  1. Sounds like something dirty out of bill laimbeer book. haha. very dirty

Bill Laimbeer was a genius. The Laimbeer/Mahorn "legdrop" (where you body up on the offensive player from behind, and let him try to push you back in, and pressure, pressure, pressure. . . . then DROP the leg out from him. . . . . . yesssir. Pure genius. :thumb: :thumb:

  2. Im a Viking.

Back home I was what you would call a "one and done". That being: During a Two Day Tryout, they saw enough of me on the first day to know I wasnt going to make the team.

Id love to compare stories with yall, but we had 7 players on the roster my Sr year that all played a sport in college. Since this thread has turned away from the game (rightfully so, cause it is over), we can have a little fun:

    My Sr Year:

PG - (6'2")Loyola Marymount then transferred to Pepperdine??? (now a sports agent and has a kid that is one of the top Sophomore in the state of MI)

SG - (6'1")Track Scholly to Indiana. NCAA High Jump Champ. Once watched him hurdle Antioine Jobert (u of Mich) in a state quarterfinal game. Pulled his legs up, jumped over top of him and slammed. BOTH benches went nuts on that one

    C- (6'9")U of Minnesota

    F - (6'5")Small Div 1 school in Texas (football)

f -(6'8")Small Div 1 School in Cali. (football)

Up on Varsity the next year - Twins. I think they were both at EMU One played basketball in college, the other played football. HOWEVER, Both played in the NBA for about a couple years each.

I was a couple years (or so) behind a fella named Earvin. The boys had the season to themselves back then. (the girls played in the fall) Typical night was JV game starts at 6. Varsity starts 1/2 hour after. When Earvin was in school, if you were not in the gym by 5pm, you didnt have a seat. Freakishly good basketball back then.

STORY TIME IS OVER ( bored here at work, had to have a little fun)

I LOVE the basketball played here in the Upper Cumberland. These kids play hard, they play from the heart, and they play great basketball.

Thanks for letting me enjoy yalls kids for the last 4 years. This has been a lot of fun. :thumb: :thumb:

  3. King21 has taken on more responsibilities. He's now on his best behavior. Good luck to your team also except for the two you have with HOGEYE. :thumb:

We exchanged emails earlier this season. Im a big King21 fan. Wish him the very best.

But if one of you see him in the next few days, ask him if he got those pics of cDunn "hop skipping and jumping" through the lane at Michigan State. I sent them to him a month or so ago.

  4. I agree with most of what you are saying. I did not see anything that warrant the T from the coach.I was watching D-up and all he was doing was enjoying a good BB game just as the Cannon County fans were. I think D-up was getting on Coach Rigsby pretty good but I can assure everyone Coach Rigsby can handle it. Cannon County are playing their best ball since coming back from Flordia and at the best time. Any time you can win a road game espcally at Upperman you have done something. Cannon County played good defence kept turnovers down and I don't think their is a team in the district that can out run us. Bad Ref's are something that you have got to play around. I also think we are going to knock off another Upper Cumberland team Monday nite. Hats off to Cannon County and Upperman for another nite of great Basketball!

Im with you. Very good job by both team. Someone had to lose. Good luck to all. I really enjoy watching all of these kids play.

(I got the full scoop on the MrCoachMcWilliams T. It is laughable now. But that is because it is done and doesnt matter anymore.

Catch yall farther down the line, and we'll see how the next one plays out!!

  5. where to start:

FIRST AND FOREMOST: Great game by CCHS. They had to play their tails off to hold of a very good comback attempt by the Bees. Both teams battled. Great effort on both sides, one team made more shots and won. Congrats to Cannon Co on an hard earned win. Very good job.

Second: Taking nothing away from the CCHS win. That was not the best effort by the officials. PART OF THE GAME, SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO PLAY OVER THAT STUFF. But not the greatest officiating last night. Couple quick notes on this subject: The MrCoachMcWilliams Technical was a crap call. I dont care what happened with the coach on the other end. Doesnt matter to me what he was doing. Bobby didnt do enough to warrant a T. ALSO, when a ref blows the whistle, and then asks the ref on the other end what the call should be. . . . thats not a good call. Great to communicate, but that ref had no idea what was happening all night. The game was too fast for that ref. Could not handle it.

EDIT: just because the number of calls each way were equal, does not mean it was a well officiated game. Just means that the numbers were equal both ways. Says nothing to the quality of officiating.

Third: Sending security up to silence a fan was a bush league move by the refs. If you cant take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. I was sitting right behind ol "D-up" and he said NOTHING out of line all game. He was on the refs, but they get paid well. It is part of the game. Just as "bad calls" are part of the game that the kids have to play over, the fans are part of the game that the refs need to just deal with. Do you job right and the fans will never notice you. And, in the words if ol D-Up himself, "If you dont want to stink, DON'T STINK" If someone had made threats, or personal attacks on the refs, that would have been a different story. The only thing coming from that section of the stands were cheering for the Home team, and getting on the refs for their work "professionally" never anything personal. I was there the whole night. It was all clean.

Lastly: Unfortunately, UHS boys just fell to 1-1 when my kid sings the National Anthem. sigh.

BOTTOM LINE: Great showing by the CCHS team and fans. Im certain there will be a rematch down the road, and Im also certain it will be a good one!! Good luck the rest of the way to both teams.

  6. I hope I am wrong about #s 2 and 3. Pretty sure you are dead-on about Maya and Carter, they wont see alot of floor time! McWilliams does a pretty good job of knowing how far she can push the refs, but LA seems to get under her skin so I will say she will get a T!! Forgot to add Gator will try to drown out the hog-eye chants with the intercom!! :roflol:

yeah, That would have been fun, but that gig has been passed on to someone else!!

I was sitting up top with my oldest, (shes a Sr.) and my youngest (he's 2) and we were just enjoying a great game.

I am never going to sit here and try to out coach MrsCoachMcWilliam. I have too much respect for what she does, and what she has done. But when they start throwing the ball around late in the game, killing the clock, it just kills me. I looked at lilGB with 2:32 left on the clock and said "HogEye is not going to quit scoring. If we dont start putting the ball in the basket this game is gone"

    and there it went.

Both sides played their tails off. Love this matchup, anytime, any year.

  7. Your Right I do not know the whole story, thank you for filling in the blanks, It was brought to my attention about what the Johnson girl may have done and I do admire the girls for taking a stand, I stand to be corrected. Apparently the punishment given was possibly the avenue for her to exit the team, not sure. I can only imagine the girls that left have vested many years in their game and just truly hate to see them feel that had to leave, I also think about the girls that chose to stay and where they stand in all this, I really hate it all the way around and only wish that there could be a equal medium in all this. Nobody is perfect and everyone deserves chances to get it right. What ever the coach chose to do I have to think that she prayed about it and did what she thought was right in this sort of circumstance. But again when I posted my post I had just bits and pieces to this situation, and I really hate to see girls give up something they have worked so very hard for, the Sr. year is suppose to be a great year to remember and sure this one will be remembered just hope there are no regrets. Forgive me

you are absolutely right, this is just a bad thing all around.

I feel for the kids that are left, the kids that are gone, and the coaches that have to deal with all of the problems.

I certainly did not intend to bash anyone when I started this thread, but I didnt want the kids left to hang in the wind either. I think the kids the left had good reason. I wish it hadn't went the way it did for them, but they took a big stand and I think they will be better people in the long run because of it.

I also didnt intend to sound like I was being harsh towards you. It is very obvious that you care about these kids, and that is always a good thing.

I hope all turns out for the best for all of these girls.

    Go Cavs.

  8. I can hardly believe that the Jr. and Sr. left as they did, coach runs a good ship and for whatever Johnson did I am sure it was dealt with. Thing is every child situation I am sure is different, consequences might be set differently accordingly. I bet the coach handled it in a way that was suited for the situation. It is jsut unfortunate that parents allowed the other team members QUIT. If I had to guess and I am guessing whatever happened had nothing to do with the girls that quit. In the girls future this sort of behavior is not going to get them thru their adult life. I totally realize this is not any of my business but it saddens me to see a program get effected in this way, although the girls left behind will rise above and basically become better players it is just such a poor example set by the girls that left. Reminds me of the idea if things don't go their way in the future they will bail out. If I were them I would before time passes rethink decision and get back on board with the program. Kids that give up sports can suddenly loose all their discipline and make some really bad choices in the future that can effect them worse on down the line. Good luck to Coach and asst. :popcorneater::popcorneater:

I can assure you that you do not know the whole story, or I believe that your post would have a different tone to it.

Sometimes in life, you have to stand for what you believe is right. I feel bad for those left behind also. The kids that are left on this team now are good kids, and are playing their tails off. I wish them all the very best. They will learn and grow as players and people, and they will be better for it.

But Im not looking down on the ones that took a stand either. I know the things they took a stand for, and sometimes that just has to be done. I hope it does not scare them off from taking a stand for what it right in the future. This was not about spoiled kids. It was not about meddling parents. It was about taking a stand for what you feel is right.

There are a lot of people here that know that I am completely against quitting. I dont like transfers for more playing time. I dont like transfers for better coaching. I dont like quitting because things dont go your way. But standing up for what is right is something to be proud of. Even if it doesnt work out for the best. And keep in mind, they didnt just go in to the coaches office and say "we quit". They took a stand to try to get things corrected for the betterment of the team and the program. And they were basically told that their values did not matter.

If they were my kids, I would have been proud of them. Sad for them, but proud.

    :popcorneater:

  9. Honest, I'm not playing dumb here. They came to Lawrence Co. last Saturday and played and all I know is what I heard is that 4 starters are gone for the year. My question is, what happened? Did they quit or were they asked to leave? In either case, why? Cookeville has a good program and it was not the kind of game we are used to having with them.

I really do not want to say too much, but basically the four kids quit over a dispute with the coach. (it is in the Herald Citizen so I will go ahead and say. . . ) the dispute centered around the punishment of another player for "whatever reason".

A 5th player has since left the team for unspecified reasons.

I didnt like the way it was reported in the H-C, as it seemed to put it as a bunch of kids and parents on a vendetta. That was not the case.

Not trying to throw anyone under the bus here, but I think the kids (those who left, and those who are still playing) were unfairly thrown under the bus.

I wish them all well, and I hope that Jimbo is right. Go CAVS!

  10. rabbitranch, cut me some slack, ant ole atall jest been here awhile./

did you play back in the days of the 2 platoon system, where you different players on the offensive and defensive ends?? My daughter would have loved that!! She is a defensive gem. (but she did get her first Triple double the other night in the jr pro league. hahahaha. 12 points, 15 rebounds, 12 steals.)

anyways, had a big night in the jr pro gym last night so I didnt get a chance to put my hypothetical bracket together. I will work on it very soon.

  11.

There would be a lot of money lost in the early rounds. Region tournament would only be one game and no substate. That is quite a few games being lost. I agree with elimination of substate, but I think top two in district should go. How can you not seed district tournament? Does the regular season mean nothing? Why not take top 16 to state after region. Play sweet 16 & elite 8 Friday sat and final 4 and championship next fri sat. Play boys and girls same weekend.

go ahead and seed the District games. But absolutely, under no circumstance should a team move on after a loss. You lose in the districts, and you are done. Otherwise the district round is then meaningless. If you make it a one and done you will automatically double the attendance at most of these games. And it will mostly be STUDENTS that will care more. Parents are going to be there anyways. Students have too many other things to do, why would they go to a game if they know they are going to get a chance to go to a more important game later on in the tourney. I have heard this line of thinking from far too many students. They dont care about the Districts because they know their team will be there in the Regionals.

And if you let 2 through the Districts then you still have to deal with the "did so-and-so lose to get a better draw in the regional" problem.

Lose and go home. I promise that it would make a better tourney. And there would be plenty of interest.

Dont have time here at work, but later tonight I will go through the brackets and see what this gives us with the current set up.

  12. congrats to THE LADY BLUE DEVILS on another championship and a great season. No losses to any single a school and one loss to aa and two losses to aaa teams in Tennessee. Two losses to two top rated teams in the nation in a prestigeous tourney in Florida. Defense wins championships and thats what JC hung their hats on holding their opponents to 31 points a game in state tourney and scoring 49 points a game. Congrats to all the teams that made it to the final 8.

Congrats to JC. Great bunch of kids that are very deserving!!! :thumb::thumb:
