What is wrong with the site, I can't pull up the MS brackets??? It gives an error every time. I can veiw the other age groups, just not the MS.........

Opinions on this usually vary according to which side of the call you are on at that particular time. Locked hands. It's almost as if some of the assistant referees just want to "get in the game" when wrestling is on the mat. Watch their eyes. They lock on to the waist of the bottom wrestler and seem to almost tremble with anticipation of getting to make the call. Anything, a milli-second finger brush, an eye-blink finger overlap in a scramble is called with the enthusiasm of someone just wanting to "get in the game" and make a call. It's one that they can make without being asked by the head ref. Before you attack, and preach on about the purity of the sport and following rules, that is not what we're talking about here. If a wrestler touches his hands and receives any benefit whatsoever, hit him! We're talking about an accidental hand brush in a full scramble where no advantage is gained. It literally happens in the blink of an eye, and should not cost a kid a match or State place.
I liken it to the a referee who is so concerned with calling the "higher profile" no-control pin that he fails to look at the defensive wrestlers back and the fact that he's giving up back points, and misses the count. It's just a little too much enthusiasm to "get in the game" and make the big call. -
Mr. Hardcr, you will be upset with my comments, but that certain 130 match you are referring to, Mr. Maxwell pinned himself several times. Luckily the refs did not call it, keeping the match going. Thank the refs for that. Yes calls were inconsistent, but we get what we get.
Couldn't disagree more... If they would have saw the pin, I'm sure they would have called it! Just hated to see that the score was not moving. I was just glad he placed given all the drama from this year. Nick was glad to just place in that weight class! I too saw the the scramble to get to the side and not expose his back while holding the other kid down as well.... Oh well, you win some and you lose some.... It was a good match!

If you got beat then go home. Or maybe we should have got a worse place in the bracket... I know after the bad ref calling in a couple of matches, the kid who lost in the medal rounds would have loved to wrestled your kid... How many do you want them to lose? All kids in the bracket know how many they can lose. Good luck to you and yours next year and or in life if they are a senior.... We had fun watching Nick wrestle for the last 13 years! Now its time to start HS with the first of two little brothers........ uhhhhhggggg.... They better count back points by the time state comes for them.......!!!

Saw some great matches come down to the wire! What a weekend! How do you guys and gals feel the refs did? I saw some good and bad calls........ Some times the second ref seemed to be security watch rather than a second set of eyes on the match. (Backpoint man.... backpoints...) Oh well, congrats to CLEVELAND! YOU GUYS ROCK! "130 fifth and sixth was a back breaker." Nick still loves you guys though!!!!

Wow, what award is next? Just award first place and everyone else is going to throw the award away so why bother. You guys are amazing to not want the award to be supported. Out of all the kids that wrestled hard at these big tourneys, they deserve the award if it exists...! Maybe poor sportsmanship says to just ignore the effort or maybe you guys that are wanting the award dropped because you threw yours away. If the award exists then award it! It is a great memory for these kids to look back on and remember the day that they entertained the refs... and spectators!!! This is all, just my opinion.

To give my opinion on your orginal question....
I think the best match award is slowly going away. I haven't seen one at any tournament that Greeneville has attended this year. In my really humble opinion, I have seen too many losers throw the award away or act like a baby and I am no longer spending GHS money on the award. The GIT gives an outstanding wrestlers award for the upper weights and lower weights instead of a best match.
Just my opinion but there it is.
What!!! I see it as a honor to receive an award like this. Even if you lost, I can't see someone throwing the award away. It shows recognition of a great match. This is a shame!!! I heard that the refs voted for it and went to get the award but the school did not order one. There were several matches that were deserving of the award.!!!!

Best wrestler was voted on by the coaches but they have always done a "Best Match"......? The tourney was great and run very well; Mostly Pigeon Forge and Gibbs in the finals. Congrats to Gibbs and Pigeon Forge for there outstanding showing at Regions! Good luck to everyone who is going to the big show at the horse barn!!! What a year so far.......
