skogen.

Smith is a beast inside (believe me, I've played against him more than once). He makes it very difficult to get position down low. He uses his body very well on defense. On offense, if his team got him the ball more down low he would score a lot more than he does.

I've already given my thinking on Seth. He is looking to shoot the ball most of the time and doesn't pass that much. If he is on he can hurt the opposition fast.

  10. QUOTE(Mr knowitall @ Mar 15 2007 - 10:26 PM) 826413517Based on what I saw at the opening games, Williams out played Skogen. I saw Skogen just standing around behind a screen waiting for a pass. He seemed to be off shooting. But he does shoot a lot. Williams is a complete player involving all of his team and played great defense also. I did not see Brown as they were not there. If it does go to the highest scorer Williams probably won't win. But if it goes to the best all around player he has a good shot based on what I saw Weds.

    I would agree.
