  1. The way coach Watson and shad being ran off why would anybody wanna coach at Blackman now? I mean yeah we all know it's the best area of the mid state for high school football with some of the best athletes in the state  but from an outsider looking in  it's looking like a principal that may be hard to work for and get along with

You didn't have to mention it, it's the lack of respect you're giving the program just like everyone else. I'm here to tell you MJ is a 2 TD favorite over Riverdale.... atleast. That's how good we are, but people still deny that and that's why im on here "beating my chest"

Are you still beating your chest? Where'd ya go mjnogoldenballthisyear....are you somewhere else telling everybody how good the silver bears are? Talkin about That perfect 10-0 season? Talkin about how the silver bears hadn't allowed a touchdown in six games or that mt Juliet is better than maryville Oakland or a young whitehaven team? Where are you mjnogoldenballthisyear

ive never heard such arrogance from a school that's not done anything as I did from mt Juliet. Take that weak schedule of cupcakes and eat it while watching the big boys you said were no good and watch them play over the thanksgiving holidays

  3. dang, Blackman sure  is worried about this next game with Oakland not playing kids this week and turning down the TV game worried about gate money "per Chad withrow of 104.5." It would have been a great opportunity for Blackman their kids "who most will not get an opportunity to ever play on tv" and Rutherford county to showcase themselves to people who don't live in Rutherford cty why they call this the SEC of high school football. I don't really think the game being on tv changes your gate for people and kids around here that wanna go to the game

We're not, the kid's dad has openly spoke about putting his kid in Maryville before on CoachT but for whatever reason he initially decided he would succeed more at WB.

In regards to the Cleveland teams, I played against the best 2 and in particular the team with the Cobb twins stands out. However, I would bet there are a few of our teams at Maryville would have beat them.  Just in the late 90's I'd take the 95, 97, and especially the 98 team at Maryville but we unfortunately we'll never know.

Small world, I played on the 95 Smyrna team who was coached by wb's coach shad that beat Maryville in the p/o's that year and lost to Cleveland in the semi's. Both teams were tough but I'd give the edge to Cleveland late in the season, and I believe they had won state the two previous years if I remember right? So I'd give Cleveland the edge but Anyways we were a pass away from making it to state and beating the champs Cleveland, anyways Cleveland went on and  destroyed who ever they played in the championship game and  I was to devestated to watch or even cared who they'd played so I can't remember but anyways thanks for the memories even if they still sting to this day

  5. Well as of 2-2-17 there is NO schedule on the teams web site either.

Is anybody doing anything with the team as to weight training and conditioning?  For that matter have we got a strength Coach YET?  On the web site it still says TBD.

the website went to crap after wyant left, i had always thought riverdale had the best high school website i had ever seen at the time in the early 2000's, the tomahawk chop played, had stats from all games and recent news, links to national ranks, mr football winners, records against each team "updated records, not just til 2006" just about anything you cld think of, and everything on the old website was clean and neat and it was updated weekly not once every now and then with a copy and paste from the dnj

  6. The 5 players were on the freshman team..

he went ahead and ran them off early, i believe he likes to count on one hand his senior class, you know i dont care if hes fired or not i will NEVER go to another football game at riverdale just from my own experience ive had with coach, some things in life just cant be taken back in life, if i have an itch go to a football game on a friday night i can choose between six or seven other schools in rutherford county to go too

  7. This the same folks voting in the 'poll' that used to have DB as either number one or two in the state all those years I NEVER saw them in the championship game.

R'dale was then also. Then we got to go to the Championship Game year after year.

Anyone know if the Silver and Gold balls are even displayed anymore? Have the players been told to go and SEE them?

Now when was the LAST time the 'Chief' was painted? When I saw it a couple of weeks ago it was a DISGRACE!

Last year The silver and gold trophies were in the trophy case when you walked in the main entrance but When I was in the school at the beginning of the school year I believe the silver ones have been replaced by the girls basketball championship trophies
  8. Here is the news flash that everyone seems to be missing. 4- maybe 5 kids on any given team that play high school football and graduate every year might get a scholarship,- if they are lucky. How many of you would get up and go to work at a place where your boss belittled you, disrespected you  and then by the way tells you that you ain't getting paid. Kids are no different today in the aspect  that they want to feel like they belong to something special, but special starts from the top down not the bottom up. You will never fill the sidelines if you cant fill their heart.

truth!! the line would be deeper, i know a few kids that played on the line and got tired of being belittled and now just roam the halls of riverdale, i think there is one left of the o and d lines that started at christiana in 11 and the freshmen team the next year, idk what goes through peoples heads that doing that kinda stuff makes a team better, and your rite it starts from the top, i remember when shad got to blackman and within a year or two it seemed like every young man at that school was on the football team, i just dont know how year after year this stuff gets said on here but nothing ever changes

  9. Congrats w/b y'all have gotten a heck of a coach, I played for coach shad at smyrna in the mid 90s and after graduating I went back and attended games and he made me do something I didn't think I'd do, i started going to games at blackman "I won't be doing that anymore btw" the way his teams play are like him, blue collar tough football with a family like atmosphere. there were plenty of yrs where when at smyrna we didn't have D1 players but he took the players we had and made them good high school football players, he adjusts to the players he had weather it was jauan jennings "at blackman" or at smyrna the gun slinger sonny gray playing qb, coach played the offense that put his team in a position to win. You might say oh well yeah anybody wld do that but there's a guy at UT who for half a season ran an offense with a qb that didn't fit that offense, anyways congrats w/b on the hire and i will be looking for scores from yall on friday nights and rooting for you guys, but on the other hand after 20 plus yrs of seeing coach on the side lines in rutherford county I'm gonna miss seeing a coach shad team in rutherford county

  10. i agree that the county has gotten bigger and the competition has gotten better which has made 7aaa the SEC of high school football but i also know for a fact what LOD is talkin about "ive seen it with my own eyes" kids getting ran off the team for what i saw during spring practice was having practice in another sport that interfered with football practice, as a coach wouldn't you want athlete's who play other sports year round and who wanna play for your team and represent your school?

just talk to the young men at Riverdale and you will know why they don't wanna play football at Riverdale anymore

each year we are getting closer and closer to coach HateAlot's dream to just play 7 on 7 teams of say like a holloway and making it the new battle of the boro

  11. Then before you see that, you might want to take in Oakland v. Blackman on August 24th. The 7-AAA Championship will be decided on the first game of the season for both teams

actually i will see all the 7aaa games week 0 :) but blackman hoover is the must see game of the year for me
  12. I'm with milo on this one, I saw LaVergne in the opener against smyrna and before they self distructed half way through the 2nd qtr I was very impressed, if LaVergne plays mistake free and riverdale still struggles and lets face it if the players arent buying in anymore look for an upset, never would I had thought I'd see the day id be saying LaVergne wld have a chance to beat riverdale, I better check my medication did I just say that?

  13. Good win for the Bulldogs. 34-20. Special teams stepped up big. Defense struggled a bit. Offense killed it on the ground. O-line played extremely well. Cane ridge played pretty dirty. Fuqua is a beast he gashed us all night. Got to get better on stopping the run. On to Antioch. Go Dawgs!!!

Yeah last night was the second time I've seen cane ridge, I went and watched the p/o game when they played riverdale last year, they came out pointing and hollering at us the fans on the riverdale side and I noticed the pointing when smyrna came out last night and the body slam tackle, there was I believe a LB trying to fight people at times, but the game itself I give props to cane ridge they were very well prepared, Fuqua ran the ball hard and there was a pass play they scored two td's on where the wr was wide open, special teams helped win this game for smyrna with those sky punts to the up man that was recovered by smyrna, keep working hard bulldogs!

  14. Gary is not the reason? if anything,so called fans like LOD are as much to blame as a zone change and more schools in the boro.

I've seen it all now! so No emphasis on defense and no care at all for the feeder school and kids that grew up wanting to be warriors getting ran off by the coaches or discourged is now the so called fans fault?.....Unbelievable!!! yes there's been a zone change but there are also

still 2000 kids at riverdale and only 61 come out for football? Eagleville has more kids playing with an enrollment of 400, those numbers make since to you? To me its a tell of a Much bigger issue!

before I even got an account on coacht this goes back to the rankin era LOD was who I always looked for on coacht if i needed any in sight about riverdale football, when I read his posts now a days I feel the pain he has in his heart for where this program is now, to bad there isn't more people at riverdale now a days who has the heart that LOD has for this program anymore!

  15. At least three schools in the county need more coaches on staff.  This doesn't necessarily reflect the state of the program.  Its more about the county cutting down on teaching positions at schools, you can't hire a coach without a teaching position.

I believe LOD was referring to volunteer coaches and you don't have to have a teaching position to be a volunteer coach like Gerald griffin is now for riverdale or an Alex Robbins who was at smyrna and blackman

  16. I guess I'm a little shocked at this point that anybody is jumping to Aydelott's defense. Riverdale has 2,000 enrolled, about the same as the other schools in the county (maybe someone can provide the exact numbers). One of the parents in my neighborhood explained why their son left the program. Pretty much backed up the conclusions I had already drawn. But regardless of the reason, if the 50% of kids don't want to play for the head coach it has to be fixed (and I think even that number is misleading). It's especially troubling when the feeder school kids bolt before ever enrolling.Did anyone that watched the game Thursday feel like that freshmen had any business on the field, in any capacity? Seriously...

No The freshmen qb shouldn't had been in the game, and ive noticed there are a lot of kids that have played from youth league football and on into middle school who have suddenly lost intrest in playing football when they get to riverdale, im sure we prob know some of the same people tdc to know why they have lost intrest when they get to riverdale, and yes there are other schools now and parady happens but out of a 2000 enrollment school only 60 wanna play for a storied program like riverdale? heres one telling stat, the tssaa website has eagleville with an enrollment of 409 and yet they will field over 60 players, riverdale fields 61 players for an enrollment of 2028, something just doesn't click with these #'s

From oct 2012 tssaa enrollment #'s for 2013, its the latest #'s for 6a

  17. Ok, Besides the T$$AA makind a money grab.. Can someone tell me why Maryville has to travel to Seigal? Why dont the higher seeds host the first or even first two playoff games, then have some pre-determined sites for the two schools to play at? Theres no way that these two teams should be hosting a game at this point. Its a severe dissadvantage for a team to travel all the way to the host school. Why not meet in the Middle somewhere and have both teams travel SOME? Just doesnt seem fair to me. Am I wrong?

Are you kidding me, Rutherford county fans have traveled to your place twice in the past 3 years and met in cookeville for the 10 state championship

And the rule is if there is a #1 seed in middle on even years east will travel to middle and in odd years middle will travel east that's why riverdale traveled to maryville 09 and 11

And you wanna talk fair for making 1 road trip, most teams in Rutherford county have to play games out of state and schools on the other side of the state during the season because of the new Tssaa playoff system and teams not wanting to play because they try to schedule wins

Riverdale, Brighton high school west tn Memphis area, Ballard high school Louisville ky

Blackman, signal mountain and Bradley central Chattanooga area

Smyrna, olive branch high school Mississippi

Oakland, Arlington high school west tn, Memphis area

Siegel, ooltewah high school Chattanooga area

This isn't counting playoff games traveling to maryville, white haven, ooltewah over the past few years

  18. i think db needs to start scheduling murfreesboro teams and maryville for non conference games to see how they stack up against the contenders. those games would be a good indicator of where they are as a football team and be a good test. those games would also help them have more realistic expectations, because chances are you're not gonna win the state title if you cant knock of maryville or one of the middle tennessee teams.

if DB needs to schdule a nondistrict game against any of the murfreesboro teams im sure the coachs would love to hear from them, im already hearing all district 7aaa teams are having trouble finding nondistict games "home and an away" for the next 2 years

  19. Wow ... doesn't Riverdale have the QB that got injured last year back this year ? I thought Riverdale had almost everyone coming back this year ? Maybe LOD is onto something here , this loss really shocked me , I listened to the game on the Internet and was really surprised Riverdale didn't play any better .

i was at the game last night and a few things, and not everybody, riverdale has had 2 lineman get hurt since the siegel game throw in odom hasnt played since the 1st drive of the hendersonville game and idk if riverdales qb has ran nearly as much this year

to me looking at riverdales lineman look small something i never thought i would say i riverdale for years they were the blueprint of what you want for lineman, when i think of the warriors i think of ogelsby, spurlock, lilenthal, mays, for example

saying that when blackman needed yards or on d they needed a stop they were able to do it when needed too and i think blackmans line play was better then riverdales, i also think blackman did a great job of when riverdale passed there dbs and safety stayed at home and made a few ints

like tdc said riverdales drives were short, riverdale was inconsistant driving the ball and never could get anything going, i think it could be a little bit of both as i mentioned smaller line and no odom to run this offense with woodruff

now as of coaching i think shad prepared this game like a playoff game he knew he had to win this game to make the playoffs, do i think shad outcoached aydelott again? yeah, takes me back to the smyrna quaterfinals game in 06 shad just kept pluging away and got the job done, do i believe aydelott is the reason riverdale is where they are i dont know, i think rankin saw the writing on the wall where other the teams were going to be catching up to there level and lets face it riverdale in the 90s and early 00s recruited itself in rutherford county once they started getting in the big game each year year after year thats where you wanted to play ball and in my day if you played football you went to riverdale, if you played basketball you went to oakland there was only 2 schools at that time and with 4 schools i think it watered down riverdales talent but keep this in mind when rankin left blackman siegel and oakland were all down and the only teams that could challenge riverdale was smyrna and wilson central, if coach aydelott would have mixed in a forward pass in the early years at riverdale maybe riverdale beats smyrna in 06 and wilson central in 07 in the playoffs and keeps that train going and as much as i heard riverdale people complain about the wing t offense its kind of like the coach was out to prove everybody wrong and you can win championships at the highest level of football without a forward pass but i dont know, what i do i know as a fan it is good to see former riverdale coachs mcdaniel at oakland and wyant going at siegel what they have done and has made everybody fun to watch even shad going from smyrna to blackman and making them better right off the bat, and makes every game mean something and really has made it like an sec college football feel and i love that, but talent wise i think siegel is loaded with better talent then anybody in 7aaa this year so i dont think it matter who the coach was in that game but then again it goes back to if you keep that train going, if your winning the players find there way there!

  20. I can name two games where the officiating was NOT good and did have something to do with the outcome of the game.

Oakland got a raw deal at LaVergne. LaVergne got a raw deal at smyrna. It's smyrna's turn to lose one that way, except they won't even be close against Siegel or Oakland. Maybe they lose to Ravenwood on a bad call or two. See how they like it if it happens.

Senior night at both Oakland and Siegel for the two remaining smyrna road games? What's the over/under on how many pick-6's smyrna QBs throw in those two games?

smyrna has already paid there dues when it comes to officiating when they lost in the opening round of the playoffs at franklin last year because the refs didnt know OT rules and cost smyrna a chance at probably there last run at a gold ball for a few years, and lets be real here your wolverines were the benefeciaries when the refs gave them a free untimed down right before the half @ riverdale friday night which the wolverines got a td, as the clock was running lavergne tries to hurry up and line up to spike the ball but had a false start after the clock had already went to zero

  21. There nothing wrong with the current system It's NOT broken. Coach's does not like it because they have to wait till saturday to figure out who there playing. In the 5 class systems in some regions there is some teams having to drive over 100 miles to play a region game. Keep the current system schools are making good money playing the current way

the 6 clsses really missed up district 9aaa, we have the problem with every school traveling "over 100 miles" out of district with smyrna going to olive branch ms, riverdale going to brighton "west tn above memphis" and also louisville ky, oakland has to go to arlington "west tn", blackman has to go to chattanoga area to play signal mountain and bradley central, siegal has to go to the chattanoga area to play ooletwah and i believe lavergne travels to knoxville to play CAK, now these games probably wouldnt be played had we stayed in 5 classes because we had 2 more teams in the old region 4 lebanon and wilson central if we were playing in 5 classes next year you add the addition of stewarts ck and region 4 would only have to schdule 2 non region games and coaches not calling high schools all over the southeast to schdule games

as for playoffs its not just coaches that liked the old system but the fans i bleieve liked also now it had a formula even i could figure out, top 4 of the region were in the playoffs, top 2 teams hosted a playoff games the bottom 2 traveled, the current system i need every high school schdule in the state, strength of schdule, margin of victory, an alegebra book, homework hotline, a few cold ones and a pizza, i mean seriously the bcs for college football is easier to understand then this crap!

and the whole reason for 6 classes is $ they make more money for playoffs cause more teams get in, and then they went up to what $9 this year thats up like 40% over just 5 years ago, and where is that money going??? and why are state championship games being played in a mediocre college football stadium you look at alabama they play theres in tuscaloosa, pennsylvania at hienz field, just to name a few but benard says it a great enviroment for the kids but that goes back to what else $, cookeville bid the most so they get to host them

maybe news channel 5 could do an investigate segment on the t$$aa by phil williams, or maybe even send turko over to hermitage to bust down some doors
