  1. Wasn't trying to justify the qulaity, only the quantity.

Hitting 28 threes in two games is a nice feat, though the 9 against Happy Valley is more impressive to me than the 19 against a struggling  West Greene team.  My guess is many of those were wide-open uncontested looks.

  2. 28 last two games actually (19 vs West Greene and 9 vs HV)

Has to be a tough loss for the Lady Warriors to take especially with the Lady Cyclones coming up next. Will be interesting to see if they can get motivated properly. Unicoi Co on the other hand should be flying high with lots of confidence now and Harness should be back soon. Unicoi Co must be shooting lights out from 3 pt range. 27 last 2 games

  3. Judging by your asinine comments you are one of many people associated with SH who automatically thinks they are better than any other school just because the name on the jersey and the fact that yall are a rich kid school that has lots of money and don't even try to say yall don't point being crapping out money for a new football, basketball, and complete new wing of the school. Also yes Crockett has 5 feeder schools compared to ur 1 middle school that has 1300 which is the size of Crockett and SH has 2600 kids from a town of 60000 which means numerous amounts of athletes and u saying that them having the feeder schools should mean they should compete is a complete idiotic remark, I mean heck yall should be winning every athletic title in the conference. If all the other schools had the resources yall did they would be right up there with the god school of Science Hill. Point being Crockett is a county school having to compete with SH who has 3 times the resources to win games and doesn't get to choose from all the athletes that JC has, next time pick a better argument before u and all the rich SH fans can base the classless game that was played the other night, and yall wonder why every school hates yall , just another case of we think we are better than everybody else because we have more money than everybody else and our ego gets to the gym 10 minutes before we do.

If you are going to attack topper's logic of why Crockett should be more competitive, then perhaps you should make a better, more logical argument on why they can't beat Science Hill. If the size of Science Hill's population and budget is what makes them so successful, then that means that a AAA school like Crockett should be able dominate schools that are half their size. How have Crockett's girls fared this year against their smaller school competition? Losing to Unaka by 30 and 20- Getting beat by University High (twice) and Greenback. So I'm not sure that you can say that Science Hill wins these games by 94 points because of their size.

Let's be honest - if high shools in Tennessee can't win in a conference (established by the state on basis of enrollment and location) for an extended period of time - the thing that needs to be under scrutiny is that school's athletic program. If you want to know why your teams aren't competitive, take a look at the decisions and decision makers of your school. It is not the job of opposing coaches to make a team "seem competitive in a box score." It's the job of your coaches and athletic personnel to put people in place that will make your team better.

  4. Science Hill was no where near the better team. the Lady cats were down 13 points and worked their way to come back and cut it to 1 but fell short. They missed a lot of shots but they played a heck of a ballgame, everyone knows that. Emily Williams played an amazing game! Great Season Lady Cats!

Generally, if a team plays a "heck of a ballgame," and has a star play "an amazing game," yet they still lose, they've played against a better team.

  5. That's a good one chill, but I think Unicoi beats stone last year if hensley doesn't get hurt b4 halftime. Think that would be an interesting matchup again this year. Unicoi is better defensively this year for sure. Don't know much about alcoa? Know they are good. East has a good experienced team with 7 Sr's and 7 jr's on their roster. Could be good matchups?

    Region Finals:

    Unicoi - 68

    East - 60

    Alcoa - 79

    Stone - 65

    Sub-State:

    Alcoa - 74

    East - 58

    Unicoi - 62

    Stone - 59

  6. yea well Unicoi is the designated sub state choker they can't win it so idk why this year is any different than the last 6 years considering Unicoi has had way better teams than this years and I can't see east winning their sub state game either both Alcoa and Stone are just better.

Not sure how you can classify losing to teams like Fulton and Austin-East as "choking" considering the talent those teams have had over the past decade. Last year against Stone was not a "choke," either. Losing your best defender and rebounder in the 2nd quarter (when you have a double digit lead) would be hard for any team at that stage of the postseason.

    P.S.- PUNCTUATION, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

  7. And you are saying Shelton and McCurry left for another reason. So the question becomes, if not the coach, then why are the players leaving? I have a suspicion, but will not say because I may be wrong. I am sure the players and parents know the problem, but are keeping quiet about it.

Have to agree with dare here. I really think that both instances were inevitable, for different reasons, but neither have to do with the coaching. I believe the only surprising thing about Ivory's decision was that it came during the season and not after or before.

  8. We have gotten the season started and all of our teams have played between 3 and 6 games. I take the records from the coacht.com website and it would help me if someone would keep each team's results updated and accurate. I have seen every team at least twice, except Hampton, which I will see Friday. Here is how I rank them now:

    1. Elizabethton (4-0), look good and have beaten Morristown West and Tennessee High, host Hampton Friday

    2. Unicoi Co. (4-0), playing faster and scoring more, host Hampton Tuesday

    3. Hampton (4-2), losses to S. Greene and Tennessee High, beat Cherokee, huge week coming up as the Lady Dogs play Unicoi Co. and Elizabethton

    4. Cloudland (5-1), lost to Sullivan South, lots of potential

    5. Happy Valley (2-1), beat South and Crockett, crushed by Science Hill, will be ok

    6. Unaka (3-3), losses are to S. Greene, Unicoi Co., and Jefferson County, Wilson and Cox are playing well, team is really small and struggling defensively

    7. Johnson Co. (0-5), it is a building process, they are scrappy but struggle offensively

Feel free to rank them and add your perspective and comments. It is going to be a fun season and as many as four of these teams could make a deep post season run.

    1. Betsy: clear cut #1 at this point I believe. Not just beating good teams, but dominating them.

    2. Hampton: their confidence seems high right now, and they are playing well. This week will tell a lot.

    3. Unicoi: I love em, but am a realist. As season progresses and they become confortable in new system, I believe they will move up into the #2 spot. Could be this week, could be next month, but not there yet.

    4. Cloudland: well coached team that plays extremely hard.

    5. Unaka: Lacking depth. Getting the Eliz transfre cleared soon would do wonders for them. Need one more girl to step up and take some pressure off of Cox and Wilson. Seems to be a good deal of talent. Gotta play hard EVERY possession.

    6. Happy Valley: Will get better with every game. Goulds is doing a tremendous job.

    7. Johnson County: Love Coach Whit. He will change the attitude and demeanor of that program and instill pride and togetherness. Talent just isn't there yet. Whit needs to get involved in their feeder program and get them on his page.

It was a fun and eventful week and I believe that our 7 have all represented our area well. Hoping for a fun, competitive, injury-free season.

  9. How did the games at Happy Valley turn out today? Anyone have any information?

Must have posted about the same time. What about the other Tri-County teams?

    Saw three games: Unicoi 81-Unaka 51 Crockett 55-Johnson Co 30 Eliz 64-Mo West 45

Scoreboard shows that Hampton beat Cherokee 61-60 and Cloudland beat Boone 47-40. No result posted for HV.

  10. Please do not generalize or stereotype all Unicoi County fans because of the bantering, whining, and accusations of only a few. Unicoi County, like most other places, has its share of "fans" who believe in their hearts that the only way a Blue Devil team in any sport could possibly lose is if the opponents cheat or if the referees hate us. The bad part is that those kinds of people in UC just happen to enjoy CoachT. Rest assured that the majority of us just enjoy sports and love seeing our teams be successful and have fun. I saw both UC and Betsy play at Happy Valley today, and was impressed with both teams. Unicoi shot lights out early and never really let Unaka get past that 6 or 8 point hump in the 3rd quarter (though the Rangers did miss some easy ones in that stretch that could have cut it to 4 or 5 and made the game very interesting.) Thought Unicoi doesn't have tons of depth, our top 8 are fairly solid while Unaka had to depend very heavily on 3 or 4 good players and some role players. Unicoi's had just enough depth to wear the Rangers down and pull away late. Didn't really like our team pressing in the last two minutes while up by 26-28 points, but it was a good win for our girls. Elizabethton looked a little sloppy in the first half, but they play soooo hard and buy into their style of play unbelievably well. I think the Elizabethton/UC matchups will be more competitive than they were last year and that UC will pull out one or two of them. The big question is which one or two - Regular Season or Tournament Time? It's a long season and only time will tell. Wishing both teams much success in the coming months.

  11. yes i happened to be there that night....think the score was 29-28 vs. unicoi....positive it was a 1 point game and was early in year. i actually had a referee tell me later in the year about how improved hunter's girls were from the first of the year. was very impressed with the effort and execution of hunter boys the game i saw. only sore spot of the nite was the unaka high school junior basketball player trying to pick a fight with erwin 8th grade player after the game. i dont know kenneth personally other than thru coaching and some "old man" pickup leagues but he has had success and im sure that he will break back through at the high school level at some point. this could be it, if he applies, or it could be on down the road but i'm sure it'll happen. word is that a lot of local jobs, boys and girls, could be opening up soon. lots of opportunities on the horizon for local coaches looking to make a move.

  12. I'd say it's highly unlikely that all of the above mentioned coaches will even apply. And I would say it is highly likely many names not on that list will apply, especially from outside the system.

Once it opens and we see who actually does throw their names in the hat, it may be a little easier to speculate. Although I do think that it will not be even close to clear until it is officially announced.

  14. I saw the heckling comment also. I was at the game and am not real sure that they got their facts straight. The usual referee heckling was going on of course, but not once did I hear anyone from the stands say or do anything that would be considered "heckling" to a Cumberland player. The gym wasn't very full and you could hear everything, and I never heard anything said to a player, only the referees. And the Cumberland fans, though low in number, were giving their fair share to the referees, too. I think that Mr. Tester may have been a ways off base with that comment in the Press.

  16. So that's one championship in how many years... 32 I believe... I'll give you that one... but the state was down that year... really down... I mean compare Rusty Chambers and co. to the last 10 years of Class A champs... they'd get beat by everyone of them... But okay... they won it so... congrats...

Is your school not in Region 1 as well? I mean, if regions 1 and 2 are so bad, you should love the fact that your Trojans only have to beat the "lottery playing, nicotine addicted rednecks" of regions 1 and 2 in order to get to state.
