My guess is he was drafted because he may be related to a player the Mariners drafted a few years back?
http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/R/Alvin-Rittman.shtml
If you listen to the draft (XM carried it live) you will hear a lot of picks late that mention relationships and other comments concerning their picks. Some great examples: Familiar names dot '08 Draft board
i guess you're right, that what i was thinking because i know they do favors with picks in the late rounds such as Mike Piazza. i guess i just figured they wouldn't do a favor and draft a kid that didn't even play.

Somebody help me out here. I play for Collierville and noticed that a player named Alvin Rittman from Germantown was drafted in the 46th round by Seattle. This surprised me because Germantown's centerfield is Mike Faulkner and has been for the last 2 years and i didn't even kno this Alvin kid was on the team. i checked their website and he was on the roster and was in the stats with 5 plate appearances. i guess my question is how this kid gets drafted when he doesnt even play for his highschool team? especially with players like drew martinez, jacob wilson, and heath hatfield going undrafted

Like we said before it's not how you start the season, it's how you finish. Collierville could not get it done. Collierville had a good season, but now it seems to be for nothing, but they can say "THEY BEAT BARTLETT"
yeah we beat Bartlett. we beat a lot of other good teams too. but being a senior i can certainly tell you that i would tade any win this year to still be playing. and it wasn't for nothing, we had a great year. we just started to cool off at the wrong time as everyone else was heating up. so dont u dare try to take anything away from our team.

glad to see folks defending classless behavior...a classy move on ya'll's part. ha.
a high school kid getting in an umpire's face is unwarranted no matter how poorly the umpiring is during a game. period. end of story.
i agree with ya here. i was neither at the game nor do i know what was or wasnt said. but from reading all the posts it is clear to me that he did approach the umpire and did exchange words. whether he cussed him or just complained it is still un-sportsman like. a player should never try to "show-up" an umpire. leave the complaining to the coaches and fans.

Collierville has won a 14-3 record and beat Bartlett Friday night....

If you were there tonight you already know that Bartlett beat themselves tonight. A lot of errors! This team needs to get it together and play like we all know they are capable of playing. Good Luck to them Saturday with USJ. I hope they Play smart and with confidence to get us back on track.
i'm pretty sure both teams made errors, one of collierville's cost them three runs. collierville also outhit the panthers. but it didn't look like either teams best defensive game but hopefully we can see a rematch at state.
Thompson already in trouble at Ridgeway
in Class 5A & Class 6A
