  1. I don't know the schedule but I'd love to play Greeneville while they have a really good thing going.I don't see a lot of good by getting teams like Maryville on your schedule now with the way the TSSAA has it so screwed up.I'd like to play Gate city.It would be a huge game in this area.

DB has absolutely nothing to gain by scheduling a Gate City game. I think DB wins by 4-5 touchdowns. What I would like to see is a home and away with Alcoa!

  2. indians: 38

    bears: 3

    there, i said it

Has anyone noticed that Murphy Fair is giving the Tribe no respect so far? He has Bearden ranked ahead of Maryville (at 2nd) and the Indians nowhere to be found. I'm not drinking the Bearden Kool Aid just yet. Perhaps a big win against the Smoky Bears will get his attention.

    Roll Tribe!!!

  3. Non-watered down? I forgot about the football powers of Campbell County, Jefferson County and Karns who are a combined 2-6 this year. Not to mention a few more years back when South-Doyle and William Blount were in the conference. If you want to look back 10 or 15 years thats fine I choose to keep it in the present and the present says you are not the defending Big 8 champs. I hope the team overlooks the rest of the conference like the fans, then you will be 0-2 (champions) in this weak conference.

Your point is moot because every conference in the state has their own traditionally weak programs. I challenge you to find me even one exception. And many times schools that are weak in football are traditionally strong in basketball, and vice-versa. It's the same way in college athletics as well.

PS-I love your self portrait, but you might want to try Sugar Mamas.

  4. You are right on Batman. Central has got to figure out a way to keep their kids from leaving. It's tough to think about what might have been had at least 5 kids chose to stay at Central rather than go to D-B, South, Tenn. High. What's even tougher is to watch at least 8 of our kids go both ways and give it all they've got but just tire out. I know because one of those young men is mine. It's just too difficult to ask these young men to battle in the trenches both ways in this tough conference. I'll even through something new out there I recently heard and that is, the Downs kid from THS is a Blountville kid. Throw in Crowder, Weaver (South), Barger and Straley (D-B) and you have a pretty tough lineup that would compete very well even against the upper half of the Big 8. Oh well, what could've been had they made the right hire 3 years ago!

I think I know the solution to Central's woes but the South people are probably not gonna like it. With Kingsport already starting to annex Colonial Heights, Sullivan County should seriously consider allowing the city to take over control of South (perhaps a 3rd middle school) and redistrict the South kids back to Central, where they went anyway prior to 1980. Central's numbers would grow to the point where they could put a competitive product on the field again. Just thinking out loud.

  5. I totally agree Comp. This is a talented DB team with room to grow. It’s going to be hard for any team in the Big 8 to match up pound for pound with what they could bring to the table this year. BUT… this ship could sink or swim depending on if Seabolt is willing to play 3rd or maybe even 4th fiddle. On several occasions he kept the ball on option plays when he should have given it up… and I don’t think those were bad reads, just him wanting his share of the spotlight. The new talent in that backfield along with an improved CS will be a tough pill for any opponent to have to defend IF Seabolt (as Comp said) depends on his staff. I don’t know the kids names but #8 is the real deal and I would expect him to get more touches as this season unfolds. He's the closes thing I’ve seen to the kid from Science Hill (Solomon) a few years ago. This kid is going to be exciting to watch in the future. And #1 should be THE return man for the Indians… but his potential will be hampered only by the coaches obvious lack of trust in Seabolts arm. I don’t think DB attempted more than 3 or 4 passes. That's Unbelievable considering their potential. I think the line play was pretty good on both sides of the ball. Farragut was no slouch when it came to talent and size… but they were severally hampered by coaching. It pains me to say this but DB is EASLY the team to beat this year. Of course this comes without seeing any of the other teams in action this year. But I couldn’t imagine any other school being able to put up a comparable cast of players this year. With that being said… Clark will have to step his game up because there are at least three Big 8 coaches that will no doubt bring a much more challenging game plan than you saw from the KNOXVILLE staff! If DB doesn’t walk into the post season undefeated it won’t be because they don’t have the team!!!!

I don't know where to begin to critique your critique. Sean Seabolt is the perfect prototype QB for this offense. He is fast, smart, and unselfish. How much does Georgia Tech throw the ball? I predict the implementation of the Georgia Tech offense will be one of the smartest coaching moves ever in NE TN. It fits this personnel like an Armani suit. Another brilliant coaching move was putting CS at fullback. He hits the hole so fast that he has 5 yards before the nose man can find him. As far as the "three Big 8 coaches" game plans, you can't coach speed. And there is no other team in this conference that is even close to DB's team speed. I don't think there will be a close game in this conference this year. Just calling it like I see it.

  6. I know it's late to bring this up, but why do we in Kingsport play this Week 0 game on Thursday night every year? It's not like traffic is so bad in Kpt because of the race 20 miles away. I'm sorry but high school football was meant to be played on Friday night. It would be understandable if it were @ TN High or Sul East, but I just don't see what difference it would make for DB to play on FRI. That being said, I believe we will play as a team because that is exactly what GC coaches. My concern is how quickly the players can get up to speed on the new offense. It is A pretty complicated system for high school age boys to pick up on this quickly. I look for them to improve every week and be explosive by mid-season.

    ROLL TRIBE

  7. 1)Dobyns-Bennett

    2)Science Hill

    3)Daniel Boone

    4)Sullivan South

    5)Tennessee High

    6)Volunteer

    7)David Crockett

    8)Sullivan Central

Can't be #1 until we beat #1. Boone will contend for #2 and I don't think South will be close to where they were a year ago. I just have to believe D-B will be the team to beat. :thumb:

P.S. Of course this is PREseason predictions

Hill you are the most accurate prediction I have seen. It has been said that "speed kills" and the rest of the Big 8 will know the names of about 5 Indians by heart by the time this season is over. Look for Stacy Carter to bring the SH program out of the doldrums and back to prominence. The cream always rises to the top!

  8. They are putting portable ones in to extend on down to around the 30.

The ones that stay are around 15 rows and the portable ones will be 10 rows. With the new endzone bleachers, the permenant bleachers and the portable ones their will be around 2500 visitor seats.

2500 seats for a visitors side seems rather large. The only opponent that I could think of that might bring that many fans is SH (if and when they turn thing around). The Knoxville area schools have such a long drive, it's hard to think they could fill it either.

  9. I haven't seen anything posted on this yet but I heard over the weekend that there's been a coaching change at Sevier. St. Clair is no longer there. I don't know if there has also been a change at Robinson but hear there is a new coach there. Don't know if it head coach though. Also G. Clark is supposed to have more direct say in whats going on with the middle school football programs. Something that I have heard thats been "blocked" in the past. This is something that most "real" DB fans have been wishing for for a long time now. Also heard that Clark has no plans to retire or leave DB football anytime soon. This and whats now taking place in the youth leagues is very good news for the future of DB football. Things are looking up for sure.

Unless there was a coaching change today at Robinson, there is nothing to report. My son is practicing with the 7th grade team as we speak and he said nothing about a change. I have a great deal of respect for Coach Jeff Frye. He is a man who lives his faith and is a great role model for his athletes. But I guess I'll find out when I pick him up at 5:30.

  10. Indian Basketball may mirror Indian Football this year. Could be a losing season. Science Hill will dominate the Big 8. Nobody has anything for them up here.

Where does the problem lie? Is it lack of talent, poor development in middle school, or just plain apathy? What has changed since Buck Van Huss passed away?

  11. I saw it in yesterday's Knox News Sentinel.

Seem to remember that Dennison had like 12. Fulton had three guys with more than 20. And Fulton only made either 2 or 3 3-pointers.

fulton will make it back to the big dance again. db will have a tough time in the big 8 this year. lookout for boone to be in the top as well as south!!

I have a tough time seeing South at the top of any basketball conference unless a lot has changed over there. They have not really been competitive in basketball in quite a few years. But I may get proven wrong. I noticed that the two top finishers in the 3-point shooting contest at the Jamboree were both from Science Hill. That may spell trouble for the rest of the conference.

  12. It's a shame that the Kingsport Times News doesn't cover local High School Sports like it should. I cancelled my subscription over a year ago for that reason. I won't read the newspaper if somebody brings one into work.

I'll throw out another theory. I think this new classification has caused a lot of people to lose interest in the high school playoffs. Think about it. DB, with a losing record beats South (who is supposedly the best team in NE TN) in a rout. WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT THE QUALITY OF FOOTBALL IN NORTHEAST TN? Give me DB vs. Oak Ridge anytime.

  13. clark what a joke :thumb:

Now that is funny..............comming from a South fan no less! :D:?:

clark is a joke his stupid jokes are stupid just like him DB will never win state as long as clark is there... oh by the way i dont like south dude.....i'm a happy valley player

So that's why you call yourself RebelsFan2. I guess you must be an Ole Miss fan..........LOL.

  14. Well.....their back for more. :roflol:

Volboy I think you got some kind of Delousional thing going on in your upstairs area. Or maybe you've got a downstairs mixup. Some of those DB fans calling me out was actually me under another screen name. Some of the best fights I've had on here has been with myself. Heck for all you know I might actually be you. I'll have to check my list and see................No your clear. I don't see Volman on here.

And jhilts if you hate Kingsport so much how come you keep rideing into town for supplies?

I've stayed off awhile, hoping that your spelling would improve. Nahhhhhh! ARe you the poster child for DB Football or for DB Academics?? Better stick with Football. And---I believe your last score was 42-0, one and done, Basketball practice time. Do you just keep posting the same thing over and over???

Getting boring???? Last week I asked you to share your infinite football knowledge with all of us. I must have missed it somewhere. What happened? Too busy at the Ford Parts store???

Dwight doesn't work there any more. Don't you pay any attention? The man OWNS you. The least you can do is pay attention when he speaks. He is home playing with himself all the time now and has unlimited time to write his drivel. He does not work there any more. Leave the poor man ALONE. Roll tribe.

Hey Waco, I think it was one and done again when we played South too. What is that about 17 in a row, but who's counting? Oh, I guess I am.

  15. Thank you for being so concerned about us (not). But if I were you, I'd be more concerned about not getting embarrassed by GC.

And then DB fans wonder why people root against you. :roflolk: You have people on here like BatmanDB that make intelligent posts and I make a post saying nothing other than DB needs to win this game in case they are fighting other teams for a wildcard spot come playoff time and you type an idiotic post like that. You are the one that should be embarrassed for making your fanbase look like jerks.

WE ALL KNOW HOW INNOCENT YOUR LITTLE REMARKS ARE. GROW UP PACTOLUS CRYBABY.

  16. I am going to say DB loses a very close game, it doesn't matter though since it is not a conference game. DB 32 Sever County 35

Man some of this stuff im seeing this year is unreal. This is DB football people! I can't believe some of these comments. Smoke I'll have to put yours in second place "it doesn't matter though since it is not a conference game". First place would go to " who cares if we win or lose or if we can tackle, I had a blast" That one actually came from a player (or at least they claimed to be a player) Hey maybe we should just forfet and get ready for the next conference game.

    :thumb:

This game is big for DB because if you lose this one and then lose to Science Hill, there will be no playoffs for the Tribe. You have a remote possibility of making the playoffs with 3 losses but I just don't see anybody getting in with 4.

Thank you for being so concerned about us (not). But if I were you, I'd be more concerned about not getting embarrassed by GC.

  17. South will destroy GC, Football in Tennessee is bigger, faster and stronger. GC will not be able to keep up with what South can do. South 45 GC 7

I was talking with a friend of mine tonite who is big into Gate City football, formerly as a player and now as a volunteer coach. I asked him for his prediction for Friday night. He gave me three or four excuses why South would win by 3 or 4 touchdowns. He said that they are a lot bigger school, GC has only 6 seniors and 3 are benchwarmers, that their defensive backs are small and one is a freshman. He also said that South has 22 seniors.

But you know I really got the feeling that he was just blowing smoke so they can crow if they happen to pull the upset. And I'll bet you a dollar to a donut that all those folks over there are expecting an upset too. GC is up to No.2 in their classification in VA this week. When I was a boy my dad would take me over there to watch them play Ketron. If things go bad early it can snowball on you. South better be prepared for a very hostile environment. Having said all that, GO REBELS! Bring a win back to the Volunteer State.

  18. The JV is playing Elizabethton at 3:00 today and the freshman are playing Central thursday at 6:00.Both games are at J Fred.Roll Tribe

Did anyone hear what the score was in this contest? I was by the mall around 5:30 and saw some Elizabethton players eating at Chick-Fil-A. Based on their size I couldn't believe they were on the JV squad. They were huge. Their cupboard may be full for quite a while.

  19. South will host Gate City in 2010 and anyone who tries to extract anything meaningful from the Boone score does not understand that the game of football must be played with intensity and emotion. It is a credit to the Rebels that they were able to find it prior to game's end and salvage a victory. Each week should see improvement and I hope each heart will own that it is a privilege to play for Jake, not a burden, and all that is measured to that end is effort, not wins and losses.

Good post crawdad. I think many people are impatient in waiting for the Rebels to come to grips with the reality of this football season. I think there are a few DB people that are in total disrespect to post that we are overrated because of our performance against Boone. I don't wish this devistation to happen to another team, but it would be nice if everyone would search their soul to find the graciousness to refrain from using our lack of ability to just forget about Jake to summize that we are not the team projected in preseason. Fact is, we may not comeback from this loss. Period. Then what will you naysayers declare? That we never had anything to begin with?

We pray that this does not happen to you. Especially in order that everyone could see how you handle such a life changing occurance. And belittle you based on your inability to rebound from said trajedy in record time. Make no mistake, this was not a blown knee (as in Knox West's tailback), or a broken leg (my respects to Caleb Looney), it was something a bit larger than that. There is not a protocol for when you get over this and come back with the fervor of George Patton. Truth be told some may never get over it. If this were Vietnam and the bullets were flying then getting over it would be a life preserving manuever. But it is not.

Please let me say that when Stacy took over this program the first thing he empowered these young men with was the power of leadership. And in 2005 when Jake McMillan & Co. rewrote the Sullivan South Football Constitution they handed it down to '06, and then to '07, and then '08, and now '09. The Seniors of '09 are a mirror image of what Jake McMillan and the '05 Seniors set as the textbook example of what it would take to push this program forward. We simply have to believe that these Seniors have the intestinal fortitude to pick up their cross and march forward. And remember Jake by doing what he did. Putting the pedal to the metal. It may not be immediately. But the power is in them to stand up and return to battle. But they must decide when. Until then the consequences will be what they may. We must be ready to accept this.

In the end, I admonish you Senior Rebels who might read this to know that we know what you are capable of. Jake knew all to well what he was capable of. You must live with yourselves after you move on from Sullivan South. By all means, if you wish to honor Jake, it must be now! He cannot have left in vain. We don't care if you lose every game. But if each week you hit the field with his power and vision then you will be upholding his example. And if you can uphold his example then your level of victory will be insurmountable. And you will have done your best to honor him. And honoring him will be a life long endeavor...But it is time to begin. In the Rebel Nation.

If you review this whole thread I don't think you will find anyone used the word "overrated" but you. I believe posters have been very respectful, as they should be.

  20. "in the 70's, 80's and 90's DB would not play Gate City. It was a no win situation for DB. I understand. Whatever!"

The above repeated just for Spear. It is true. Talk to some people around way back then. I am sure there is no one around now that made those decisions then. Heck, DB just played two of the best teams in the state to start this season. I didn't say they duck anyone now. But they used to and I probably would have also.

I really am suprised with all the name calling. You city boys are supposed to be so sophisticated and all.

Just like the football team, i'm playing down to the level of competition, i guess. Roll Tribe Roll....Go Rebels..... 35-0 South

I would have agreed with you about the score three weeks ago, but with the trouble South had with Boone (not exactly a perennial power) I would have to say that this one is a toss up. Plus you have to consider home field advantage. Does anyone know if South inked to play them again next year in Col. Heights?
