  1. Thank you DBTeepee. "Mac" is a family man who supports all sports and prefers his ball players to be multi sport athletes.

He coached 2 state championship football teams in NC and had 10 wrestlers who won individual state wrestling titles as well.

Me thinks NOONESFOOL might just know a little bit about coaching a highly successful wrestling program /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

All you need to know is the history of Greene County. Late 70's NAFTA-That's North American Free Trade Agreement. This guaranteed all farms in Greevenille would be bankrupt in 5 years. 1980's Bankruptsy Court moved from Knoxville to Greeneville. Early 90's - Anouncement of developement of 4 lane from Tri-Cities Airport to Dollywood...convieniently going thru the middle of Greene County farmland which by this time was convieniently owned by the bankruptsy courts. Federal Government convieninetly purchased land through the middle of Greene County to build proposed highway. City of Newport all of a sudden becomes premium realestate. Late 90's early 2000, all of a sudden the City of Greeneville is filthy rich. Hmmm, wonder where all that money came from? Well it wasn't from the price of beef. Comprende' Espanoil?

    Trust me. He will play.

This has to be one of the dumbest posts I've ever read on this board. Where exactly did your lesson in Greene County history come from? Without addressing each point of error, lets look at the cornerstone of your argument. I'm gonna guess that you are 10 or 11 years old if your sense of history places NAFTA in the 70's. You were only 2 decades off!!! The NAFTA agreement was signed December 1993, and went into effect 1/1/94.

Since this throws your series of events off, would you like to rewrite it? Do you even know what NAFTA is? I might buy your argument if you implied that it hurt North American Phillips or MECO, but how in the world did free trade bankrupt our farms in Greene County? We were primarly Burley based(hence Burley Stadium), and I'm not sure that Canada or Mexico wrecked our Burley industry.

    Barb pegged you correctly.....mo-ron

  3. I'm seriously lol'ing at free speech in a privately owned forum.

Just let it die, this horse has been beaten to death and then some.

Come on, he's 18 years old and an adult. Why the kid gloves? I don't want to see name-calling and the like, but honest discussion is why we frequent these forums. The original post seemed harmless enough. I'm a bit curious why many on here(friends) are so worried about things that get stated on a silly message board. In light of all that he has put himself through, he doesn't seem to care about what people think of him, or he wouldn't be repeatedly pulling these stunts. He's 18 and looking at much bigger issues in his life that a few postings on a message board. Undoubtedly, he has faced many troubles in recent years. However, he has been given opportunity after opportunity to help himself.

As Greeneville fans, and residents of this community, we have a bit of a biased view. If he were in any other big school, we'd look at the history and question how it had gotten this far. Reading Mr. Hollowell's comments on this subject in another thread was very enlightening(thank you for giving us the background). I'm glad the administration tried to help him along the way, but I'm also glad to hear that Coach McCurry tried to avoid this before this season started.

For those who say that the previous and/or current school administrations failed him or caused this, you are ridiculous. We all have to step up and take responsibility for our actions. He's lucky that a few scrapes and the loss of H.S. football is all that this has cost him(so far).

  4. Strangely enough, I had this thread started on Monday morning before 9:00am. I merely linked the story to the local radio station news website. There was no accompanying derogatory text or anything resembling inflammatory. Within a couple of hours, the post/topic was gone before it ever got started. A few hours later, it was finally reported on the Greeneville/Crockett thread.

I think a moderator jumped the gun by deleting a link to a news article. I emailed to inquire why it was deleted, or what rule I had violated. They responded that they would investigate it's removal and let me know what happened. It's been over 2 days, and they are still silent. Oh well.

  5. Just heard this this morning. Not sure if it's the GHS QB, but the age would sure seem to indicate the possibility. For his sake, I hope it's not true. Can anyone verify?

An 18-year-old Greeneville man was charged with D.U.I. after a motorcycle wreck Saturday Night on East Church Street. Jordan Greenway of Colonial Circle lost control of a 2005 Kawasaki Ninja in the "S" curves near Academy Street at just after 8:30pm.

The vehicle struck a curb causing Greenway to lay the bike down.

Greenway was taken to Takoma Hospital by E.M.S. He was held overnight for observation.

A hospital spokesperson said this morning that he was no longer a patient there.

A court hearing on the D.U.I. charge is scheduled for today.

Lieutenant Mike Crum investigated for the Police Department.

  6. The black outlined numbers and letters look great and make it stand out.

I'm probably just old-fashioned, but there seems to be a trend in recent years of teams that, traditionally, have no black in their uniforms adding black at every opportunity. For example, Duke University has used black jerseys, the Boston Celtics have added black to some of their uniforms, and the basketball Vols sneak in a bit of black as well.

Each of the teams I've listed above have traditionally been 2 color teams(Duke-blue/white, Celtics-green/white, and Vols-orange/white). Recent years have seen GHS add black to the basketball and the football jerseys, and I would submit that black is not a traditional color of the school. You acn make the argument that it's needed in the endzone, but I've got to believe the green and white could have worked.

  7. Field and surroundings look great. I do have one big complaint, though. Why has the color black been creeping into the uniforms during the past few years, and now the end-zone lettering?

I don't recall black on the uniforms in the 70's or 80's. I hated seeing it on the basketball uniforms, and now the solid black lettering in the end zones.

Maybe someone in the know can enlighten me.

  8. ....snipped....... Well, how many D1 QB's are going to go through Greeneville? ....................snipped.......

I think it's a bit premature to call him a D-1 QB at this point. He was a good quarterback in a bad conference. I love East Tennessee football, but face it, other than Maryville, we've consistently had our tail handed to us at the 4A and 5A levels. You have to go back a long way to find D1 talent at QB for Greeneville.

DeBusk could have played D1, in my opinion. Before him, Andy Moon signed with Alabama, but he was not given consideration as a QB. He was extremely talented, and if I remember correctly, was seeing time as a WR before falling to injury. Cody Baugh put up some gaudy numbers that erased many of Frankie's records, but was only mediocre at best for Tusculum.

Greenway is a good athlete, but to call him a D1 quarterback at this stage is a pipe dream. For anyone that watched Sullivan South's win over the Devils in the playoffs last year, they got to see a D1 quarterback. I was impressed at Curt Phillips' arm and body strength, and speed combined with his good size.

  9. If an individual can hit someone with the ferocity that the video showed and the individual that threw the punch is not mad or angry in any way, that in and of itself would indicate severe behavorial and/or emotional problems.

I'm assuming that the video is making the rounds? How badly was the kid injured?

  10. I know I couldn't reply to that so I came to this topic.

Whoever emailed the details to the newspaper had everything twisted. There was no verbal disagreement, just boys saying they are big and bad and then someone being challenged. Nobody was mad at anybody. Its amazing how word of mouth can get details misplaced and twisted to the way that sounds worse or best to their needs.

Where you there during this incident? If so, what's the deal with this statement from the video?

"the youth who subsequently was punched, allegedly told the youth who delivered the punch "If you'll just stop this, I'll give you your best shot at me."

What's the story? Are you saying that the reporter watched the video, but was mistaken about the events that transpired?

  11. I actually posted this last week in the baseball and football forums. I didn't mention the name, but I suspected that Greenway was the one.

Here was the thread/topic http://tennessee.coacht.com/boards/index.p...howtopic=171458 That post has the link to the newspaper article and the text from the article. Apparently, the school tried to keep it quiet, but someone emailed the video to the newspaper.

The big question will be whether or not Greenway is admitted back into Greeneville High after being sent to the alternative school. Since there were so many cell phones involved, I can't believe the video isn't on you tube.

  12. I posted this in the baseball forum, but felt that it could impact the football team much more than baseball.

Sounds like Greeneville will be losing one of their multi-sport athletes. Can't remember the suspension policy, but if he is sent to alternative school for the remainder of this semester plus the first semester next year, that would mean no football.

Looking at the GHS baseball box scores of the before incident and after incident, you could nake an educated guess that this could be a major blow if the player happens to be a returning quarterback.

A Greeneville High School football and baseball player is facing disorderly conduct charges in Juvenile Court following a Friday, April 11, incident in which he was photographed and videoed punching a fellow student in the face at the school.

Neither the Greeneville School System, nor the Greeneville Police Department, had previously made public information about the incident.

But after a copy of a video clip of the incident, apparently made by another student, was sent electronically to The Greeneville Sun this week, the newspaper contacted Greeneville Police Chief Terry Cannon and Dr. Lyle Ailshie, director of Greeneville Schools for comment.

Chief Cannon said a charge had been placed against the student athlete who punched a fellow student, but referred all other questions to Dr. Ailshie.

During a telephone interview this morning, Dr. Ailshie declined to release the names of the male student who delivered the punch or the student who suffered a broken jaw as a result of being struck.

"They're minors and they have their entire lives ahead of them," Dr. Ailshie said, in declining to release the youths' names.

"I promise you that I'm as upset about this as anyone, but I'm not going to publish their names," said the director of city schools.

He said the youth who threw the punch has been charged in Juvenile Court only with disorderly conduct because the family of the injured youth had declined to push for a more serious charge.

Alishie said he personally felt a more serious charge was warranted, but was told by police that such a charge could not be supported without the victim's family's support.

    Incident Described

Asked to describe the incident, Dr. Alishie said it took place before a weightlifting class at the GHS field house on the afternoon of Friday, April 11, after the two students, both of whom were members of the GHS football team, had engaged in a verbal disagreement.

At some point during the dispute, Dr. Ailshie said, the youth who subsequently was punched, allegedly told the youth who delivered the punch "If you'll just stop this, I'll give you your best shot at me."

A video clip of the incident that was sent to the newspaper shows the two boys wearing T-shirts and shorts standing inside a semi-circle of similarly dressed students.

As the video clip begins, the boy who became the victim of the punch is shown standing with his arms resting by his sides, while the boy who is about to throw the punch is shown moving from side to side as if preparing to deliver a punch.

    Video Of The Assault

Several students in the video's background are shown pointing cellular telephones (apparently featuring cameras) at the two youths.

Suddenly, the youth who had been shifting from side to side, strides forward and delivers what appears to be a hard punch to the left side of the other youth's face.

The youth on the receiving end of the punch is shown being staggered by the blow and another student moves forward in an apparent attempt to keep him from falling as the video clip ends.

This morning, Dr. Ailshie said both students exercised "poor judgment" in the incident.

No action has been taken against the youth who was punched, he said.

    Sent To Alternative School

Ailshie said the youth who delivered the blow has been sent to the Greeneville School System's alternative school for the balance of the current school year in addition to facing the disorderly conduct charge in Juvenile Court.

Asked what the youth's status is expected to be for the 2008-09 school year, Dr. Ailshie said his status for the next school year remains undecided.

Ailshie said school officials plan to ask Juvenile Judge Kenneth Bailey Jr. to "take firm action" and order the youth who delivered the punch to undergo counseling "and any other type of help this young man may need" in addition to whatever other punishment the court imposes.

Dr. Ailshie said the amount of progress the charged youth makes in the coming months will be a major factor in determining if he will be allowed to return to either GHS or the alternative school next year.

Ailshie described the incident as "embarrassing" for the school system, saying it detracts from "the hundreds of good things our school system is doing."

"It just kills you when these things happen," Dr. Ailshie said.

The director of Greeneville's School Syustem also said school officials are still exploring whether to take action against the students who made video clips of the incident.

"We're trying to work through who did what," Dr. Ailshie said.

  14. jjones where do u go to listen to the game on wjcw?

In the upper right corner there is a link to "LISTEN LIVE". You must register, but it's relatively painless.

I didn't have any luck trying it with Firefox, so I had to use Internet Explorer.

    Good luck.

The great news is you can listen to Bill Meade without Paul Overbay.

Seeing that you neither started this thread, nor have contributed to it, maybe you should not concern yourself with it. And, just as the other poster mentioned, I'd almost swear that Elizabethton is in Carter County. At least when I've been there, I see lots of vehicles with CARTER on their license plates. Elvin Brown was one of them. Leslie Brunn could have been the other. Brown had a great career at UT that was cut short by shoplifting, if I recall correctly. I believe that Brunn played at ETSU. Not sure how these Virgin Islanders ended up in Carter County?

Next year they will play AAA because they will be classified as a AAA school. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I realize that they can't play up just for the tournament. I was questioning why they didn't play up a level for the entire year in AAA. Many schools do this every year for football and/or basketball.

I thought that I had heard that they would be reclassified next year. Unless things have changed, I think they could have requested to play "up" a level.

  19. QUOTE(nebuntyn @ Mar 19 2007 - 05:51 PM) 826417783[/snapback]That AAA championship was a joke. Liberty would have blasted both of those teams.

Perhaps, but maybe not. Maybe they should have played AAA this year rather than AA. They were, without a doubt, the best AA team in the state. Many teams play up a level, not sure why Liberty felt the need to play AA.

  20. you got to remember that Football is King is this part of the Country, and they need to refurnish the weightroom

Not sure of your basis for making that statement about football being "king"? If you are talking about UT, I'd agree. If you are talking upper East Tennessee, I challenge you to look at the last 20 years and see where our success has been.

girls basketball & boys basketball. There are a handful of state championships in the past 20 years.

What has upper East Tennessee done in football in the past 20 years? If you go as far west as Jefferson County, their heyday was the late 80's. Science Hill hasn't been a force in years. D-B flames out early in playoffs.

As far as that goes, if football was king, doncha think that ETSU could have supported a team?

  21. why would they take the athletic director off the committe that would be stupid. i think you were fed a line of bs my friend but who knows it might be true

I agree completely. The only reason that I could imagine this to possibly be true is because of the "political" nature of things in small towns such as Greeneville. If you have any doubts of this, think back to the factions when decisions were being made to build a new GHS or remodel the old one.

If the rumor is true, it's unfortunate. Maybe someone could shed some light on this?

  22. Are they even close on this hire?

As we inch ever closer to April, spring practice is getting within about 60 days or so, and without even naming finalists (at least publically), they're running thin on time.

Was one of the committee members lost Frankie Debusk?

I think his addition could potentially raise some eyebrows at the NCAA level.

Actually the 2 names I heard that were removed were 2 people that should be on the committee without question: GHS Principal Jerry Ayers, GHS Athletic Director Randy Richards.

Just a rumor, maybe completely false.
