  1. Officiating over the last couple of years has gotten worse. Most of the good older officials are having trouble keeping up with the speed of the game. I am seeing a lot of older officials who are continually out of position. You can't be fat and old and be a decent official.

Many of the younger officials are complete power tripping wanna be's. I have seen many in the last year or two refuse to talk to coaches at all. A lot of them are obviously not athletic, and I have seen way too many who call walks on anything that looks athletic, while not noticing things like the pivot foot, and the fact that many kids don't use one.

Still see officials who don't really understand simple rules like over/back, and the 3 second rule. Saw a 3 second call a week or so ago where a kid drove to the basket, shot, rebounded like 4 times. He got called for 3 seconds.....

As for being paid pretty well, well yeah they are. I don't see many people spending 25-30 in gas to drive, but if they do then ok Most make $125-$150 for a pair of games. Minus your theoretical $25 for gas and you come up with 75-100 for 3 hours worth of work. So $25-33/hour. Not bad, most people would take that.

There are only 10 rules in the book! Can you please show me where "over the back" is a rule? Know what you're talking about before you speak please !

  2. I don't know what to predict in this conference. I believe that Jefferson Co. is a bit overrated, actually way overrated. I was at the Seymour/Cherokee game and just by watching warm ups I thought Cherokee's big girls would be too much for us but Seymour held their own. Cherokee was having major problems breaking the press all night and thats what cost them. Seymour controls their destiny from here out with home games against Sevier Co. and away games against Mo. East, Cherokee, and Cocke Co. Going on the road is always tough so I'm sure Cherokee and Cocke Co. will be looking for redemption as will Mo. East who lost pretty handily at Seymour a few weeks back. I would like to say Seymour will run the show from here on out but you never know which team will show up on any given night. It's really a toss up.

I have no dog in the IMAC, but from what I've seen Jeff County is slightly the best team to me. All teams in IMAC are streaky. Outside South Doyle, anyone could win the tournament. Definitely should be interesting!!!

  3. The proof is that they didn't win the state last year??? So does that mean that all the district championships West has won over the last several years proves that they just can't be successful without a Taylor Hall?? Just curious...How many times has West beaten your team over the last 15 years?? By the way, if you run accross any Taylor Halls tell them West would love to have them.

Hate to tell ya, but Sidney Goins is what made that team go until her injury!!!!!

  4. I agree with Farragut & Powell. I know Gibbs returns their strong pitching, and in AA should go far into the State Tourney this year. Seymour is always good, but remember they have jumped to AAA this year, could be a factor.

One left off is Sevier Co. This should be one of the better SC Teams in school history and should make some noise in the IMAC.

Broke school record in wins last year, has one of the best hitters in the area in Zach Flynn and will have 5 senior starters that have all played since they were Freshman. We have already scrimmaged Catholic & Bearden beating both. We did not face eithers ace, but we faced their best hitters & everyone else on their pitching staff.

I am pretty sure Catholic & Bearden would agree with me on this.

OK I AM PRETTY SURE THE ONLY REASON WHY SC BEAT BEARDEN AND CATHOLIC IS BECAUSE BOTH TEAMS PITCHED A DIFFERENT PICTCHER EVERY INNING IF THEY DIDNT SC WOULD NOT HAVE BEATIN THEM,NOT EVEN CLOSE. BEARDEN AND CATHOLIC HAVE PRETTY SOLID CLUBS THIS YEAR AND WE WILL SEE WHAT HAPPENS IN THE REG. SEASON!

Every team can't pitch their ace every outing...so they gotta pitch someone....As I see it, a win is a win, no matter who pitched...SC won and that's that ...now if you want to argue who would win a series, then that would be another debate....it's hard to debate history...and with SC winning the game...I call that history...Not a hater just a realist....make no excuses and move on!!!

  5. i agree with fisherman this game i was shocked at the calls but it didnt cost the game............. but i have to say those 3 dont know hand checks please look at photos on tricitessports.com trust me the one hand or may i say arm check in 1 photo was a no call...........

No dog in this fight, just a fan of the district which Carter plays in. I came to the game to see how Lester Wilson would handle the pressure and the bottom line is Carter was the better team and won, as they should have. The district Carter plays in night in and night out prepared them for this game and the crowd that came along with it. It was actually quite refreshing to me to see that the hand check wasn't called all night long...the crew working the game let them play and protected the shooters, and left out all of the ticky tack calls, just as they should have in a game of this magnitude. Hats off to Sullivan East, not only for the effort and class they showed, but also for the passion of their fans. It was probably one of the best, if not the best environments I have ever seen in a high school basketball game. The only downfall to this game is that somebody had to lose. Congratulations and good luck to Carter, and to Sullivan East...man what a great season.

My great sidekick, sorry to say I missed you as I was in attendence as well. Great atmosphere, great game. Sullivan East had there chance to win but Carter prevailed........Officials called was needed and let the players decide the game....good game but the atmpsphere made it great....Until next time Mr. Nessler, I will see you at March Madness!!!!!!

  6. The officiating has been terrible this year, it was also terrible at last years state tournament. I saw the Mcneese guy from TSSAA at the tournament last year....I believe he is the supervisor over the officiating and I told him what I thought and He made excuses. I am tired of the same excuse, and the excuse is this......officiating is a tough job.....we all have tough jobs sometimes, but that's no excuse to be poor at it. There are consequences for doing a poor job in the real world e.g. you get fired. I understand there are mistakes, but the mistakes I have seen this year are inexcusable, e.g. travel without the ball, calling fouls on the wrong player, not paying attention 1n1 free throw situation. In my opinion there is only two ways this happens 1.) The official doesn't know the game 2.) The official is being biased or cheating and there is no room for either. Am I the only one seeing this? We want the players to have sportmanship and integrity, but we don't hold the officials to the same standards.

The only person the officials have to please with their job...is their supervisors.....Everyone wants touch fouls called when their team has the ball and wants to "let em play" when they are on defense...Who's to say they aren't doing what their supervisors have asked them to do..There is more technicalities in officiating than what the "general" fan believes.....It is your opinion that, but at the end of the day, the officials do not need to please you but their respective boss.....

Will the real Dick Vitale please stand up? You missed the whole point...Do you need a book with pictures so that you will understand.....Some calls are not even close... not touch fouls...did you read my post? We want the players to have integrity and sportsmanship, and they are penalized if they don't....Why are the officials held to different standards.....So basically, it should be a dictatorship. You must be one of the officials making these preposterous calls or you work for the TSSAA...either way your post was very shallow and special ed like, with no explanation.

I am no official, but however, I have in fact read enough posts on coacht to know, that usually when someone complains about the officiating, their team has lost....All I am say is, your standards are differents from any other "joe". So therefore your assumption isn't always right. Whether it be about officiating or me!!! I just see you being upset because the officials aren't held to YOUR standard.....

  8. And best of luck to both South Greene and Greeneville! We from East Tenn have to stick together! We will be pulling for you as well. It has been great competition from you over the years. LET'S GO!!!!!!!

Hoopla, you speak of S.Greene and Greeneville.....Let's not forget about North Greene as well.....Good luck to all east Tn teams......

  9. The topic is Fulton v.s. Gatlinburg. You never referenced Pigeon Forge...and I still have no clue as to what you are talking about.

I'd like to see that too... with fair officiating. Those Smoky mountain refs seem to let them play too physical and make too many inconsistent calls. Which ever court they play on...I just hope we can keep the GP women happy. We had sailors blushing listening to some of the screaming F-bombs and other descriptive adjectives. Coach Wright himself asked the district tournament coordinators if they would have some of the local churches volunteer to provide child care for some of the tiny sports fans that had their verbal horizons broadened. In this day and age, children are going to hear that language at school, on the TV, or even at hilltop family reunions... but to hear it from mad mamas and visiting head coaches is a little shocking... even for adults.

Was the game not played in Fulton? If so my friend, that would be Knox South Association and not Smoky mountain.....

I'm referring to their next match up which will be at Pigeon Forge. The 1st game was very rough with poor officiating. If you look at posts from other schools.... many fans feel the same way about the mountain top refs.

  11. For these teams to play this intense game in spite of the crappy officiating is a testament to the talent and discipline of both the players and coaching staff. Congratulations on your big win.

Well well well, Barb, surely you aren't on here complaining about officiating... :thumb::thumb: ...I just thought you complained about them on the basketball board.....Was hoping Greeneville would win...but you ragging the officials is better than anything to me at this point.... :angry:B)

  12. I like how GreenEville is not even in this conference any longer yet some IMAC'ers can't refrain from dissing and slamming them...pathetic really...miss us THAT MUCH, huh? Don't let them know on the BRAC thread but here's a little heads up...nobody has seen Greeneville at their best yet this year. Their point guard has been out with an INJURY (yes, Dick I said it!) but is back...this will add a whole new dynamic allowing Neas (who has done a super job filling in) to move to the wing some allowing Kelly to play some post when needed. She has done a really good job at the wing, surprising some with a very accurate 3 but her smooth moves and strong posting ability need to be utilized. Fender has come a LONG way and Story is pretty much a diamond in the rough that is really starting to shine. Shipley is still deadly accurate with the 3 and I noticed a lttle versatility with the mid-range jumper too. Looking forward to the out of conference match-up with the Lady Red later in the season! Yes, the Lady Devils look to have a good year - better than most suppose and that's just like we like it...underestimated and under the radar...pretty much like our football team :thumb: -- remember it's not how you start but how you FINISH!

More excuses...LOL....you will always say that we haven't seen the best yet.....said it last year and I'll go on a limb that you'll say it next year too!!!!

    Howdy Barb I missed you!!!

  13. Because they both were wearing TSSAA patches on there shirts and were using there affiliation in response to every thing that was said to them.

I'm callin' BS on this.....just because the patch is on the shirt doesn't mean there is any affiliation.....So I guess Benard Childress called his asign officers and told him to have refs at this tournament....don't think so pal..

Because they both were wearing TSSAA patches on there shirts and were using there affiliation in response to every thing that was said to them.

I've seen guys with GA and NC patches working tournaments in Tn...so does that mean they have any affiliation to something in this state?

  14. I am a 40+ mother who played extensive basketball. I do not remember the refs when I played wanting to be a part of the game. However I am now the mother of two teenage boys who play year round. They have played since they were 5. They both love the game and yet the reffing seems to decline every year. I have taught them both to be respectful to to the refs and let the coach handle any problems. This last year has been a rough one. I have seen numerous games where the refs should be announced with the teams. They make points of making sure everyone knows they are there.

In my own way I had finally had it a few weeks ago at a local AAU tournament. It was late on a Sunday afternoon. Everyone had played numerous games since Friday evening. It was the last game and the championship game. It was clear from the start that it would be a good game. However, the refs were tired and were calling very little. The game starting getting out of hand. (At a tournament in Nashville the same kind of thing happened and my son ended up with a broken arm because no one was blowing the whistle. So I was obviously concerned.) I did sit with my mouth shut while the ref turned around numerous times and yelled at the crowd in the stands. He also gave three technicals to the bench of our team. One was because while sitting on the bench, the asst. coach yelled foul. At the end of the game my son had a black eye and a bite mark on his arm. ( I didn't know about this until after we got to the car). But our team had seven fouls in the whole game and the other team had one. I was appalled by the lack of control and wanted to either call or write the TSSAA. I walked over to the scorers table and very calmly asked the name of the referees. All heck broke out. One ref got in my face, gave me his first name and accused me of threatening him. The other ref called me a name and said I was not worth there time. They then asked me my name which I gave them, the whole thing. I then walked away was but told later of the things that were said.

I have never threatened anyone and it was my first time even deciding something needed to be said.

But after years of observing I am amazed at how different every game is called. You can't teach a child, youth, anyone what the rules are when the referees call there own game. I also believe that if a child is going to play all weekend long, the parents are giving up there whole weekend, spending lots of money, then no matter how tired a referee is at the end of the tournament it is professional if you are wearing that shirt to call the game. You are getting paid. I do believe there needs to be more oversight on referees. I am much more appreciative of a ref who when being yelled at in the stands just becomes deaf. That is a professional. Unfortunately I don't see too many of those.

I understand your concern for your boys safety, but these summer tournaments have nothing to do with TSSAA....so why would you even go to the scorer's table and ask for their names.....Wasted time in attempting to do this.....

  15. My post is about the winner of the Miss Basketball, your talking about team championships! Your talking apples and oranges podge! And I'll prove it:

Take Kayla from Oliver Springs, a Miss Basketball finalist the past two years, Oliver Springs has not won the state in girls basketball, but, Kayla's sophomore year they played for the title, (I think she should have won that year) but she was a sophomore and I understand that it's usually a senior or junior award. So her junior year Oliver Springs makes it back to the state tourny, and her senior year they make it to the state tourny again, only to lose to the eventual state champs. All said and done three straight years making it to the boro, and over 100 wins in her career. I think her resume speaks for it's self, as I said, this is a individual award not a team award!

And no, I don't think it says something about the basketball in my area, but rather about the voting being done by central Tennessee folks. (media and TSSAA officials)

You need to take your own advice, this isn't a team award. Just becasue you make it to the boro 3 years doesn't mean squat in the award. 100 wins doesn't mean squat...........you talk about individuallity but at the same time you post nothing but team accomplishments!!!!!! /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" /> /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />

  16. Goose,

You and I know that an East Tennessee player in any sport, is behind the eight ball in regards to any award from the TSSAA. Congrats to Laken.

How do you figure? What about Faith Dupree? Is Webb no longer located in Knoxville? Is Knoxville no longer located in East Tn? Last I checked Glory Johnson won it the two previous years and she played at Webb........Your statement is ridiculous......

  17. PTS is Evans out and Billy D in? You are the man to know this, fill us in............ /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" /> /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />

  18. Thats a good one 1hoopLAfan. What coach doesn't whine in this conference? The East coach acts pyscho on the sideline yelling and grabbing players, the Jeff coach goes crazy and red faced, the Greenville coach cries up and down the sideline and baseline and was also threw out of a game, the West coach throws his hands up and cries when things dont go his way and throws his blazer on the floor and nobody cries more than the girls coach at Cherokee. Did not see Cockes coach enough to see what he cries about but did see him lead a cheer of defense during the middle of a game.

Back to the boys, still no word on the Jeff boys yet. Still think Coach Scot deserves another shot interm or not.

    /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />

  19. If Greeneville has a sectional game at home with any of those teams they will be more than capable of winning. I can't believe you lumped Carter and Stone in with A-E and Fulton. Let's call the Carter state berth what it is...a fluke. They caught A-E on an off-night, Johnson County knocked Grainger out in the first round of the regional with two starters out with the flu and a third who only managed two minutes because of it AND McBee having to play center, which is definitely not his natural position...then Union rallied to beat Unicoi in the 1-AA title game. Clearly a lot went Carter's way to get them into the state. They should be extremely grateful to Johnson County and Union County.

Come on Kev, Carter is on fire right now.....don't be bitter because your beloved Grizzlies didn't make it to the boro...give'em credit where credit is due........don't be a hater because they punched their ticket and your team got punched....Carter beat some pretty dang good teams to get where they are right now.......it's not who had the best season but who's gets hot at the right time.......no more excuses...
