I just noticed that there are only 8 regions for 2009. So I assume next year that each region will be getting 4 wrestlers in at every weight class for the state tournament. Has anyone heard if this is the case?
-
Michael Bishop is 19-0 and is the sixth seed. I think this just shows how deep alot of the weight classes are. If they are good enough they will make it through.
-
Thanks, i noticed a ricker at 215, is that jasons brother? and what happened to wilson at 119?
He is getting his weight under control but will be at 119 this weekend at the Fandetti Brawl.

Howerton from South Carolina also placed third last year in the state of SC so there should be some pretty good matches at that weight class. Bishop will be going 145 after Christmas so this may be the only time these two wrestle this year if Ridenour does not also go down. These two have wrestled before in AAU with Kole winning the last match and Ridnour winning the previous match.
-
Sullivan East will have all but one weight class filled after Christmas. We are minus four starters from last year with two wrestlers out for the year with season ending ailments. Both wrestlers were two of our better wrestlers too. One of those wrestlers is battling cancer right now. He is going to have surgery tomorrow and could use everyone's prayers.
-
Sullivan East 54 West Greene 24
Sullivan East 49 Chuckey Doak 24
-
I talked with Kole today and he told me he would be wrestling 45 this year. /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />
Just because Kole says he will be wrestling 145 that does not mean he will be. He has all ready cut nearly 20 pounds and I am not sure he will be able to make it to 145 and be healthy.
-
Also, Bishop from Sullivan East will be at 152.

We shall see... we shall see....
Remember, although folks around here seem to only look at team stats, it is individual success that gets you to state.
By the way, did you forget that Boone sent four to state last year? How many did the others send?
East sent 3 including 2 Regional Champions and all underclassmen plus they will have a full line-up this year. Crockett had a regional champ who is also coming back plus their coaches always have their kids ready to wrestle. Morristown West always has some great wrestlers. TN High will have a full team this year with close to thirty wrestlers in their room. The point here is that you are not helping your team out one bit and now all the teams in the region know who your good wrestlers are and will be prepared. Most coaches on here would never admit if they thought they had the best team in the region, it is much easier too surprise than to have a bull's eye on your back. Plus just because these guys look good in your wrestling room it doesn't mean they would look good in anyone else's room.
-
They may be good this year but not enough to overtake SH, GHS, and DB. It is hard to compete with the numbers and experience that some of the other teams have. Should be a good year for the Region because I am sure Sullivan East, TN High, Crockett, and all the other region one teams will be much improved over last year. The region put a ton of underclassmen into the state tournament and this will only help the region get better this year. I hope Boone has a great season but do not be disappointed if you still cannot get past the top three in Region 1.
-
As I said they have the best shot after last year's performances. They both stepped up when it counted and ended up 2nd and 3rd in the state. Usary may have had a couple of bad matches but if you saw him at the state tournament he was wrestling on a different level. He also looked like a big 135 at the state tournament. As for Bishop he has not been beat by anyone in Region 1 for 2 years now. If he is so one dimensional then how has he continued to have the success that he has had. Last year at state he lost to Konz and then came back in dominating fashion to defeat several ranked wrestlers in a row. He is anything but one dimensional and if he is then not many wrestlers have figured it out yet. I do not doubt that King will have a great year and I hope he does. However, to get on here and belittle two other Region 1 wrestlers because you want to prove that your former teammate has the best shot, is comical. However, I still believe Region 1 is going to have a great year.
-
Bishop from Sullivan East will wrestle at 152 this year from what I am told.
-
I forgot about Matt King. He could definately be in contention this year. Do you know of any new wrestlers that may turn some heads this year?
-
I believe that Usary and Bishop have the best shot at state titles this year. I also believe that one of the Mann boys might have a good shot at a title also. I have heard that he has been training very hard and some of our wrestlers who saw him at a camp this summer were very impressed. There may be a few others who can place at the state tournament this year. The regional matches should be pretty exciting this year and alot of our wrestlers who made the state tournament will have another year of wrestling under their belts.
-
Just from looking at the first bit of seeding they have done, they do not even know how to seed. If you have five wrestlers that should be seeded then put them in the right darn place. How can they screw up? I have only looked at 119 and 125 and none of my wrestlers should be seeded but I feel sorry for the wrestlers that are seeded and get stuck wrestling a seeded wrestler in the first round. I am hoping they just screwed up.

103 Goldstein SH
112 King G
119 Simpson G or Wilson SE
125 Mann DB
130 Nease DC
135 Usary SH
140 Willett G
145 Bishop SE
152 ?
160 Brimer G
171 Arrington G
189 ?
215 Preston DB
285 Fleming DB
This is my best guess.

Anyone have a list of teams competing in the Fandetti this weekend?
-
Penalties and turnovers killed EHS. They had a turnover at the East 4 yard line and then fumbled with around 2 minutes left in the game. I think the penalties hurt worse because they got some dumb personnel fouls that killed their momentum.
East is mostly a one man team ( their QB). If a team could pass I do not think East would ever stop them.
# 10 for EHS showed some good things and when he gets some more playing time he could turn out to be a good QB.
You must be nuts. East had 450 yards of offense. Gaby(169), Looney(125), and Crowder(50) yards rushing. You guys were lucky to even be in the game. If East had not turned over the ball the score would have truly reflected the true dominance East had over EHS. The best player EHS had on the field was #7.

As someone who wrestled in Virginia and now coaches in Tennessee I fully support the A/AA state individual tournament. Virginia currently has three divisions within the state A, AA, and AAA. The sport has grown dramatically within the state and the competition level has grown dramatically. I know wrestlers that have won A, AA, and AAA state championships and none of them stick an asterisks beside their state titles because someone is better than them at another division. If the goal is to expand the sport of wrestling then allowing the small schools to compete with other small schools gives those wrestlers the best opportunity to compete. A school with 800 kids does not often have the same resources and pool of athletes to compete with a school that has 2200 kids. Two of the most dominant schools in Virginia are Christiansburg and Grundy and both of those schools compete at the AA level. Christiansburg just won their ninth straight state title at the AA level and no one puts then down for winning at that level. By creating a new division this would allow new schools within Tennessee to become the Bradley's and Baylor's at their level. Developing and expanding wrestling within the state should be the main goal not stroking someone's ego by allowing them to say they are the only state champion at their weight class.
