  1. When I look at the wrestlers with the most career wins they seem to be from non traditional wrestling states like Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, etc... which leads to the following question. Would you be better off wrestling 40 or 45 matches in very tough tournaments (Iron Man, Beast of the East, Reno Tournament of Champions, etc...) over wrestling 75+ matches per season against average competition? Dan Gable was quoted as saying it was his job as the coach to get each of his wrestlers beat during the season and that wrestlers learn more from a defeat than a win. Do most states not have a limit on the number of tournaments and dual matches a team is allowed to schedule?

In TN, we are allowed to schedule 18 dates. Only 2 two day tournaments, not including individual region and state. I know from my perspective it's hard to get these enormous records unless the majority of our dates are filled with quad meets and dual tournaments.

  2. exactly what I needed. thanks.

    can anyone top 62 ...??

    quite an amazing season

who did Bo lose to ..?

    b.b.b.

this is an educated guess, but I think it was to Nic Bundy of Hendersonville. Usary beat Nic in the state finals the year before by 1-2 points.

  4. The 39th McGavock Invitational Wrestling will be held December 9th (JV) and December 10th (Varsity). Due to attending other tournaments, it has become necessary to change to a one-day format. NOTE that JV will wrestle on Friday night, Dec. 9th, while VARSITY will wrestle on Saturday. Please, confirm that you are still planning to come to the tournament.

JV: All coaches will need to weigh in the JV wrestlers on Friday morning and send any scratches to Mark Gonyea (email below). There will be no bump-ups. JV is limited to only one wrestler per weight class. Should there be available room, coaches may include an alternate wrestler. Depending on the number of wrestlers, the matches may be run on a 1-2-2 or even 1-1-1 time limit until medal rounds. We want to let as many JV wrestlers get mat time as is possible in the time allotted. The entry fee for JV is $60.

Varsity: Varsity wrestlers will weigh in from 7:00—8:00 A.M.. The matches should begin at 9:00 A.M. and run all day, with time for meals as time permits. The entry fee for Varsity is $150. The five-match rule will be in effect for both Varsity and JV. Please note that due to the one-day nature of the tournament, allowances for taking the ACT exam that morning will not be made.

Friday: JV wrestling will begin at 4:00-4:30 and should be finished at or before 10:00 P.M. Admission is $5 for adults, $1 for children under 12.

Saturday: Varsity weighs in between 7:00 and 8:00 in the morning. Wrestling begins at 9:00 and continues until the medal rounds are concluded. Admission is $8 for adults, $1 for children under 12.

It is absolutely imperative that rosters are sent to Mark Gonyea by Tuesday, December 6th, but no later than noon on Wednesday, December 7th. There can be no changes made after this time for the tournament to run smoothly. Mark’s email is gonyeam@rcschools.net . Coach Gonyea will email you your school’s login and password information so you can enter your wrestlers.

  5. At one point I had found the brackets for their state tournament but can't seem to find them now. Miller was the 1 seed at 145 with a record of i believe 24-1.

As far as results, all I could find was this message board post. Apparently Miller lost in the finals 2-1.

If anyone else can find definitive results please post them.

  6. Region 6 District 10 was settled tonight at Antioch. It came down to a 3 way tie as Overton beat Antioch, McGavock beat Overton, and Antioch beat McGavock. Not sure on the details, but based on the criteria set by the coaches, Overton is District champ with McGavock 2nd. It sucks because Antioch is very solid top to bottom and could have definately made some waves at the Region duals tomorrow.

If you are interested in entering this tournament please contact Coach Coffee.

Note: We are filling the Varsity tournament before the JV tourny. We've had an issue in the past with teams wanting to enter 3-4 guys in one JV weight but not fill the same weight at Varsity. The focus of this tournament is to run a competitive Varsity tourny. It's hard to do that when some weights only have 6-7 guys in the brackets.

  10. I have two observations to make:

First, if you can't find a 103, you aren't likely to find a 106 or a 107, so go figure.

    .

I'm a coach at the largest school in the state and we couldnt get a 103. We did, however have 3 kids wrestling 112/119 that could easily have made 106. My 112 was weighing 105-106 everyday after practice towards the end of the season. He was a little heavy at weight certifications so 103 was just barely out of reach.

I think a 107 weight class would benifit the sport. As it's already been said, the majority of 103s are underclassmen who never weigh that little again after a growth spurt.
