  1. This game is a true SHOCKER! :thumb:

    ALL WEST TN FINAL!!!!

Two Great teams battling it out for the championship.

I think Melrose has too much talent overall, but its hard to go against Joe Jackson!!!!

I'm pulling for White Station even though I think Melrose will win, but the underdog has taken over in College Basketball this year so anything can happen!!!!

Shocker?!?!?! Everyone knows that the best basketball in the state comes from Memphis and that's been going on for decades!!! In last year's championship my Pharaohs lost (not on their own but due to the striped shirts) to the Spartans. Where have you been at??? I hope those refs don't take this one away from Melrose too! They outplayed them up to this point and don't need to get involved like they did Raleigh-Egypt last year. But, when White Station plays for the title they'll do anything to get them the ring.

Sarcasm! Did you not see the :?:? I have been watching Memphis and West TN ball for years... I already know! You don't need to take what I say so seriously! Everyone else knew I wasn't being serious with the shocker statement.

Oh, well, didn't see that as sarcasm, my bad then dude! You know how some country folks like to deny that we have the best basketball.

  3. Melrose had Adonis and Nate on the bench the entire game. U did see what Nate did to those Softs big when he was in the game. And make no mistake it was not they did not show up. It was nothing they could do. Guards was throwing the ball away as soon as a defender came their way. That was the reason for the 19 - 1 lead. Please!! Jodyjoe u called it correct. People cant come on here and say congrats but try to find some other reason to put the team down. U know what at this point it dont even need another reply. Lets get ready for Bearden.

I see Adonis Thomas only played 8 minutes and took only one shot. What was the reason for that? He didn't get hurt did he?

  4. MEMPHIS /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

    Who wants to go to Memphis. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

    Larger venue w/ smaller crowds. That make sense. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />

You sound ignorant. People would rather come here than Murfreesboro. Theames would be played at the FedEx Forum. Do you know how packed that would be??? /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

  5. Memphis teams have rarely brought many fans. The small teams seem to bring the most fans.

Yeah, I've heard that before and this year I saw it in person. This was my first trip to state to see Coach Adams and Raleigh-Egypt play and it was so quiet in the gym at times during the game. In Memphis this game would have been SOLD OUT!!!!! There has been speculation that the TSSAA is planning on moving the tournament to Memphis because MTSU charges them so much money to hold it there. It only makes sense since Memphis has the largest venue. There shouldn't be too much opposition to that.

  6. Or...Raleigh Egypt vs Craigmont

Yes, this is a big rivalry from a neighborhood stand point but Craigmont has big thoroughly dominated by Raleigh-Egypt over the years and with better talent than they've had in the past three years when they got three controversial wins. They are the ARCH RIVALS and the environment is live but when it's time to play White Station it's whole other type of atmosphere. Craigmont games have been interesting of late because they actually have a coach now.

  7. Great game from an observer who just came to watch. Joe Jackson is a special player. But I was so turned off by the Raleigh fans. They booed the White Station team accepting their trophy and their coach. They were disrespective to those kids who played their hearts out. Maybe there is some bad blood between the schools I don't know about, but these are kids and NEVER should we boo them especially after their accomplishment. Both teams played hard and deserved to be cheered. Congrats White Station and Raleigh Egypt. Shame on you fans!

Umm, since you just an OBSERVER I'm going to let you off the hook. White Station once again didn't deserve another big win! It never seems to fail anytime they get together in a BIG GAME the refs swing their way ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY PLAY THE RALEIGH-EGYPT!!!!!! Of course there is bad blood between us with so many wins stolen away from us the absolutely terrible officiating.

Just so you'll know, it's the biggest rivalry in the city

Yeah, it has been every since January 2000 in the double OT thriller at Raleigh-Egypt when our Pharaohs won 96-90. That was probably still the best game in the series. Scooter had a great game, Herbert "Moo Moo" Evans had an emphatic slam over Kyle Buggs, and we survived 41 big points from Earnest Shelton.

Uhhh, RE vs White Station MIGHT be 2nd biggest rivalry, at best.

    --------------------------------------------------------

THE biggest rivalry easliy belongs to..... Ridgeway vs White Station, hands down!!

Ridgeway and White Station is a great rivalry but it is definitely not the Pharaohs Vs. the Spartans!!!!

  8. Some of these posts make me wonder where you people come from. White Station is THE powerhouse in Tennessee, hands down. They've won half the championships played this decade. They came in confident and handled business. They won't get "too" confident. That's just stupid. They know what it takes to get the job done. They're always at the top and they play the toughest schedule in the State year-in-year-out. They won't be "too" confident, but they will indeed be confident enough, and they'll bring their A-game.

Now, Raleigh-Egypt. They've been to Murfreesboro almost every single year this decade(some in Class AA), but they have no gold balls to show for it. I think Coach Adams has some type of curse on him. But I really believe this is the year they'll break the jinx.

Hey, Firestone, true enought White Station is a powerhouse but they haven't won any rings since Coach Tippet left for ECS and that was the 2003-2004 season. Coach Tippet made that team into what it was. The year after Tippet left, 2004-2005, during J.P. Prince's senior year they were not very good at all. They had got handled by Fairley in the City game. White Station still has a reputation and the refs still give them bogus calls up to this point but Patino is no Tippet.

Raleigh-Egypt is also a powerhouse!!! Coach Adams just hasn't got a good break but when you've won so many City, District, Region, and Sectional titles no one is going to doubt you. Once again, Good Luck Coach Adams!

  9. Well it will DEFF. be a great game that I can't wait to see!! And you're right we (WV) do like to run and gun that's just how we play our best game, so it should be a show down. BUT...If Ware is on and Sharp plays like he did today I just don't see RE comin away with a victory, we just have too many weapons....just my oppinion!:) (I am a lil bias cause David Ware is my son /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> )

It's good to see a father support his son but don't ignore the fact that Memphis produces the best basketball in the state. For Your Information Raleigh-Egypt is a powerhouse! How did you not know that????? /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> Gentry is one of the best point guards in the state and Anthony Jones Jr. is super atheletic and loves to get on the rim!!! So, y'all better be ready. Oh, yeah, I forgot Reggie Fondren is playing again so don't judge them off of one game.

  10. Two players that you may havent heard of but might use this state tourney as their personal showcase will be RE's ANthony Jones and Gentry Hines.

Hey, Terop, why would you think no one has heard A.J. and Gentry? Gentry is 3 star recruit and is known well from AAU and A.J. has came on strong last year. Plus they play for Coach Adams. Just about everyone who follows high school basketball in Tennessee knows who they are. It's highly unlikely that they don't because Raleigh-Egypt is #2 in the State.

  11. Funny you say that because that's exactly what I was saying about Craigmont. But They're good. I mean when you catch two of the best at the beginning of the season, and then you spend much of Jan. and Feb. playing in a District with Bolton and Arlington(the worst team I've seen all season, by far). And some of those district games were WAY too close for me. That's what makes me think like that. Their recent performance can be compared to Manassas. They lost to Bob Jones. And didn't make me feel too good to say that nobody in the area beat em but a team from Alabama beat em. I like to think that Memphis beats everybody else. At least they went to Atlanta and handled competition like Ridgeway did. I hope they can get it done. I don't really like White Station, but don't hate em either.

Side note: Since you say you were at the Craigmont/Manassas game, do u remember that last block Buckner got in overtime? I think a Craigmont player shot a pull-up jumper or a floater. He went up sky-high and wrapped it up, snatched it out of the air with one hand. That was sick. They called goal-tending. I had to agree, no way that was possibly legal /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Umm, Firestone, from what Coach Adams told me Bob Jones High School won State three years in a row!!! That would be a good loss. In another words, you would accept it because they were a very successful team in the past. Plus it was a tournament so there wasn't much time to prepare for them and they still barely lost.

  12. I know what all these teams have done, don't need you to post that. I don't consider JCM a top team, or Kirby for that matter. White Station and Germantown even blew them out. Egypt beat WS and Ridgeway at the beginning of the season. And Both were completely different teams at the end of the year(especially Ridgeway). John David Little from Olive Branch choked letting 3 consecutive passes bobble out of his hands in the post. And they just got handled in their own gym by Provine. Egypt also lost to Craigmont and one of their wins was certainly assisted, and they escaped with the other one. Again, Mason gave the game to Egypt. Didn't say they weren't good, just said not THAT much better. You're a big fan. And i can get wit that. But come on, lay off it a little. I'm not like that with those I support. Cordova was on their behinds until #33 got hurt. Again, Holmes is shaky, and he's probably the reason why they didn't make it to state last year despite that great record, losing AT HOME to a team that Ridgeway beat 4 times. The guy doesn't have it. Plain and simple. Hines makes things happen. I'll admit he takes alot of bad shots and shoots a low percentage but he's more of a playmaker than Holmes. When Hines has the ball in his hands, things happen. That's what counts. When Holmes has it, the only thing that happens is a turnover or stagnated dribbling. With the talent they have, they're offense could be ALOT better. That reflects on the point guard. And Again I'll say, Brady should never touch the floor again. #40 is better than him.

Lol, we criticize Joe Brady a lot but he hustles and gets buckets even though he bobbles/fumbles a lot of good passes to him. The #40 yo refer to is Bobo. I played with that kid before and he is not good at all. He is just a big body that you put in there to get you a couple rebounds and maybe affect shots plus he has five fouls. Brady isn't bad but he could be better if worked on it. He seems to play a little goofy like but he can get you 12 to 16 points. Plus Coach has decided not to switch back to the original line up with AJ at the 4 and Reggie Fondren at the 3. He's sticking with the flow which you can't blame him on.

  13. First of all...Raleigh may not be THAT much better than the top teams but has beaten ALL of them this year.

    Ridgeway 76-65

    W. Station 83-72

    Olive Bran 61-54

    Kirby 87-69

    JCM 70-52

    Liberty 54-35

    Craigmont twice

    Melrose twice

Did I miss any of your TOP teams? Didn't play Central.

Holmes has been the starting PG for last two years. RE record 59-7. Hines cannot play point. Mishandles the ball too much trying to overdo and has an attacker/scorer mentality. Dominates the ball when it is in his hands and that is not PG's role.

Dude, you and I have agreed with each other on Firestone's comments but you missed me with that sentence I quoted you on!!! Gentry is man in the clutch, always has been. Coach Adams wants him with the ball because of his ability to break down defenses, handles, scoring ability, and the knack to draw fouls. Who says you can't score from the point?!?!?! A friend of mine is an AAU coach for 16 and under and he's said over and over again no one has been able to stop Gentry on the isolation.

When will the drawing of teams be done? I want to know the matchups for the state quarterfinals.

  14. I just said that Melrose didn't show up. But in reality, the game was still in doubt until about halfway through the 4th quarter. There was no State contender on the floor in that game on either side. Both teams have played MUCH better this season. But, honestly, other than 3 spectacular dunks by Anthony Jones, I could've taken a nap and seen more excitement. I assume Egypt will surely play better and more focused next week, but in this particular game, they were average at best. That point guard(Holmes) has nerves of noodles. I've seen him multiple times this year. He and Brady might cost them a State title. Hines needs to be handling the ball. I say feed Jones until he's full. He'll carry em to the top.

Now that's true about Holmes. He can get real shaky at times but that's when Coach Adams puts the ball into Gentry's hands.

  15. Pretty much what TraderB said would happen. Melrose came out with NO fire. It looked like two middle school teams playing. Other than Chris Jones and #23, they showed no effort at all. They were sleep-walking, and Raleigh-Egypt could still barely put them away. I couldn't believe those were the two teams from the AAA City Championship. Anthony Jones played with fire. Chris Jones showed heart. Other than that, it was pitiful, on both sides.

Dude, what game were you watching? Raleigh-Egypt had the game in control.

  16. All I know is it was a very lopsided score of 68-45 Raleigh Egypt. Would love to hear some info from someone who was in attendance.

Yeah, this was a great win for Coach Adams! This Sub-State game the last two years was painful losing to Ridgeway in 2007 and White Station in 2008. Raleigh-Egypt went up by about 20-5 in the first quarter and never looked back. The controlled the whole game. SG Anthony Jones Jr. finished with 16 and PG Gentry Hines finished with 11. Gentry threw a nice lob to A.J. with about 1:20 to go that he caught with one hand and put down hard. We'll see how the state tournament draw comes out.

  17. I was at this game, White Station was down 49-27 at the half......well, and then came the Joe Jackson show.............The End! Terrible coaching, this game reminded me of the manassas state tournament championship game last year. White Station will blast Melrose.

Have you seen Melrose play??? On paper they're even better than White Station. Don't get me wrong the 8 AAA Championship will be a good game but Melrose should have enough to beat White Station. Joe Jackson better be completely unstoppable because I don't think they'll have enought post play against Melrose.

  18. Liberty defeated Craigmont 62-46 tonight and controlled the entire game. Liberty led 31-12 at the half holding Craigmont to 2 second quarter points. Tarius Johnson led the 1st half charge by scoring 17 first half points and controlling the boards and the inside game. This was the best Liberty has looked all year as far as executing and capitalizing on Craigmont's mistakes. The Liberty/RE matchup is gonna be a good one Thursday night.

What was the final on the Raleigh-Egypt and Jackson Central-Merry game?

  19. poohman will be ok he is very coach-able and a hard-noised kid. The key to this game is if Reggie Fondren gets back in school this week. I think he is back this week but who knows.

Melrose will be mad because they lost that game to East High. look for Chris Jones to come out in attack mode.

Coach Adams pulled it off last night down by 13 going into the fourth quarter!!! Poohman once again had too many foolish mistakes. He's got settle down and play like he did late in the game. Reggie might be back in school this week but Coach told me he's DONE!!! As in, for the year (90% sure on that one). He told me that on the same day he got arrested. The really need him too!!! He would be another ball handler/offensive threat plus he has great man defense.

Melrose did come out playing very well. Was Chris Jones number 12? Whoever number 12 was playing that great at PG but was knocking down free throws except the one that counted!!! I expect Melrose to be playing for the District 16AAA championship next week and I believe they have a good chance of making it the Region 8AAA championship the week after that.
