  1. Long toss is about as good a thing to strengthen an arm as anything, and intern have more velocity. Through a friend I know the agent of the Tiger's flame-thrower Joel Zumya (however you spell it), but since Joel was 16 he said he has done band work and lots of long toss. He said Zumya can throw a ball around 500 feet, easily out of any major league field. Also technique is major component to throwing hard. A lot of a pitchers velocity can be reached just by mechanics alone. Hey, if thats what a pitcher throwing 105 does...it sure couldn't hurt!

  2. It seems to me that MJ has pretty much been the one of the best, if not the best player at these bigger tournaments. Now I am a huge Tennessee basketball fan, and may be a little bias, but I think MJ would fit great into Bruce Pearl's system up at Rocky Top. Now I don't know if they will give MJ any looks, but when you have a in-state guy like MJ, lightin' it up like he has, surely they will take notice. Everyone has always said his height won't allow him to go anywhere big, same thing they said about Weddle, but obviously MJ can play with the best of them. Where do yall think he could end up going? I know it's early, but hey!...that's what these boards are for right!?

  3. I know at Union City, some of the "idiotic" football coaches have the football players lift the day of baseball games. So these players lift the last period of school, then go play a baseball game. This is one right after the other! No time in between like yall have said about morning and play later at night. I think it is absolutly absurd to have these players lift before a game, and expect them to play to their full potential and have any energy at all! It shows that all Union City schools care about is football and I'll give them basketball too...but besides that, they couldn't give a horses tail about. That's why they will never be as good a team as they have the talent for!

  4. In my opinion, kids could start throwing a curveball when they are around 12 or 13. I only say that because there are ways to grip and throw curveballs that do not hurt the arm, but have the same effect. I remember when Craig Lowrance was in little league, he had a nasty 12-6 curve! He didn't throw the usual duce with the normal grip and twist of the wrist. I wish I could illistrate how to throw the pitch, but Im sure some of you might know what I am talking about. As far as learning pitches such as a cutter or a change up, I totally agree with that. I believe a curve is a great pitch to have in the arsenal, but I think that fastball-change up is the best 1-2 pitches and pitcher can have

  5. QUOTE(JohnDoe @ Mar 13 2007 - 08:53 PM) 826410772[/snapback]well sry..i guess i have to spell it out 4 yall....u can recieve the little school letters that they send to hundreds of kids every year including non-athletes, but u cannot recieve recruiting letters. Just because you get these letters doesnt mean they are interested in you or that you are any good. and i highly doubt that union city has two D-1 prospects.

You must have not seen Speed or the Lowrance kid play then. They both played for the Indiana Yankees 18 and under team this fall, where they went to Jupiter, Florida and played in the BIGGEST tournament in the nation. There were over 600 scouts in attendance. Look up the Fall National Tournament on the Perfect game website to see all the stats...it's unbelievable! But both kids have the talent to play D1...will both of them go? maybe not they will have a chance. Come watch a Union City game buddy and see what you think!

  6. I believe the Speed kid is one of the best if not the best sophamore in the state...and you can receive letters as a sophamore...they can inform you about the school and it's athletic programs, they just can not proceed in recruiting you until June 1st after your junior year. I've also heard he has received letters from Marshall and Virginia. Just watch the kid play if you get a chance...you'll leave knowing why he is getting some letters!

  7. How about those two dunks by Jeremy Simpson and Tony Wilkens! I think they were with in 20 seconds of each other?? maybe sooner than that. All I know is it was impressive to see a 6' foot, and 5'10 players go slam the mess out of it. That got the crowd off their feet!!

  8. UC-5

    Westview-1

Pretty scrimage from Union City considering they havn't had but one practice outside! Everything else has been in their turf building. Lowrance, Sherwood, and Hamlin were the only pitchers that threw.

Sophmore Cameron Sherwood will be the best defensive short-stop to come out of Union City. He backhanded Marki Guy in the hole last year. Atleast UC will have the best field in the state.

Cameron is good...he will more than likely play shortstop with Colton Speed at second. Craig Lowrance is getting moved to the outfield this year because of the lose of all three starters off of last years team. Atleast that's what I've heard. Defense will not be their problem this year...offense could be, they lost 7 seniors! But you can never count these guys out. They have a lot of raw talent!

  10. Union City lost many starters..(7)...but they still have some key players from last years 24-3 team. Some new comers will have to step up to help them. I believe they will win 14A...but come time for state, it will be a tough couple of weeks. They have the talent and coaching to do so however. With Lowrance throwing good and Speed hitting, the rest of the team will fall in behind, and could be trouble for any team.

  11. I'll just say this...Union city doesn't have a player over 6'2! And he rarely plays! Imagine what Sisco could do with some big guy! He turned Xavier Robinson(6'1) into the best big man in the district last year! What other coach knows how to bring out the "big man" in "small men?" Sisco went undefeated in the district this year with an under-sized team, whom the coaches thought would finish 3rd. Game in and game out UC has a game plan that works, and the players carry it out to perfection. If it's all about talent, then Lake County should be undefeated right now...They have the best over-all talent in my opinion. But they go out there and just run around the court. They don't have a plan...So not just anyone could coach and win with union city!

P.S. Think back 2 years ago with Antwan Coby..he was maybe..5'8?...and was an out -standing offensive threat. the Sisco's know what they're doing
