  1. First of all welcome to Williamson County, you'll find the Brentwood announcer to be "BRILLIANT" You'll see what I mean by this .haha

He needs to chill out, and they need to turn the volume down just a bit on their PA. It's as loud as LP field, and I can hear him a mile away, even though I don't want to.

    That sounds pretty terrible...

I was at the Franklin/Brentwood game (with no dog in the fight) and the people I was with commented on his "announcing" He was even screaming into the mike at the snap as Franklin was attempting a FG (a miss). He was trying to be the entertainment instead of letting the kids play.

  2. The Brentwood High school TV station replayed the game this weekend. Go the school website www.wcs.edu/bhs then go to the media site. There should be an email address and you may be able to order a copy. (Williamson Co. website appeared to be down Sun night, but keep trying) BTW, Congrats to the Spartans on the win. I know the team has been knocking at the door for several years. My son played on the 2006 Ravenwood team that won down in Memphis. Good luck next week.

  3. Given the craziness of matchups this year, predicitions are a shot in the dark. I was looking at the 6A bracket and noticed it didn't pay to be an odd number seed this year. Only 4 total made it to rd 2. 1-#1 1-#3, 1-#5, 1-#7. Don't follow 5A much at all but I will prediction Henry Co. 6A is full of possibilities. Blackman has had a good run, but playoff inexperience may come back to bite them. I'll go with them from the East on a hunch, and from the West it probably comes down to winner of Brentwood/Franklin, so.... I'll go Brentwood. I don't see how they keep doing it, but Crawford always has them lined up right. Between Brentwood and Blackman, I'll go Brentwood in the rematch. Don't hate, all these are pure speculation.

  4. Like in TV games in the past, place kicking sunk them. Not FG's mind you, extra points. Missed PAT's cost them games against Brentwood, BA, and now Hillsboro. Could we PLEASE find someone to kick. They've never had a stud kicker in their existance. Come on soccer guys, they need your help. I agree with Spoon (#74?) they didn't look disciplined at all. Hillsboros 1st TD was a disgrace with 8 missed tackles, but props to the RB for continuing to churn those legs. The offense moved the ball adequately but couldn't close the deal which has been the problem the past 3 years. Things don't look very promising from what I saw last night. It's going to be a long year I'm afraid.

  5. Part of the talent drop-off has been Rector's refusal to put together a freshman team. You just need an opportunity for the young guys to get their feet wet all together and assimilate into the school's culture as a unit. It is such a large jump from being a 15 year old stud to competing against 18 year old guys who've been pumpin weights and playing ball.

Maybe the new coach will see things differently.

And DAD1, you just need to move them into the house next to VY that you will buy for your daughter to insure they go to the right place!

As an RHS supporter from the jump, I have seen the program both with and without a freshman program. The year my son played freshman ball was really a waste. It doesn't fully prepare them for varsity football near as much as playing JV. Yes, they will be playing soph and some juniors, but at Ravenwood, you will almost always be playing teams with better size and speed athletes so you better get used to it. Rector gave soph a chance to prove themselves at least on varsity special teams and many turned this into regular playing time at the varsity level. If an 18 yo is playing jv, he probably HASN'T been pumping wts and playing ball or he would be playing Varsity. When a freshman program is in existance, it has a tendency to be separated from the varsity players and by eliminating freshman ball, Rector brought freshmen into the fold with varsity players so they could be mentored. Those who chose not to take advantage of the mentoring or special teams opportunity, well that's on them. Who knows what the new coach will do, whatever the decision, I will support them.

  6. Rector is a fine, fine football coach. He did an absolutely great job with a new program.

How about Aydelott from Riverdale as a replacement. He still lives in that area somewhere doesn't he?

Aydelott has 2 kids at Ravenwood but the Wing T would be a disaster there as they don't have the personnel to even attempt it. However, the principal will do the hiring and that's a scary proposition in itself as she has absolutely no athletic IQ whatsoever. Whoever is hired will have to teacher a full classload, so it limits canidates who want to primarily or exclusively coach instead of primarily teach and also coach.

  7. Just when you think the competition couldn't be more competitive, the TSSAA raised the stakes between these teams where every win is very important just to get in the playoffs as a wildcard, not to mention finishing 1st or 2nd. It's goodbye to playing DII teams which is sad but it is what the TSSAA wanted.

Hey Rappy, Any word on who Rector has scheduled? I know he has to schedule 5 nonregion games instead if 3 as in the past and in the past had trouble getting any public schools to play them. Wonder if he's contacted BGA, FRA, or Father Ryan...close schools for gate reasons and games that are winnable.

As far as returning players, I know the QB and RB are back but only 1 OL, Not sure about WRs or defense, do you know?

  8. I was just looking at the new district and noted the following:

    Since 2002, all teams except Centennial have appeared in at least 1 Championship game;

    That's 10 appearances with 4 Gold balls and 6 Silver balls;

    Brentwood- 1 Gold

    Franklin- 2 Silver

    Ravenwood- 1 Gold, 1 Silver

    Independence- 1 Silver

    Hillsboro- 2 Gold, 2 Silver

Cenntenial- None, but still a tough team

This District will be brutal with only 2 guaranteed 6A and 1- 5A berths

    Let's hear some opinions.

  9. Congrats to the Patriots! I didn't think you could do it but you proved me wrong. Franklin had no hopes of stopping any 3rd down less than 3 yards. Your boys are big!

Bass impressed me more than Valentine, may be Franklin keyed on him and I believe the ankle was bothering him in the 2nd half. You kept Franklin from getting their usual big plays and they killed themselves with turnovers.

On the play of Oakland's 1st score, it was 3rd and 8 and Webb had pretty much the entire D on the line of scrimmage. When Bass broke thru the initial line, there was no one between him and the goal. Why was that D called???

On offense, several times low percentive passes were thrown killing drives. KEYLO was the key to winning which was under utilized. He was effective every time a pass was thrown to him. A game plan of multiple short passes would have given Franklin a much better shot as Oakland's Dline was too good to have the run as the primary play. Ford may have gotten his long runs if the Dline was looking pass. I'm not saying it would definately gotten the win, but Franklin left alot of plays unused.

Congrats to the Rebel players for a fine season, coaching seemed to hurt you. Again, congrats to the Patriots, you seemed to win with much more class than the Bulldogs.

  10. I just think its a bit overblown about how Oakland really hasnt won any big games when it could not be further from the truth. Riverdale, Smyrna twice, and obviously Ooltewah, were all games where there was a big piece of doubt whether or not Oakland would be able to win.

Both Oakland and Franklin are similar in that they both have had big targets on their backs all year long and both of their losses were where they were in control late, only to lose the game. In terms of scheme and how they play, Oakland and Franklin are different, but they are alike more than folks know, and that is why both of them are here.

Actually, it's never really known how good each team is related to the other because they usually have no common opponents. WhiteStation appeared strong, but apparently their region was not as strong as region 6. It will be interesting to see which team can bring home the gold ball. I'm hoping for a good (close) game as the 1A and 2A games tonight are rather boring.

  11. Well said. I was in the stands crying last Friday. It was announced before the end of the game that no fans or students from either side would be allowed onto the field at the conclusion of the game. After a little bit of celebration by themselves, every single one of our young men came running to the stands to celebrate with their fans and families. This touched my heart and, I felt, showed the caliper of this team.

Way to go Patriots.............now let's finish it!

FYI- on Sat night no one will be allowed on the MTSU field so it's great to have your team come to YOUR fans' side to celebrate rather than sprint to the opposing side to grab your crotches and taunt. Good luck to both teams. I am rooting for Franklin and don't see how they can be beat, but I admit I haven't seen Oakland but am hearing alot so if you do win, Pros to you, you will have earned it. Only 27 hours to go. To everyone involved, enjoy the experience, you'll always remember it...win or lose, trust me, I've been thru both.

  12. That fan was from ravenwood. Be assured that after 4 years ago no franklin player or fan is going into this game cocky. A lot of respect for Oakland as we used to play and of course no one will forget good ole donny webb going up against his old team. Going to be a fun atmosphere Saturday night

Yes he was but Ravenwood fans know winners when they see them. Good luck Rebels!

  13. This is the problem I have with the new system and I'm sure Smyrna may have the same issues as my team Ravenwood. Smaller or weaker teams wouldn't schedule them in the past when non region games really didn't matter. Now that they weigh much heavier, no one will want to play a good team if they think they have any shot at the playoffs. It was hard enough for Ravenwood to get 3 non region games and look who we had to get...BA,MBA,and Goodpasture, all strong D II schools. No way we can continue to play that type schedule, but who do you get, and now they need 5 non region games. This may end up being a major mess IMO. What's everybody elses opinion?

  14. Thanks for bringing up that memory! /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

We felt good about our chance to move into the championship game the way the 1st half went. Ravenwood kinda stomped on us in the 2nd half though.

Comparing the team of 2 years ago to this one is truly an apples/oranges comparison. The team we had 2 years ago was more experienced in some key positions. We had a totally different coaching staff running a pro set type offense. We were more predictable, but we executed very well. (at least until the 2nd half of the Ravenwood game)

This year we run a spread offense. It's more aggressive in the play calling, perhaps less predictable. We've had some inconsistencies that are a result of players learning new positions, a new system, and also we have fewer seniors on this team. Our defense is more aggressive than 2 years ago.

I really can't assess Franklin, but based on teams I've seen from region 6 in the past couple of years, it's safe to assume we will need to protect the ball and have one of our best efforts to win this one. But we're used to that underdog role. Anytime we've gone up against a quality opponent, we've been the 'dog.

Happy to oblige. If WS is as fast as 2006, FHS has not seen that much speed (trust me Rebels, I've seen who ypou've played and WS was that fast so don't argur that point). FHS defense is playing much stronger than Ravenwood at that point and WS helped put out our safety for the next game and vastly limit a LB and CB. (see 35 pts v Smyrna). Franklin's RB's are faster and stronger than Ravenwood's, Keilo, #5 and Ford, #4 can go the distance with any touch. If a team loads up at all to stop the run, Mr Football canidate at QB will burn a team with a long pass to a fast and big #8. It may sound as if I think they're unbeatable but I know in HS football...any given night, anyone can win. I'm pulling for the Rebels (have a niece, #31 on BBall team, at the school and I'll be at the game), but wish good luck and safe travels to the Spartans and their fans. Other posters...note the class Spartansfan has and use it as an example of how this board should work...sarapalin,kingz65,etc. etc.

  15. Okay, I can't take it anymore. I have sat back and been unwilling to join in this ridiculous war of words, but I just can't do that anymore. For all those Brentwood posters on this thread - please be quiet!! Don't give Franklin any more articles to post up in their locker room. This week's game will be a tough one and we don't need to give the opponent any mental edge. Let the boys handle this on the field of play, and win or lose, let them show what they are made of. I am the parent of a player and beg you to rein this in and keep our reputation what it should be.

For all you Franklin-lovers on this thread, I am going to say this. Brentwood fans are every bit as proud of their team as you are of yours. We love the grit and determination of these boys, and the senior leadership that has been exhibited is what keeps driving this team forward each week, even when the odds seem stacked against them. I am sick and tired of seeing on these sites that we are arrogant or elitist or whatever other terms can be dredged up against us. We have endured some of the dirtiest play I have ever seen this year, mainly because we are Brentwood. The Channel 3 announcers and the Tennessean have such a bias against Brentwood and for Franklin it is ridiculous! Everywhere we go we hear "those snobs from Brentwood" this or that. There are many of us who actually work to live in Brentwood specifically so that our children can go to the #1 rated public high school in the state of TN. Check out Newsweek! From academics to sports to the caliber of the families, there is nothing about Brentwood that we can be ashamed of and nothing you say will change that.

So, all of this to say that if you hear Brentwood fans getting a bit passionate about our team you can know that it is because we are the ONLY ones who will! Brentwood has never gotten the respect it deserves and we know that our kids need just as much support as the next team and we will be the ones to give it to them. Let us enjoy this bit of success the Bruins are experiencing and give those boys some props for the great effort they continue to put forth.

You people tire me greatly with all of this nonsense.

This, my friends is a class Bwood supporter. I've bashed some of the others but in reality I know there are more like you than them. Good luck to your son Fri night.

  16. As a region 6 fan I haven't kept up as close to region 4, but I did see the games Smyrna plyed against BA and Brentwood... wow, what happened since then? Was there a team transplant? I had left you for dead and now it's beginning to look like the Bulldogs are replacing Rdale as a perrenial powerhouse. No disrespect to Oakland, I just haven't seen any of your games. Regardless of who takes this one, make sure you take care of Reg 1 or 2 rep so it can be another Reg 4 v 6 matchup in the Finals. MidTenn football rulz! Good health and luck to both teams.

  17. They did on special teams. Great coverage and a fantastic punter. He got some good receptions but it really didn't matter in the long run.

I posted that about Franklin's punting game. Ravenwood's special teams (along with Yazzie) destroyed any hope of upsetting HHS. Hope the game didn't get as uglt as the posters are making it sound. Rebels, you won, now move on to Brentwood. They are sure to believe they have your number. I've said several times this season that Franklin has absolutely no excuse for not winning state. Now go do it!

  18. Good game to Franklin, great team without a doubt. Hope ya'll win state and I really think you guys can. The RBs on that team are just golden plain and simple. Hendersonville seniors, don't hang your head for a second. You guys did something great here, bringing respect back to Hville for the first time in years (except from a few obnoxious posters on here). You're a better team then that final score indicates, and we all know it, Franklin was just by far the better team tonight.

As for people on here bashing Yazzie, step back and realize what you're doing. You're teasing a kid BY NAME for his team losing......wow, that is probably the most pathetic thing I've seen in a while. I can guarantee you this right now, you won't EVER see an Hville fan calling out someone by name like that on here, that's pathetic guys.

    HHS ALL HAIL!!

Yazzie is a very good player, he showed that against many opponents, including my Raptors. Will he be playing in college? He appears to have alot to offer. I didn't see this game so not sure how he did but it sounds like the Rebels shut him down.

  19. Pops, wasn't it just last week that you were starting threads for brentwood because the fans weren't "interested" enough to start one themselves. Now this week brentwood is cocky, arrogant, and elitist. Wow, what a change in one short week! Why don't we call a spade a spade and admit that all the folks who are offended by the confidence that brentwood plays with are simply intimidated.

Yes, that was me trying to start some good natured ribbing. Like I said, Brentwood has proven it has a solid program but the point I was making was although you can brag, ("be confident") It many times comes across as condescending. Brentwood has a good team and a great coach. I'm suggesting you be allitle humble and let the players do the talking on the field, that's all you need. It's like a rich person kidding or joking about a poor person's clothes, etc. It just doesn't sit well with alot of people. Again, good luck tonight, I believe you will win.

  20. Be careful Bruins. High school football can be unpredictable. (See loss v Ravenwood which I'm sure you view as a fluke). CHS is streaky so if they get on a roll, anything CAN happen. I believe Brentwood will win due to the solidness of the team overall. As for the cockiness, to me it comes across as alittle arrogant or elitist and can be unattractive. It's not like BHS hasn't earned the right to be cocky/arrogant etc but just because you can, doesn't mean you should. That's when things get ugly. As for the CHS fans re Brentwood: It ain't bragging if you say it and you back it up. Good luck and health to both teams. Will WCTV be broadcasting the game this week?
